I don't normally do reviews but I wanted to on this. I think this is the best that channel 5 have put on. Yes the first episode was rushed and could have been shown over 3 episodes but stick with it. I have Sky and Disney plus,Netflix and I'm enjoying this a lot more that what I pay for. I really hope they will do a season 2 after this finishes. I love period dramas and it's not Downton abbey but they haven't the budget obviously because it's channel 5. I think a lot of people will enjoy this,if they get over the first episode. Claire Cooper is brilliant in this and Julie Graham. Everyone needs to remember what channel it's on and it's not bad.

A great accompaniment alongside ACGAS, much needed for those who love a period drama!
However very disappointed with some of the cast. Claire Coopers glaringly obvious botox was so distracting, it took away from the accuracy of the time. What on earth were they thinking!?
It was also difficult to take her character seriously having known who she played in Hollyoaks. She isn't the right actress for this part and sad to see C5 think people would overlook this. I'm sure there is a whole host of British northern actresses who would have been better suited for the role.
Conor Deane is brilliant, along with Julie Graham and Taheen Modak. Not sure on the actors chosen who don't look historically accurate for the time in Yorkshire.

So many attempts at humorous disparaging comments, make you wonder why they bother watching then reviewing.
The thing is, its entertainment. Not a documentary not a bio. It may be clichéd and clearly not reality but it's also engaging and entertaining.
The overall package keeps you watching as the characters develop nicely and you can see the problems and diversions for the main characters slowly but surely developing.
Ma makes me laugh. Keeping all feet firmly on the ground whilst others are desperate to elevate their social standing, to start with at least.
View with an open mind and you'll enjoy the humour as well as the emotional ups and downs.

I think I am going to enjoy watching The Hardacres! The first episode allows us to not only root for the characters but also makes them relatable. Their situation speaks to hard times and what people go through to make ends meet.
I especially admire The Hardacres are a close family that support each other but also attempt their own journey.
I hope they show more of their struggle, their friends, neighbors, etc. I would love to see more of their background!
The Hardacres achieve something that many of us only dream of! Hit it rich!
The first episode has a nice ending....think Pretty Woman moment when she tried shopping on Rodeo Drive. I loved that mama Hardacre had the last word in the episode!!!

Watch it if you want to enjoy six episodes of light drama mixed with a lot of comedy that might not appeal to everyone, but it's a charming show I can actually recommend to anyone looking for a short, six-episode series to enjoy at any time. However, don't watch it expecting to compare it with other shows that represent this historical period, as it's likely not suited for such comparisons.
The first episode moved quickly with its events, which may not seem entirely logical in reality, but again, I'll say don't look for logic or comparisons-just watch it to enjoy. It's pure fun in this series, and honestly, I loved it. Maybe the ending wasn't ideal; I would have at least liked to see the wedding. But so far, we're not sure if they'll stop at one season. I think it might get another season because, in reality, it didn't get bad ratings, which I can understand. I watched it, and honestly, it's a good choice for a quick watch.

As my heading says best show on tv for a long time, I absolutely loved it, the actors were all amazing and did the show proud there had better be a season 2. I really want to see how The Hardacres continue in the upper classes and feel this show has so much more to offer. A true crowd pleaser with everything you need in a good drama. Highs, lows, laughter and tears truly fantastic acting from all the cast. I want more of this with the same cast and more great storylines from the Hardacre family. Let's make it happen channel 5 I couldn't get enough of this truly heartwarming series and want to see more!

The Hardacres isn't going to win any awards but it isn't half bad as an easy Autumn watch with its lovely Yorkshire backdrops. With an obviously limited budget the period setting is pretty much defined by a country house and the clothes of the time, which is a shame.
Overall its much closer to those old Catherine Cookson TV movies than higher budget efforts like Poldark. Production wise I felt it was a bit far-fetched story wise with lots of predictable pay-offs and the pilot episode was definitely too rushed. The soundtrack was very busy, honestly less is more.
Made by the same outfit as 'All Creatures Great & Small' I wanted something a bit more sophisticated, but hopefully it will find an audience and find its feet properly in series two.
Worth a look if you're a fan of period drama/family sagas.

A truly dreadful account of struggle and desperation in 19th century Yorkshire where death and starvation happened on a regular basis
But no , with a story and script straight from a mills and boon daytime soap within weeks the family are rolling in it
With everyone trying far too hard to speak with the worst Yorkshire accent ever life just gets better and better
If only life up north were only this easy in those days
Totally unbelievable and ridiculous
When middle class scriptwriters sit down and write this rubbish maybe just maybe it might help to read some history books first and try to make it a little more realistic.
A boom and bust celebration of the right to buy and free enterprise. Basically a family tirn their backs on manual labour to enter the petit bourgoisie and then escalate rapidly into stockbroking with immediate results. The villans are all middle management and the working classes. All aided by nil income tax and no inheritance tax. The other message is health care is not a requirement as long as you ars rich enough to avoid manual labour. The aspiration is home ownership and the Victotorian version of the four car garage. By episode 5 they'll be throwing stones at miners and declaring war on Argentina. I am sure this will be a resounding success in America and Surrey.
