Enjoyable for those who haven't seen Nuit Blanche or Thoonga Vanam! [+44%]
Bloody Daddy, the Hindi remake of Nuit Blanche, lacks a distinct identity. While there's a deliberate attempt to stylize the plot proceedings and drench it in colourful frames, slow-motion, and a riff-filled score, I couldn't really buy into Shahid's "saviour dad" act or the (COVID) updates they made to the original script. Kamal Hassan, in the Tamil remake, did a much better job in the slightly better and less over-the-top Thoongaa Vanam. He also incorporated subtlety into the script that he wrote, while retaining its core elements. The extended fight scene in the kitchen between Hassan and Trisha was one of its highlights.
Here, the set-pieces are more elaborate (i.e. In terms of scale), and a lot of it seems inspired from the John Wick movies. Some scenes are also underlined by a hip-hop themed score, with portions of songs added (it's "Bollywood" after all). It may work for those who haven't watched either of those films, though the stylization came off as a bit forced for me. Ali Abbas Zafar has assembled a strong line-up of actors, and that's probably the only reason it remains entirely watchable.
P. S - Stop showing off Abu Dhabi as New Delhi (or Gurugram), for heaven's sake!
