Apple’s services business reported revenue of $24.97 billion in the company’s fourth quarter, reaching a new all-time high for the company.

The services revenue, which includes the App Store, Apple Pay and Apple Card; subscription services such as Apple TV+, Apple Music and iCloud as well as advertising, was up from $22.3 billion a year ago, but below Wall Street expectations.

Asked whether the company would try to grow its addressable market for offerings such as Apple Music, Apple News, Apple Arcade and Fitness, Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company would continue investing in its services, but that many are made solely with Apple customers in mind.

“Keep in mind that, for us, we’re more focused on being best than being most,” Cook said on the earnings call.

John Slattery will join the upcoming USA Network drama “The Rainmaker” as Leo F. Drummond, the main antagonist of the story in the original John Grisham novel and its 1997 film adaptation, NBCUniversal announced Monday.

The character is described in a release as “one of Grisham’s most iconic characters … a legendary lion of the courtroom and senior partner at Tinley Britt, the powerful firm that Rudy Baylor is up against.”

It has yet to be announced who will play the lead of Baylor, portrayed in the film version by Matt Damon. The series is described in its logline as featuring the “fresh out of law school” Baylor taking on Drummond, “as well as his law school girlfriend. Rudy, along with his boss and her disheveled paralegal, uncover two connected conspiracies surrounding the mysterious death of their client’s son.”

USA Network has found its star for their reboot of John Grisham’s The Rainmaker.

Mad Men alum John Slattery will be leading the yet-to-be-announced cast of the drama from Lionsgate Television and Blumhouse Television that counts Grisham, along with writer Michael Seitzman (Code Black, Intelligence), Jason Richman (Stumptown, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon), David Gernert and Jason Blum as executive producers. Richman and Seitzman co-wrote the pilot.

David Schwimmer will play a power-hungry Nsa agent relocated to the U.K. in “Intelligence,” a new six-part comedy series for Sky in Britain.

Schwimmer is best known to British audiences for his role as Ross in “Friends,” but was recently in the news after British police posted a video of a suspected thief who seemed to bear a striking resemblance to the U.S. star. Seitzman will be showrunner and an executive producer on Quantico‘s upcoming third season. He’ll also continue to serve as showrunner/Ep at Code Black, which is going into Season 3.

Joshua Safran, who created Quantico, stepped down as showrunner at the end of Season 2; the move coincided with the end of his contract with the network.

“Reality is fractured” — think about those words for a second. Reality is supposed to be the one thing that’s absolute. It’s a state of existence we all must face, whether we’re waking up to a cold reality or embracing the reality of now. For it to be fractured, to be broken, is an impossibility. Reality simply is, and what is cannot be undone.

Unless, of course, you’ve been watching the third season of “Fargo.”

Throughout its television saga, Noah Hawley’s period drama about unexpected violence in small town America has been framed as a “true story.” It’s not, of course — that’s merely an appropriation from the Coen brothers’ film. Specifically, like the 1996 movie each episode begins with the statement: “This is a true story,” even though, like the film, it’s not.

But Season 3 has doubled down on its tricky typeface: Hawley, through characters like former police chief Gloria Burgle (Carrie Coon) and a mysterious crime lord named V.M. Varga (David Thewlis), has broken down the meaning of truth in modern America.

“At a basic level, I have to be aware that I’m saying it’s a true story and that reality rarely ties itself up neatly; that reality is subject to randomness and coincidence and all of those things,” Hawley said in an interview with IndieWire. “I felt like our first season, the story basically played itself out until the very last scene. […] The second year, the ninth hour was really the big hour, […] and yet, in the end, it was a tragedy with a happy ending — just like the movie and just like the first season.”

“You’ll see how it turns out this year, but I’ll say I don’t want to take anything for granted like ‘Oh, it’s okay, it always wraps up neatly,'” he said. “There is a sense to which this year’s ‘Fargo’ is really a mirror reflecting our reality back to us at this moment in time, but we don’t know how it’s gonna end or how it’s gonna play out.”

Speaking the day after James Comey testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee, Hawley was quick to point to relevant parallels between “Fargo” and our current cultural status.

“At the end of the day, everyone said, ‘Well James Comey testified and said a lot of damning things for the President of the United States.’ Then this morning the President of the United States tweets that he’s totally vindicated by the testimony yesterday and you go, ‘These two things are completely opposite — only one of them can be true.'”

And yet they’re both true. Objectivity has been tossed aside and much of the news, much of the world, is interpreted solely through the eye of the beholder. In 2017, alternate facts form alternate realities, and the same can be said of “Fargo’s” 2011 world.

“I think that the most jarring impact of this last year — on storytelling in general but certainly on this season of ‘Fargo’ — is the sense that our sense of reality is fractured and that what you think is real and true can be completely opposite from what someone next to you thinks is real and true,” Hawley said.

