Welcome to North Shore unless you're in the recording booth doing post production audio replacement dialogue.. Someone should've worked on that a little bit more because some dialogue sounds janky, other bits are really noticeable and it's fine but you think it would've been picked up?.
Well not many shows set on the beach other then reality TV or all the seasons of Bondi Rescue.
This is like Bondi Rescue but not in Sydney. It's set in Hawaii which is stunning in this and it was great to see Robbie Magasiva playing Sonny, he finally looks settled and happy post Wentworth and while I love him, I see the character battling some bad demons.
Sonny made a deal with the 'devil' hoping he sees that persons lies soon enough.
Here for the banter between characters keeping it real in a dangerous profession and being there for each other when needed.

I want to like this but some of the actors have no depth which makes their characters boring. I started wa5xhing because of my long standing crush on Arielle. I know there is a thing known as Hawaiian time, but these episodes seem drawn out trying to create the drama. Some of the characters are annoying and the show could do without them.
I'll probably keep watching to see if anything changes to male it better. It doesnt warrant a lower rating because it isnt an awful show. There are some exciting sequences in the show but probably not enough to generate a big enough audience for a second season.

Going to disagree with the other reviewers... the characters are likeable, the action is exciting, the show is visually stunning, and I feel like I've taken a beach vacation after watching an episode... this show has its place and I hope it gains a following!!
The attention to detail in the set design, the underwater camera work, and the way it seems like these actors actually learned the jet skiing and rescue swimming... other shows can have their award-winning acting and dialogue (really enjoying The Old Man right now for that kind of thing)... this is still a roaring good time.
Let's hope the 9-11 lead-in buys it some time and viewership... looking forward to every episode.

The cinematography is beautiful but I have to say that it was very long, drawn out, and mostly boring. I will DVR the show and scan through it to get to any exciting parts but 90% of the show was talking, flirting, or just boring acting. Realistically, it didn't really hold my attention too much. Again, it just seemed very long and boring for the little bit of action that took place. And the action parts that did happen weren't very realistic for so-called professional lifeguards. If you skip through the show and just go to the couple action parts, you'll be fine. But I'm glad that I did DVR it so I could skip through a lot of the downtime.
I love this show. The action and the storyline, especially the realistic rescues. I read they are based on real rescues. The emotional side of the rescuers personal life adds more intrigue. I hope they continue to make more episodes. The s scenery if beautiful and enjoyable to watch
The actors are great and blend well together .
I am repeating that I love and enjoy this show.
You can tell the actors have to keep in good shape in order to keep up with the show. I have even more appreciation and in awe of the lifeguards who risk their lives every day to save the lives of people they don't. Have.

I had higher hopes for this show... hopefully it gets better but I am not impressed so far.
The characters aren't likable. The "Cap" acts like a moody, teenager girl. He may have lost someone but my goodness he's an idiot. In fact they all act pretty idiotic. Idiocy mixed with a giant dose of arrogance? All the characters? Yup. I'm bored and their idiotic behavior irritates me to the point of not wanting to watch any longer.
I was excited for the show because I love Arielle Kebble and the plot sounded decent but like I said, NOT IMPRESSED.
Here's hoping it gets better. If I continue to try watching it anyway...

This is a great new show. The cast is amazing and you can see the comradery among them. The range of characters make it easy for you to identify with them easily. The setting is in Hawaii's North Shore also known as Hawaii's Seven Mile Miracle. Family friendly and the stories are funny, exciting and definitely unexpected. Give this show a chance. All shows start off slow to some but it's only because you don't know the characters yet. This could end up being as great a show as the original Hawaii 5-0, the new Hawaii 5-0, the original Magnum P. I., the new Magnum P. I., NCIS Hawaii( which should not have been cancelled Paramount). I for one love this show and hope it continues on for many seasons. Favorite characters so far are Sonny and Hina.
4 shows in and still boring. Seems like they are trying to over dramatize each show and character. Still not very impressed. They need less drama and more character building on a positive note and not making every one with a messed up passed. May be a couple shows where the cast are connecting at a simple level and not sexual. Usual you can find a cast member or two that you can relate with and enjoy, but in this cast they are all just show offs and I have never met lifeguards that act so childish like these guys do. Not to mention the Boss is a nut case with a missing screw..... but seems to still be the boss of a team........... weird.....

Story is ok kind of slow. But the action sequences are top tier with the camera angels. Seems like a modern day bay watch for this generation if of tv viewers with the similar drama. Hopefully the branching stories don't get stale in the long run. Hawaii is a great choice since the north shore is one of the most dangerous beaches in the e tire world to surf. Knowing fox they will axe this show after one season since modern television shows now these days don't last no more than a season of all platforms of streaming and cable TV networks. But overall it's a good popcorn on your couch type of television fun.

