Netflix is giving A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder fans something to be thankful for this holiday season!

Nearly three months after making its debut on Aug. 1, 2024, Netlfix has announced A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder has been renewed for a second season which will premiere globally (sans a few territories) on Netflix as well as on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer in the UK and Ireland. While we don’t yet have a premiere date, Netflix did confirm the co-production will begin in 2025 and that the second season will consist of six episodes, which is in line with the show’s first season.

Tired of long turnaround times for your favorite shows? Have no fear, because “Nobody Wants This” is about to go back into production.

While attending an FYC event at Netflix’s Tudum Theater in Hollywood, the stars of the hit rom-com, Adam Brody and Kristen Bell, spoke to Variety about what’s ahead for their rabbi and gentile podcaster in love.

“We’re shooting in February and hopefully they’ll have it out by September next year,” said Brody of Season 2.

Bell also went into detail about the new creative team brought in to work with creator Erin Foster now that the first season’s executive producer, Steven Levitan, will no longer take an active role.

“We’ve added some delicious people to the mix, [new showrunners] Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan, which is very exciting,” Bell said. “Nothing has been completely decided yet, but the writers have been in it for about a month.

Adam Brody and Kristen Bell weren’t expecting “Nobody Wants This,” their Netflix comedy series about the unlikely romance between a recently single rabbi (Brody) and a non-Jewish sex podcast host (Bell), to become a cultural juggernaut.

“We are in a tense moment of massive upheaval, and there doesn’t seem to be many romantic comedies, period,” Brody tells me when asked why he thinks the Netflix show has resonated.

“It feels like we have the field to ourselves for a moment.” Bell says. “There was a ton of really great, intense, hardcore television that ‘Breaking Bad’ inspired — rough-and-tumble watches — and something lovely in the rom-com space hadn’t been felt by the masses in a while.”

I caught up with Brody and Bell at a recent “Nobody Wants This” FYC event at Netflix’s Tudum Theater in Hollywood.

You really didn’t think this show would be such a big hit?...

The third season premiere of The Lincoln Lawyer moved the show to the top of the streaming docket.

The Netflix drama based on Michael Connelly’s novels recorded 1.64 billion viewing minutes for the week of Oct. 14-20 (season three premiered Oct. 17), according to Nielsen’s streaming ratings. That’s the third best weekly tally in the show’s history, behind season one’s second week in May 2022 and the debut of the back half of season two in August 2023.

The Lincoln Lawyer pushed the previous week’s No. 1 show, Love Is Blind, down one spot to second overall. The Netflix dating show had 1.21 billion minutes of viewing for the week. Outer Banks (1.1 billion) was the only other title to reach a billion minutes in the United States, though Bob’s Burgers (945 million) came close.

Baby Reindeer Credit – Netflix

Baby Reindeer is a psychological dark thriller comedy-drama series created by Richard Gadd. Based on the autobiographical one-man show of the same name by Gadd, the Netflix series follows a stand-up comedian who is forced to face his deeply buried trauma after a female fan begins stalking him.

The flirtatious banter between Joanne (Kristen Bell) and Noah (Adam Brody) during Ashley’s (Sherry Cola) dinner party in episode one of Nobody Wants This immediately sets the tone for the will-they-won’t-they romance that ensues between the agnostic podcaster and the hot rabbi over the 10-episode Netflix series. It turns out a key piece of what made that scene so pleasing to audiences was completely unscripted.

“When Adam went to open the bottle of wine, we discovered in real time that Adam does not know how to open a bottle of wine,” series creator Erin Foster joked at a Netflix FYC panel in Los Angeles on Sunday.

“If I was a better actor, I would have learned how to open a bottle of wine before we shot it,” Brody chimed in before Foster praised his and Bell’s ability to capitalize on the moment.

The season four premiere of Outer Banks brought the Netflix show back onto the streaming charts — but with only half a season released this time, it fell well short of its last premiere.

The YA drama delivered 1.19 billion minutes of viewing for the week of Oct. 7-13 (season four debuted Oct. 10), good for second place overall in Nielsen’s streaming rankings. By comparison, season three’s opening week in February 2023 — which featured the entire season released at once — drew 3.15 billion minutes of watch time.

The half-season release (part two premiered Thursday) for Outer Banks undoubtedly played a part in the lower viewing time total. Season four of Emily in Paris similarly had a sizable decline with a half-season premiere in August (but season three of Bridgerton in May did not).