As an example, Hawley brought up a key scene from Season 3: After a particularly jarring experience, Sy Feltz (Michael Stuhlbarg) returns home to his wife, hugs her, and says, “The world is wrong. It looks like my world but everything is different.”

“I think there are a lot of people who feel that way [right now],” Hawley said. “Like, ‘Wait what? I went to bed in one America and I woke up in a different America.’ And there’s something violent to that.”

Fighting back against the violence is Gloria Burgle, embodying the world’s general symbol of truth, as well as “Fargo’s”: a police officer. Gloria’s journey in Season 3 has filled her with tremendous doubt, and there are many, many scenes of a flustered, frustrated, but resolute Gloria fighting for truth in a world ready to accept a lie. Whether she was rejecting her new chief’s theory that there was a serial killer targeting people with the last name “Stussey” or resisting the transition to technology over one-on-one human interaction, Gloria is both a dying breed and a beacon of hope.

“The war Gloria is really fighting is for the truth itself, that a case can be solved, that we can look objectively back into the past and say, ‘This happened,'” Hawley said. “This idea that you would be presented with a reality that you fundamentally don’t believe in is something that I think a lot of people who live in other countries are more familiar with, but as Americans we’re really not.”

Who wins the war between facts and alternative facts will be revealed in the “Fargo” finale, but the casualties have been clear throughout the season. For now, we wait to see who else will join the list and pray, for the sake of our country, that Gloria is not among the fallen.

The “Fargo” Season 3 finale airs Wednesday, June 21 at 10 p.m. on FX.

After such a mesmerizing start, James Tynion IV’s Detective Comics run hit a bit of a stumbling block with the overly lengthy “League of Shadows.” His next big arc is “Intelligence,” which starts in Detective Comics #958, so we won’t have too long to wait to see if he’s able to recapture the magic of his earlier work. The main plot concerns Weller and Nas finally locating Nsa mole Douglas Winter, who is played by the fantastic P.J. Byrne from Vinyl and Intelligence. Honestly, P.J. Byrne is probably the best thing about this episode. His Winter understandably freaks out non-stop because he wasn't working with Mayfair after all; he was framed by Roman and Shepherd.

The realization that Mayfair doesn't have one last answer to give him sends Weller into a tailspin.

David Semel has been brought onboard to direct the pilot episode of the Bryan Fuller-produced upcoming "Star Trek" TV series set for CBS All Access in the U.S., Space in Canada and Netflix around the rest of the world.

Semel's hiring gives the project a very experienced hand behind-the-scenes. Per Deadline, Castle's Barry Schindel has boarded the Training Day TV show pilot at CBS. He will serve as executive producer and showrunner. Schindel filled the same shoes on the CBS drama, Intelligence, which was cancelled after a 13 episode run. Bill Paxton is set to star, with Katrina Law, Drew Van Acker, and Lex Scott Davis.

The pilot is an adaptation of Denzel Washington's 2001 film, of the same name. It comes from Will Beall, Jerry Bruckheimer, and Jonathan Littman. Set in the present, 15 years after the film, it features a young African-American cop, who Deadline says "is partnered with seasoned, morally ambiguous detective."

If movies have taught us anything, it is that nothing good ever comes of cheating on your spouse. Michael Douglas learned the same in Fatal Attraction and, at the other end of the genre spectrum, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau learned the same in The Other Woman. Now, it appears to be the turn of Josh Duhamel, as he finds himself caught in a ‘honey-trap’ in Misconduct – for which we now have a trailer.

The all-star cast makes the film seem very impressive. Al Pacino, Anthony Hopkins, Malin Akerman, Julia Stiles and Alice Eve all join Duhamel in working hard to hit the right notes in the script by Simon Boyes (Hangman) and newcomer Adam Mason. However, if this trailer is anything to go by, the entire endeavour is at risk of collapsing under its own, hefty weight.

The network has ordered a pilot for the medical procedural “Lfe” from “Pushing Daisies” and “Emily Owens M.D.” veteran Dan Jinks.

The project will center on second-year residents at New York City’s top hospital as they attempt to balance their god complexes with their humanity.

Jinks (pictured) is executive producing the pilot, which is being produced by CBS Television Studios, with Paul Downs Colaizzo writing and co-executive producing.

CBS is breaking out the paddles and reviving the festival award-winning documentary Code Black (pictured) as a drama pilot.

To be penned by Michael Seitzman (Intelligence), the series pilot will be set in “the busiest and most notorious ER in the nation” – L.A. County Hospital – where the extraordinary staff confronts a broken system in order to protect their ideals and the patients who need them the most.

Seitzman and Code Black docu producer/director Ryan McGarry will exec-produce the project alongside Marti Noxon, Linda Goldstein-Knowlton and pilot director David Semel.
