Tyler Perry is about to make history. The prolific creator behind hits like “House of Payne” and “The Haves and the Have Nots” is about to drop his first ever TV series for Netflix with “Beauty in Black,” debuting on Thursday, Oct. 24. The family drama is set to drop the first half of season one on that day with eight episodes, followed by eight more on at a time to be determined. Last seen in Genoa City in 2023, actress Brytni Sarpy is set to reprise her role as Dr. Elena Dawson on CBS’ “The Young and the Restless.”

According to several since-deleted posts on her Instagram Stories timeline, as reported by Soap Opera Digest, Sarpy revealed on Tuesday that she is back at the Television City studio where the daytime drama tapes, with one post containing a photo of dressing room door with a message on it stating “13,000 episodes,” followed by the words “Brytni Sarpy, Dr. Elena Dawson, Welcome back — we miss you!!!” In the caption, Sarpy said, “Missed you too.” Sarpy also shared another photo of herself and co-star Hayley Erin (Claire), who she previously worked alongside during their time at “General Hospital,” where Sarpy portrayed Valerie Spencer and Erin portrayed Kiki Jerome.

“Is it Valerie & Kiki or Elena & Claire?” read the caption of Sarpy’s post, referring to hers and Erin’s alter egos.

If you’re going to remake a classic Stephen King adaptation, you’d better do it right. The Netflix limited series adaptation of the Alice Feeney novel “His & Hers” has added four new cast members.

Crystal Fox, Sunita Mani, and Rebecca Rittenhouse have joined as series regulars, with Marin Ireland set in a supporting role. They will star alongside previously announced cast members Tessa Thompson as well as Jon Bernthal and Pablo Schreiber. Netflix has commissioned six episodes, with production set to begin this fall.

Fresh off an Emmy win just days ago, there’s some more good news for Jon Bernthal: He’s been cast in Netflix’s His & Hers adaptation opposite Tessa Thompson, TVLine has learned.

Danielle Deadwyler is set to receive the Mill Valley Film Festival (Mvff) award for acting at a special screening of her latest film, Netflix’s “The Piano Lesson,” during the 47th edition of the festival.

The California Film Institute (Cafilm) makes the presentation as part of the Mvff Spotlight program, which is dedicated to celebrating exceptional work by film artists in their current roles. With the award, Deadwyler joins the ranks of past honorees including Nikyatu Jusu, Regina King, Denis Villeneuve, Robert Pattinson, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Brie Larson and Steve McQueen.

In “The Piano Lesson,” adapted from August Wilson’s renowned play and directed by Malcolm Washington, Deadwyler stars as Berniece Charles, a woman battling with her brother (John David Washington) over their family heirloom piano. He plans to sell the instrument and build his fortune by buying the land their family toiled, while she is determined to preserve their family history.

Tyler Perry is taking his shows to more viewers by launching two new channels on streaming services you probably use all the time! BET just announced the arrival of BET Tyler Perry Comedy and BET Tyler Perry Drama channels on Fast platforms like Pluto TV, Roku, Freevee, and more.

These new channels will feature over 600 hours of Tyler Perry content from all his popular shows on BET over the years. You’ll find marathons and clips from hits like Sistas, The Oval, House of Payne, Ruthless, Zatima, and Assisted Living. Even more shows like Meet the Browns, The Haves and the Have Nots, and Too Close to Home will be added later.

BET president Louis Carr said this launch is a big moment in their partnership with Perry. It will let more Black audiences enjoy Tyler Perry’s work and offer more viewing options. The shows being free with ads makes them super accessible too.

Great American Pure Flix has announced its fourth original series for 2024 titled Shadrach and starring Livi Birch and Cale Ferrin.

Exclusive: Actor Mike Manning (Days of Our Lives) has signed with APA for representation.

Manning is best known for his recent two-year arc as Charlie Dale on the long-running soap Days of Our Lives, appearing in 65 episodes of the series which recently migrated from NBC to Peacock.

The actor was also seen in a few episodes of the final season of This Is Us — also on NBC — and has previously been seen on such additional series as Netflix’s Welcome to Eden, OWN’s The Haves and the Have Nots, MTV’s Teen Wolf, TNT’s Major Crimes, and CBS’s Hawaii Five-0, to name a few.

Manning appears in Damien Chazelle’s Old Hollywood epic Babylon for Paramount, which this year is nominated for three Academy Awards, and was previously seen in the 2018 SXSW prize winner, Jinn.

Manning continues to be represented by Kurt Patino of Patino Management Company.

While Chinonye Chukwu was filming “Till” — which tells the story of Mamie Till-Mobley’s relentless pursuit of justice following the lynching of her 14-year-old son, Emmett Till — she spotted someone she didn’t recognize visiting with the film’s producer and star Whoopi Goldberg on the Atlanta set. “I see this tall man. I was like, ‘Who is this?’” Chukwu recalls. The mysterious visitor was Tyler Perry.

Based on early reporting, the critically-acclaimed drama Starz drama was up 1,018 from its series debut on the Starz app, setting a record as the largest season over season growth in the streamer’s history.

With several platforms yet to report and additional territories globally to debut the series, it drew 4.5 million multiplatform viewers for its season two premiere weekend in the U.S. alone.

The hit series, which premiered its second season on June 3, drove record subscription growth with the highest number of acquisitions in three years making it one of the best-performing series of all time.

The sophomore season from creator, executive producer and Pulitzer Prize-winner Katori Hall, also ranks as the most socially-engaged primetime drama over the premiere weekend across all networks.