Netflix’s dating show Love Is Blind led the Oct. 7-13 charts with 1.23 billion minutes of viewing; no other show crossed the 1 billion mark.

We just wrote about how difficult it can be to standardize video performance across platforms and streaming services. Netflix infamously once counted a user watching a TV show or movie for only two minutes as a “view,” and though it’s since moved away from that measurement, the memory remains as an example of how streaming services can set their own engagement metrics based on arbitrary definitions that have no cross-platform correlation.

Nielsen does standardize things somewhat, offering TV, streaming, and YouTube analytics based on watch hours and # of users who tune in. But, as Variety points out, because Netflix has so many subscribers, when companies like Nielsen judge its performance based on how many people watch a show, that figure tends to dwarf other streamers, and makes their own viewership accomplishments look pithy.

After the series debuted as the No. 4 most-watched Netflix TV show with 5.6 million views from its Oct. 24 premiere through Oct. 27, “Beauty in Black” got a significant viewership boost in its second week, logging 8.7 million views during the week of Oct. 28.

Viewership for “Beauty in Black” outpaced “Territory,” which took the No. 2 spot on the TV list with 6.3 million views, as well as the Season 2 debut of “The Diplomat,” which scored 5.6 million views in the four-day interval between its Oct. 31 premiere and Nov. 3. Likewise, “This Is the Zodiac Speaking” took the No. 4 spot on the list with 5.5 million views this week while “The Lincoln Lawyer” Season...

After debuting as Netflix’s fourth-most-watched series in its first four days of availability, Tyler Perry’s “Beauty in Black” has risen to the top of the streamer’s TV chart for Oct. 28 to Nov. 3, hitting 8.7 million views in its first full week of streaming.

That’s a 55% increase from the 5.6 million views it achieved on last week’s Netflix Top 10, when it came behind “The Lincoln Lawyer” Season 3, “This Is the Zodiac Speaking” and “Territory.” During the Oct. 28-Nov. 3 viewing window, those titles fell further down the chart: “Territory” took second place, “This Is the Zodiac Speaking” took fourth, both in their first full weeks of availability, and “The Lincoln Lawyer” landed in fifth place in its second full week.

The No. 3 title was “The Diplomat,” which returned with its second season and hit 5.6 million views in its first four days of streaming.

“Beauty in Black,” Tyler Perry’s newest Netflix project, was the second-most-watched streaming original in the U.S. during the week of Oct. 25-31, per Luminate’s weekly viewership rankings. The series hit 1.2 billion minutes watched in its first full week of availability, landing only behind “The Lincoln Lawyer” Season 3, which took first place for the second week in a row with 1.4 billion minutes watched.

“Territory,” another Netflix title, debuted in third place with 890.1 million minutes watched in its first week of availability. It was followed by Season 2 of “Tulsa King,” which has been on the chart for weeks, this time boosted by the release of its seventh episode to achieve 555.8 million minutes watched on Paramount+. Like in previous weeks, the rollout of “Tulsa King” Season 2 continued to bring viewers to Season 1, which was the No. 10 title with 264.9 million minutes watched Oct. 25-31.

In the streaming landscape, it’s been virtually impossible to get an apples-to-apples read on the relative popularity of TV shows and movies.

Netflix, of course, releases its own rankings based on total views, while Nielsen’s measures viewership in the U.S. across multiple streamers. But because of Netflix’s sheer size — it counted more than 282 million subscribers as of the end of Q3 — it tends to dominate the viewership figures tallied by Nielsen.

So what if streaming viewership were weighted based on the size of each platform? That’s the idea behind a new ranking developed by consulting company Owl & Co. For the month of October (Sept. 27-Oct. 24), the firm ranked original series based on Luminate’s Streaming Viewership data, which covers original and library shows and movies in the U.S. and is based on a panel of 2.5 million homes. Netflix’s rom-com series Nobody Wants This attracted more viewing in its second week, moving up one spot to second overall in Nielsen’s weekly streaming charts.

The series starring Kristen Bell and Adam Brody drew 1.21 billion minutes of watch time for the week of Sept. 30-Oct. 6, a 16 percent improvement on its premiere week. It also moved up one spot in the overall rankings, as the prior week’s second-place title, Inside Out 2, dropped by 50 percent to a still strong 908 million minutes of viewing on Disney+.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story finished first overall for the third consecutive week with 1.41 billion minutes of viewing, down about 41 percent week to week. Netflix’s dating show Love Is Blind returned to the charts with a billion-minute week; its seventh season premiered on Oct. 2.

Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power debuted its season two finale on Oct.

The Nobody Wants This creator recently revealed to the show’s star that she had a five-episode arc on his Fox teen soap The O.C. when she “was trying to be an actress,” asking if he remembered her.

The legal drama approximately tripled the viewership of the next-most-watched streaming original series in the U.S., which was “Love Is Blind” Season 7. Don’t Move had a monster premiere weekend on Netflix, raking in 20.2M views in the just few days following its October 25 debut.

That put it at the top of the English-language films list for the week of October 21 to 27. Anna Kendrick’s directorial debut Woman of the Hour remained in second place for another week, though viewership rose to 13.2M views (up from just under 10M the week prior).

True crime has been eating up most of Netflix’s Top 10 as of late, with Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story holding onto seventh place on the English TV list with another 3.3M views. The streamer’s documentary The Menendez Brothers, which features new interviews with the brothers, took eighth place, also with 3.3M views.

Meanwhile, This is the Zodiac Speaking, the latest docuseries about the Zodiac Killer, debuted in second place among TV with 7.5M views.

Inside Out 2 soared onto the Nielsen streaming charts after making its Disney+ debut in September, but it couldn’t quite beat Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.

The sequel to Pixar’s animated hit took second place from September 23 to 29, racking up 1.8B minutes viewed in just a few days, after premiering on the streaming service on Sept. 25.

According to Nielsen, 42% of the audience came from the 2-11 age range, but 41% came from adults 18-49 — suggesting that co-viewing, naturally, was big for this title. But, this also suggests that, nearly a decade after the first film, Inside Out 2 is attracting some young adults who would’ve been the target demo when the original was released (with or without kids of their own).

Meanwhile, Murphy’s latest crime drama outing saw a 40% increase in viewership week-over-week, easily securing the No. 1 spot with 2.4B minutes viewed. Nielsen points out...

Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story led Nielsen’s streaming charts for a second straight week — and grew substantially from its debut.

The Ryan Murphy-produced series was the top title for the week of Sept. 23-29 with just under 2.4 billion minutes of viewing time. That’s a 40 percent improvement on the drama’s opening week (it premiered Sept. 19), which had 1.72 billion minutes of watch time, and the highest total for any streaming series in Nielsen’s rankings since Bridgerton hit 2.47 billion minutes in June.

Two other Netflix series had strong opening weeks: Rom-com Nobody Wants This premiered to 1.04 billion minutes of viewing, and the docuseries Mr. McMahon, about World Wrestling Entertainment impresario Vince McMahon, had 908 million minutes.

On the film chart, Inside Out 2 debuted on Disney+ to 1.82 billion minutes of watch time, the second highest weekly total for any film this year, behind only Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F...

The Cooper Koch and Nicholas Alexander Chavez-led installment logged 2.396 billion viewing minutes during the week of Sept. 23-29, ranking atop the Nielsen overall streaming list for the second week in a row. As “Monsters” added 700 million viewing minutes compared to the previous week, it became the first streaming title to surpass 2 billion viewing minutes since “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” in July.

Following “Monsters” in second place was “Inside Out 2,” which made its Disney+ debut on Sept. 25 after premiering in theaters in July. The “Inside Out” sequel logged 1.82 billion viewing minutes, ranking as the week’s No. 2 overall streaming program and the No.

The Humane star spoke with People about the Brody Renaissance taking place online right now following the release of Netflix’s Nobody Wants This, in which Brody portrays the charming, “hot rabbi,” Noah.

“I wouldn’t go as far as being a proud dad, and I haven’t seen the show, but I’m proud of him all the time as his friend and former TV dad,” he told the publication on Wednesday. “And I’m not surprised at all [of the renaissance]. He’s so talented, and I’m glad he’s still doing his thing.”

A sneak preview of the “Squid Game” Season 2 is among the series set to be in the spotlight as Netflix unveils the return of its fall/winter awards campaign event “The Fall Edit: An FYSee Showcase” next month. This year’s gathering will take place over two weekends (Nov. 2-3 and Nov. 10) at Netflix’s Tudum Theater in Hollywood.
