From venue changes and the pandemic to political backlash and the threat of litigation, Salem Horror Fest founder and director Kay Lynch has never been one to back down. The festival’s seventh annual event, which kicked off last night at Salem’s Peabody Essex Museum, was further proof of her resilience.

After its original headliner, Hocus Pocus star Kathy Najimy, canceled with less than 48 hours notice, the festival’s entire opening night ceremony was restructured. On lieu of the original $50 ticket charge, the program was made free (with the option to make a donation), costing the festival an untold amount of money.

But the show must go on — and it did so in spectacular fashion with horror icon Linnea Quigley sitting down for a live interview, while the Hocus Pocus screening was replaced by The People’s Joker, previously scheduled to be the festival’s closing film.

Paris Games Week is the gift that keeps on giving with another trailer for Insomniac Games upcoming Spider-Man game. Between you and I and the internet I think it may be the best.

Insomniac Games is making me a happy gamer. I have enjoyed Spider-Man video games throughout the years and I think it’s been too long since I had one. We’re getting more detail about the game as well finding out that this is a Peter in his early twenties and he’s been Spider-Man for about 8 years now. After having imprisoned the Kingpin Wilson Fisk we find Peter having to deal with the power vacuum caused as a gang called the Inner Demons attempts to fill that void. Fans got a taste of the rapper's Friends-inspired music video starring Tiffany Haddish, Issa Rae and more last week, and now the full video has been released online.

Beyond the monetary cost of increased law-enforcement efforts and goods stolen from businesses, the negative effects of heroin are more accurately measured in the ever-growing number of young lives lost. IFC Midnight announced the acquisition of the U.S. rights to “Eli Roth Presents ‘The Stranger,'” which premiered at the 2014 Fantastic Fest.

Guillermo Amoedo wrote and directed the violent genre film, which centers around a mysterious man who travels to a small Canadian town looking for his wife and instead finds a bloodbath.

Lara Vosburgh, remember that name. If there is any justice in the world of media production, film, television, theater, what have you, Lara Vosburgh should have a bright and interesting career ahead of her. Inner Demons works overtime thanks to her talent which is nothing short of astonishing.

Inner Demons is presented as a faux documentary, in fact it is presented as a video work in progress, all raw footage shot with hand held cameras and caught on security video systems. Much like Blair Witch Project and the many shot on video films that came in its wake, Inner Demons uses the grounded in reality of shot on video to present an outrageous situation with a believability that is at times, yes, horrifying, and scary.

Philadelphia's Awesome Fest sounds… well… awesome. To be clear, though, it appears this is an evolution of the already-existent event, which is now being called The Bruce Campbell Horror Film Festival. As you would expect with a name like that, Bruce Campbell will indeed be there as part of the four-day event in Rosemont, Il, where they'll also be screening a slate of horror titles curated by Scott Weinberg, horror maven and the resident critic at the just-killed FEARnet. Inner Demons centres on a reality show film crew covering a young girl who appears to be fighting addiction but may in fact be battling something far darker.

The film premiered at the La Film Festival and is based on the screenplay by Glenn Gers.

IFC Midnight brokered the deal with Submarine and Lichter, Grossman, Nichols, Adler and Feldman on behalf of the filmmakers.

Following a similar path with “Paranormal Actvity" start at a film festival, the movie “Inner Demons” revives the found footage horror films at the Los Angeles Film Festival this year.

The truly scary movie takes a different tact with an intervention reality television show trying to save a young girl from drug abuse. Unbeknownst to the production crew, family and rehab center, the girl is actually possessed by an evil spirit trying to get out.

The film marks the first starring role in a feature film for Lara Vosburgh. It is directed by Seth Grossman (“The Butterfly Effect 3: Revelations”).

Latino-Review had an exclusive sit down interview with Vosburgh and Grossman after their screening at the film festival. We discussed the idea of found footage, horror movies in general and the challenges in acting and makeup.

With the 20th La Film Festival now underway (until June 19), Indiewire sent out questionnaires to filmmakers with films screening at Laff asking them a variety of questions as part of the How I Shot That series. Synopsis:

An "Intervention"-style reality show crew films an episode about a sixteen-year-old girl, a former A-student who is fighting addiction but may in fact be suffering from something even more destructive: demonic possession. The movie is an inquiry into the truth about her – with symptoms that straddle the disturbing and scary intersection between insanity, addiction, and true possession.
