- Follows Emily as she struggles to cope with her new reality after losing her sight and Garth, a potential guide dog struggling with his training. With a bit of help both make headway in their important transitions.
- Emily is an active woman both at work and in her personal life, where she engages in activities such as climbing with her boyfriend. One day, while they are out climbing, Emily has an accident and becomes blind. Now, she must try to adapt to a life where she may never be able to see again. Things don't get any easier when her boyfriend moves for a new job. However, she receives support from her coworkers who don't want her to quit. Matthew, the owner of the climbing facility where Emily used to climb, also steps in to help. On the sidelines there is also Garth, who is training to become a guide dog.
- The parallel and only infrequently intersecting stories of Emily and Garth are told, with Garth, upon his initial meeting with Emily, which she probably does not remember, hoping that he will someday end up with her. With the former, Emily is a beloved team lead at work, most of her team members who admit their enjoyment of work is because she is their boss. She is independent minded and adventurous, one of her favorite activities, in an inability to sit still, is rock climbing, something to which she has introduced her workaholic boyfriend Connor. Most of Emily's thoughts are on their imminent nuptials and their future married life together. With the latter, Garth has just moved in with mother and son Katie and Alex as Garth, without yet fully understanding the implications, begins training for what is planned to be his life work. Garth is Katie's first ever "client", she fully aware of what will be the bittersweet but necessary eventual end of their relationship. Emily and Garth's lives have a greater potential to intersect when Emily gets into a freak accident, the resulting concussion which has rendered her sightless, the prognosis being that, following the initial surgery, her sight will return once the bandages over her eyes are removed. Even in this uncertain state, some people come to the forefront in doing whatever they can to help her live a life without being able to see, one of those unexpected people being Matthew, the owner/operator of her rock climbing gym, while others demonstrate that they are unable to be there for her as she needs. With the possibility that she will lose her sight forever, Emily goes into a phase in believing that her life as she knows it, of adventure and independence, including her ability to continue with her job, may come to an end. The issue with Garth is that he is a Golden Lab, his initial chance encounter with Emily being when he was just a puppy not yet having begun his training to become a seeing eye dog.—Huggo
