Sadly, one of the writers, Duane Poole, passed away in April 2023. The architectural firm that Jack and his brother run in this film is Poole2, in honor of Duane who is mentioned in the closing credits.
At one point, a character references going to "the shop around the corner." Most likely, this references the 1940 film of that title, which is about two people who know each other, but don't realize they have been communicating anonymously.
Jack mentions his love of the work of Chicago-based architect Daniel Burnham (1856-1912). The picture on the wall behind his desk is the Selfridge & Co. department store, which was designed by Burnham and located in London.
