When the calendar turns to fall, the feel-good brand known for adorable rom-coms and low-stakes mysteries (not to mention greeting cards) ramps up its output, and that has never been more true than this year. In addition to all of the Countdown to Christmas titles on the Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Mystery’s Miracles of Christmas slate, Hallmark+ is rolling out its own collection of streaming exclusive holiday series and movies. There’s a bar in Studio City where writers and actors can take any residuals check under $1 and exchange it for a drink.

Residuals – the bar, that is – may now start seeing fewer checks from writers after it emerged that the WGA West is introducing direct deposits for the first time.

The writers guild, which scored an increase in residuals, particularly for streaming, during last year’s strike, is rolling out the new direct deposits plan in phases. Some writers began receiving emails last week that will allow them to register to its new payment hub, while others will receive these emails over the coming weeks and it will eventually be available to all WGA West members.

Last month, it was revealed in the Wgaw’s annual financial report that while employment and earnings was down last year, as a result of the strike, the guild collected more residuals.

Lacey Chabert is starring in another Christmas film, this time for Netflix. The actor, best known for her roles in “Mean Girls,” “Party of Five” and over 30 Hallmark films, will lead “Hot Frosty” for the streamer.

The film will also star Dustin Milligan, Joe Lo Truglio (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”), Craig Robinson (“The Office”), Katy Mixon (“American Housewife”), Lauren Holly (“Dumb and Dumber”) and Chrishell Stause (“Selling Sunset”).

The film’s official logline reads, “Two years after losing her husband, Cathy magically brings a handsome snowman to life! Through his naïveté, the snowman helps Cathy to laugh, feel and love again, as the two fall for each other just in time for the holidays…and before he melts.”

Jerry Ciccoritti will direct from a script by Russell Hainline.

Producers include Joel S. Rice and Michael Barbuto for Muse Entertainment, while Aren Prupas and Jonas Prupas will executive produce.

Luke Macfarlane is revealing his holiday movie earnings, and he’s not ho-ho-hoing all the way to the bank.

“You were in [Single All the Way on Netflix], was the paycheck bigger [than Hallmark]?” Daniel Tosh asked Macfarlane, 43, during a recent episode of his Tosh Show podcast.

Macfarlane replied, “Smaller.”

Macfarlane has been a Hallmark staple since 2015. Earlier this year, Macfarlane appeared in Notes of Autumn and Catch Me If You Claus. He is now seen in Netflix’s Single All the Way.

“So, I’ve had, like, sort of overall deals with [Hallmark where] I’m gonna commit to five Christmas movies or five movies, but I can’t work for any other networks and they can’t be holiday-related movies,” Macfarlane explained, noting he could sign onto Single All the Way at the time because that was “outside of my deal.”

Asked if Hallmark pays well, Macfarlane nodded and said that his “rate goes up” for successive projects.

It’s not just about those repeats of A Christmas Story on TNT anymore.

Multiple linear channels and streamers are getting into the holiday spirit this month and next by dropping original Christmas movies, as well as old favorites and one-off holiday specials. As usual, Hallmark has wall-to-wall flicks planned until the end of the month, but Great American Family, Lifetime and BET have their own original slates as well to help ring in the new year.

And if the classics are all that you are looking for, there are still airings of It’s a Wonderful Life, Elf, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Home Alone, The Santa Cause, The Wizard of Oz and Miracle on 34th Street scheduled for the boomers and Gen Xers.

And yes, on the big days, several channels have do have marathon programming events.