The show feels like an informative documentary, but it lacks the entertainment value that keeps viewers engaged. The introduction, which is crucial for drawing the audience in, fails to captivate. Instead of hooking the viewer with a compelling start, it meanders, leaving the audience disinterested from the get-go. This is a significant misstep, as a strong introduction sets the tone for the entire series and can make or break the viewer's initial impression.
The premise of the show is promising. It has all the elements of a great story: an intriguing plot, interesting characters, and a setting that could provide a rich backdrop for the narrative. However, the execution falls short. The potential of the storyline is undermined by several factors, the most glaring of which is the lack of quality acting by some of the cast members. Acting is a critical component of any show, as it brings the characters to life and makes the audience care about their journeys. When the acting is subpar, it breaks the immersion and makes it difficult for viewers to connect with the characters and their stories.
In this case, the acting feels wooden and unconvincing. Some cast members seem to struggle with their roles, delivering lines in a way that feels forced and unnatural. This lack of authenticity can be jarring for viewers, pulling them out of the story and reminding them that they are watching a performance rather than experiencing a real-life event. Good acting should make the audience forget that they are watching actors and instead make them feel as though they are witnessing real people in real situations. Unfortunately, this show does not achieve that level of immersion.
Moreover, the pacing of the show is another issue. It drags in places where it should be brisk and engaging. There are moments that feel unnecessarily drawn out, which can lead to boredom and frustration for the viewer. Pacing is crucial in maintaining the audience's interest, and when it is off, it can make even the most interesting story feel tedious. The show would benefit from tighter editing and a more dynamic narrative flow to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
The production values of the show are also a mixed bag. While some aspects, such as the cinematography and set design, are well done, others, like the special effects and sound design, leave much to be desired. High-quality production values can elevate a show, making it visually and aurally appealing. When these elements are lacking, it can detract from the overall viewing experience. In this case, the inconsistencies in production quality are noticeable and detract from the show's potential impact.
Despite these shortcomings, the show does have some redeeming qualities. The premise, as mentioned earlier, is intriguing and has the potential to develop into a compelling narrative if given the right treatment. There are moments of brilliance where the story shines through, hinting at what the show could be with better execution. These glimpses of potential make the show's flaws all the more frustrating, as they highlight what could have been a great series.
In conclusion, the show feels like an informative documentary that fails to entertain. The introduction does not draw the viewer in, and the lack of quality acting by some cast members makes it seem like a one-season blunder that has been swept away by the crashing waves. The promising premise is undermined by poor execution, wooden acting, uneven pacing, and inconsistent production values. While there are moments of potential, they are not enough to save the show from its flaws. It is a disappointing experience for viewers who were hoping for a captivating and well-executed series. With improvements in acting, pacing, and production quality, the show could potentially redeem itself in future seasons, but as it stands, it falls short of its promise.

This show is incredibly easy to watch, making it perfect for a relaxed viewing experience.
As the season progresses, I'm hopeful that it will delve deeper into the characters and their storylines, offering more depth and complexity. The performances are engaging, and the chemistry among the cast is palpable. Featuring a mix of both familiar faces and new talent, it's always enjoyable to see what each actor brings to the table.
Additionally, the series does an outstanding job of showcasing the breathtaking landscapes and vibrant culture of Hawaii, making it not just a story, but a visual treat as well. I look forward to seeing how it evolves and where the characters' journeys take them!

So to be fair, I have only watched the pilot. That being said, you should start off with a bang - unfortunately this show was firing blanks at all levels. The location is ok, the concept is simple, but it's the characters and acting that kill any desire to want to continue watching the rest of the series. I've seen better acting from middle school drama. I think this show would have been better off starting at the beginning of lifeguard training and maybe even before that, this way they could've explored the motivation of each character and why they wanted to become lifeguards. Set up some more back story, because after all they are just lifeguards - how much variety do they anticipate they'll have (although baywatch seemed to last a while)...

Same premise, different beach. Right down to the father figure leading the pack. Only missing the top heavy bimbo lifeguard, but maybe she just hasn't been introduced yet. Beautiful shots of Hawaii, at least.
Apparently if you can wear a bikini top, you don't need a rash guard. Who knew breasts could protect you from coral and sand? Very sexist, including making one of the male characters a chauvinist.
Actually watched this because I thought it was actual rescues - definitely would have been more enjoyable. For a pilot episode, it was slow and limped along. I won't be tuning in to see if it improves any.