Danielle Deadwyler, known for her roles in The Haves and the Have Nots and Station Eleven, has been tapped as the lead for J.J. Abrams‘ upcoming HBO series Demimonde. According to Variety, Deadwyler plays Olive Reed, a woman who is ripped away from her husband and daughter in a brutal scientific accident. The series follows Reed as she sets about unraveling a conspiracy to reunite with her family, who are now lost to a dark and distant other world. Demimonde has been in development since 2018 and is currently in early pre-production. Abrams will write, direct, and executive produce the series through his Bad Robot Productions. Kira Snyder, Rand Ravich, and Far Shariat serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. Bad Robot’s Ben Stephenson and Rachel Rusch Rich are also on board as exec producers. Deadwyler is no stranger to HBO, having recently played Miranda Carroll in HBO Max’s miniseries Station Eleven.

The film directed by NAACP Image Award winner Anton Cropper (Black-ish) has entered production in Atlanta and will debut exclusively on Paramount+ later this year.

Fantasy Football follows 16-year-old Callie Coleman (Martin), who discovers that she can control her professional football player dad Bobby Coleman’s (Hardwick) prowess on the field through EA Sports’ Madden NFL. Rowland is playing Callie’s mother, Keisha Coleman, with Flynn portraying Bobby’s rookie archival, Anderson Fisher. The premium cabler has released the new teaser trailer for of its critically acclaimed series, "a kaleidoscopic story of a little-strip-club-that-could located down deep in the Mississippi Delta, and the big characters who enter its doors."

The hit drama from creator and executive producer Katori Hall, premieres Friday, June 3 at midnight on the Starz app, Starz streaming, and on-demand platforms and internationally on the Starzplay premium streaming platform across the UK and Latin America.

Dwayne Johnson’s autobiographical NBC comedy “Young Rock” has cast “Ballers” actor Arlyn Broche as a very personal character in The Rock’s life: Dany Garcia, his college sweetheart-turned-ex-wife-and-business-partner, Variety has learned exclusively.

Per the official description for the character, who will be a recurring guest star on the upcoming second season of “Young Rock,” Dany is compassionate and caring while also being a disciplined athlete and future CEO. The Power universe is in fine form.

Starz on Wednesday announced a pickup for Power Book IV: Force Season 2, a little over a month from its premiere. 

The third spinoff in the Power franchise debuted February 6 as the most-watched premiere ever in Starz history with 3.3M multiplatform views in the U.S. alone.

The series premiere broke app viewership records delivering the most-watched day on the Starz app and on linear as the highest-rated premiere - both in the network's history.

"Fans have been eagerly awaiting Joseph's return as the iconic 'Tommy Egan' and from the show's record-setting debut, it was clear right away that they want to see another season of him taking on this new city," said Jeffrey Hirsch, President and CEO at Starz.

The Power universe remains a big draw for Starz.

The series premiere of Power Book IV: Force got off the ground running with 3.3 million total multiplatform viewers on Sunday.

The premium cable network has announced the Joseph Sikora-led drama is the most-watched premiere ever in the cabler's history.

What's more, Power Book IV: Force and Power Book II: Ghost together gave the app its most-watched day ever.

“The Power Universe continues to deliver worldwide hit series with incredible performance that compares favorably with many other high-profile streaming series,” Starz president and CEO Jeffrey Hirsch said in a statement.

“We’re excited to see these strong early numbers for the premiere of Power Book IV: Force, which is poised to join our growing lineup of tentpole series at Starz that have global multiplatform season average views in the nine to 10 million range.”

HBO’s “Perry Mason” is adding some new suspects to the case.

The period drama, based on the popular 1930s detective fiction character created by Eric Stanley Garner, has added four new recurring cast members to its upcoming second season. Joining the cast are Sean Astin, Tommy Dewey (“Casual”), Paul Raci (“Sound of Metal”) and Jen Tullock (“Before You Know It”). In addition, Shea Wingham (“Boardwalk Empire”), formerly a main cast member in the show’s first season, will return in a recurring capacity. Tommy Egan will call Chicago home in Power Book IV: Force, but he shouldn’t expect much of a housewarming party upon arriving.

Starz on Monday dropped a full-length trailer for its next Power spinoff, in which Joseph Sikora reprises his role as Tommy from the mothership series. Though Tommy briefly returned to New York in an episode of Power Book II: Ghost back in January 2021, the forthcoming Force will find Tommy leaving the Big Apple behind for good… only to immediately find new foes as soon as he’s in Chicago.

Power Book IV: Force has a premiere date.

Starz on Thursday announced the highly anticipated fourth series in the Power universe will receive its premiere on February 6.

The Joseph Sikora-led spinoff will follow Tommy as he “cuts ties and puts New York in his rearview mirror for good,” per the official logline.

He heads to Chicago, which will probably lead to some more twists and turns for him.

The cast includes Tommy Flanagan (Sons of Anarchy), Shane Harper (Hightown), Lili Simmons (Banshee), Gabrielle Ryan (The Haves and the Have Nots), Anthony Fleming III (Prison Break), Kris D. Lofton (Ballers), Isaac Keys (Get Shorty), and Lucien Cambric (The Chi).

Starz is heavily committed to expanding the Power universe, with Book II: Ghost launching last year and Book III: Raising Kanan launching earlier this year.

Power Book V: Influence is also planned for later next year.

A flu pandemic has ravaged society in a newly released teaser for HBO Max’s limited series Station Eleven (premiering with its first three episodes on Thursday, Dec. 16).

Starz’s John Wick prequel series The Continental has found its Winston Scott: Colin Woodell (The Flight Attendant, The Originals) will star as the younger version of Ian McShane’s movie character, our sister site Deadline reports.

Produced by Lionsgate Television, the three-night event takes John Wick fans back to 1975 New York City, where a young criminal named Winston Scott (Woodell) navigates the city’s nefarious underbelly in an attempt to take control of The Continental, a notorious hangout for all manner of ne’er-do-wells.
