Based on the true story of Jacqueline Perry and Mark Jordan, who in 2005 were attacked by a bear at a campsite in Missinaibi Lake provincial park about 80 kilometers north of Chapleau, Ontario (Canada).
The film is set in fictional "Nibookaazo Provincial Park", this can be seen written on the side of the canoe towards the end of the film.
In the native North American Ojibwe language this translates into "Pretend to be Dead Provincial Park"