We have watched since the first episode. It's not getting any better. It's boring. The characters are boring and unlikable. The scenery is nice - but a TV show cannot exist on scenery alone (unless it's Aerial America). The stories are really stupid. The turmoil between characters is ridiculous. The Captain (Uncle Sonny) is not a good leader. He's moody. He's mean. He's silly. He's ridiculous. Arielle Kebbel's character is wishy-washy. She should stick to Hallmark movies. This show is crisis-after-crisis. Of course, people are this crazy ... so that part is probably true. BUT there's nothing to endear us to these characters. I just plain DON'T CARE about any of them ...
Perhaps the worst camera operating I've ever seen on TV.
Sloppy handheld, bizarre frames, no scope. For anyone who knows anything about cinematography- this ain't it. And it's clear they don't have the time to do it well.
Travesty, as the North Shore is so stunning- and this does nothing to support that.
STOP the lazy handheld, stop punching into shots, and stabilize your shots. It's not adding movement for energy, it's unprofessional. Period.
The script and its characters are run of the mill. Action? Underwhelmed. Heart? Also, underwhelmed.
Let's step up the next season.. for Hawaii's sake. Please.

Bad writing, lacklustre acting. Filled with every conceivable cliche and tired trope. Doesn't do anything new, just rehashing tired old themes and doesn't even try to present it in a different or unique way. I may watch again but only if I need help falling asleep.
The father figure who knuckles under to political pressure, abandoning all his principles and tradition to take on some snot nosed man child who clearly will be shown up by the promising female character but was surprise given a reprieve when the political payout allow the chief to *gasp* bend the rules, but also accommodated tradition by hiring her. Shocking that we couldn't see that coming from a mile off. Hardly redeems him as a character and makes him look weak. Hardly what you want in a father figure/leadership role. I predict he'll be tossed in favour of the female second in command soon enough. Because you not only have to tell stories a certain politically correct way, but you have to telegraph it so even the most intellectually challenged amongst us can guess as to what will happen next.
Awful.

If you are looking for a modern rehash of Baywatch, then you have found your new love. But if you have skills like critical thinking, common sense, and the desire for complex plots then I would advise you skip this. Cliche, wooden acting, boring rescues and surface level depth. I guess writers are just lazy these days and the only thing going on in Hollywood boardrooms is searching old shows that were successful and trying to modernize them. Problem is times have changed and people are tired of the same old tropes. And modern tropes are even worse than the tropes of the old days. We need some fresh ideas and we are not getting them. Not to mention the acting is horrendous, I mean very bad. I like the Australian guy who was a guard in the Australian show Wentworth, but he seems tired and uninterested in this show. As do most of the cast. Forced romance and predictable plots are what you see here. Hawaii is beautiful and the landscapes are nice but it's just not enough. Still holding out that someday we will see an original idea for a show. But this isn't it. Come on writers take some risks and try something new and complex. More content does not mean better content.
The writing is lackluster and minimal along with the plot. The staging choices and angle of the shots for many scenes are terrible, there is a major lack of focus and cohesiveness . The acting is not great either, Arielle is ok, love her normally but that is not enough to waste my time. Many shots of the water aren't even close to looking the same as where the emergency is happening. Lifeguards looking at the water but not seeing the emergency right in front of them? So many questionable decisions like that. They must have wasted too much money not to air it but oh my gosh some of them must be so embarrassed. Tried 3 episodes and can't tolerate another to put more info in this review. Cut your losses guys and give Arielle a permanent spot in 911.

The trailer showed some promise, however four episodes in and there is very little hint at a plot. There was some hope out of the pilot but nothing over the next three episodes to make me want to wait 7 days to see another episode.
The dialogue is thin, the acting is average and suspense is minimal. The editing is random, episodes end with nothing to draw you into watching the next week. The cinematography is the saving grace with Hawaii providing a gorgeous backdrop.
I'm an Aussie and love Bondi rescue, an unscripted show that has more action, entertaining characters and emotional buy in, with the added benefit of being real life.

He is so boring. He needs to get over himself and his self pity. I wish they would get rid of him. He is mean , and he has no respect for the people under him. He needs counseling really bad, but walks out of it. Please get another lead that has personality. I really like Arielle Kibbel she isn't like a Baywatch babe and she does have personality. She would make more sense of being in charge. As long as they don't turn this into Baywatch 2.0 , this show has potential. I'm really looking forward to see if this will get a second season, I think it deserves that as long as the male lead doesn't ruin it, especially being an unknown actor.
