Now, Scorsese has taken a moment to hype up another horror film, and this time it was The Witch, The Lighthouse, and The Northman writer/director Robert Eggers‘ remake of F.W. Murnau’s 1922 silent classic Nosferatu.

An unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, the original Nosferatu has the following synopsis: In this highly influential silent horror film, the mysterious Count Orlok (Max Schreck) summons Thomas Hutter (Gustav von Wangenheim) to his remote Transylvanian castle in the mountains. The eerie Orlok seeks to buy a house near Hutter and his wife, Ellen (Greta Schroeder). After Orlok reveals his vampire nature, Hutter struggles to escape the castle, knowing that Ellen is in grave danger. Meanwhile Orlok’s servant, Knock (Alexander Granach), prepares for his master to arrive at his new home.

Reese Witherspoon is bringing Elle Woods back to the screen with a Legally Blonde prequel series for Prime Video, and the search for the next Elle is nearly complete. Two young actresses, Lexi Minetree and Madison Wolfe, have emerged as the final contenders for the lead role.

The upcoming series will explore Elle’s high school years, giving fans a glimpse into the life experiences that shaped her before she stepped into Harvard Law. Reese, who is producing the project through her company Hello Sunshine, recently shared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that the audition process has been extensive. “I just love them all so much, and they’re doing such a good job,” she said, referring to the many young actresses who auditioned.

Lexi Minetree and Madison Wolfe have both tested for the role, though no final decision has been made yet. Insiders expect an announcement soon.

Reese Witherspoon is producing a Legally Blonde prequel series for Prime Video and a new report has revealed the two actresses who are finalists for the role of young Elle Woods.

The prequel series will follow Elle’s life before she goes to college and law school. During a recent visit on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Reese opened up about the auditioning process to find the new Elle and how she’s watched “so many tapes.”

“I just love them all so much and they’re doing such a good job,” Reese said about the actresses who have been auditioning.

Exclusive: Amazon MGM Studios and Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine are getting closer to finding the next Elle Woods to lead its upcoming Legally Blonde prequel series.

Lexi Minetree (The Murdaugh Murders) and Madison Wolfe have tested for the role, Deadline has learned. According to inside sources, no decision has been made yet; one is expected soon. Reps for Amazon MGM Studios and Hello Sunshine declined to comment for this story.

The two have emerged as finalists in an extensive casting process that saw dozens of young actresses audition for the potentially star-making part that famously catapulted Witherspoon into the ranks of Hollywood’s A-list after she portrayed the character as an adult in the hit romantic comedy Legally Blonde (2001) and its sequel Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde (2003).

The horror genre is well-regarded in cinema as the closest thing to a guaranteed money-maker there is, at least where non-ip is concerned. Horror movies in general have a built-in fan base who are always willing (if not eager) to go check out the latest supernatural thriller, throwback slasher, zombie flick, or whatever other scares are in store. However, one of the other staples of the genre is its thriftiness — you don't need a huge budget to make an effective and successful horror movie, and that in turn makes it more possible for the movie to be successful at the box office. Although most horror movies turn a healthy profit, you don't tend to see too many reaching the same lofty financial heights as the average multi-million dollar blockbuster.

The closest horror movies come to earning billions of dollars is when they're part of a successful franchise, and sometimes not even then.

Blu-ray.com is reporting that Universal Home Entertainment has announced that not only is Nosferatu getting a 4K Uhd Blu-ray release, but there will be an extended cut of the film as well. The Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray physical media items is scheduled to hit retailers on February 18.

The description reads,

“Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake. Starring Bill Skarsgård, Lily-Rose Depp, Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, and Willem Dafoe.”

The Conjuring film franchise is set to come to an end with the fourth installment, The Conjuring: Last Rites, which Warner Bros. has scheduled for a theatrical release on September 5, 2025 release. A couple months ago, producer James Wan took to social media to share a picture of the chairs meant for franchise stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga on the set of the film, writing, “Always good to see and hang out with old friends. Gonna miss everyone. End of an era.“ Production on the sequel has since wrapped, with Farmiga also posting on Instagram about the end of the time she and Wilson have spent playing the paranormal investigators / married couple Ed and Lorraine Warren.

Murnau’s 1922 silent classic Nosferatu (watch it Here) is set to reach theatres on Wednesday, December 25th – and to celebrate the occasion, Heretic Parfum and Focus Features have teamed up to bring the world a limited edition fragrance that will allow people to smell like “an encounter with an apparition in the cold, damp caves of Count Orlok’s castle.” This fragrance is called Nosferatu Eau de Macabre, and can be purchased through the Heretic Parfum website.

In Janji Darah’s ending, a message on the screen says, “This is a part of my life story.” So I suppose everything I’m about to tell you is based on true events? The film tells the story of Rayhan and Sher, a young married couple who are terrorized in their home just as they’re about to start a family. Sher and Rayhan are hoping to start a family, and they’ve been struggling to do so for a while. At the beginning of the film, Sher learns she’s pregnant, and soon enough, sinister things start to take place in their home. When I talk about The Conjuring 2, I always describe it as “romance-horror,” where romance takes the upper hand; at the end of the day, it’s a love story. However, having seen this one, I think it’s an even more apt label for Janji Darah.

Exclusive: Film Bridge International has picked up international rights to the crime thriller The Man In The White Van, which hits U.S. cinemas on December 13.

Relativity is releasing the flick in the U.S. Film Bridge will be selling the film at the upcoming American Film Market.

2016's The Legend of Tarzan was a critical and commercial failure, even though it had assembled many of the ingredients that could have made it an adventure classic. The movie, which starred Alexander Skarsgrd as Tarzan and Margot Robbie as Jane, was a retelling of the story of the iconic Edgar Rice Burroughs character. Tarzan is a multimedia icon, and his story was adapted to the screen as early as 1918 in the silent film Tarzan of the Apes, with more than four dozen adaptations to follow, including Disney's Oscar-winning 1999 animated movie Tarzan.

The 2016 title is the most recent Tarzan movie to hit the big screen, and its general reception may be one reason that the property has since gone dormant on the big screen for nearly a decade. In addition to most likely failing to turn a profit in theaters, it was excoriated by critics and met with apathy from general audiences.

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will be back one more time in The Conjuring: Last Rites, and we’ve learned that filming on the planned final installment is now underway.

Mia Tomlinson (The Beast Must Die) and Ben Hardy (X-Men: Apocalypse) also star, with Michael Chaves (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, The Nun II) directing.

The Conjuring: Last Rites will release in theaters September 5, 2025.

David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (The Conjuring 2) wrote the screenplay for the fourth movie. Franchise mainstays James Wan and Peter Safran are on board to produce.

The Conjuring films are based on the real-life case files of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga respectively.

In addition to another movie, The Conjuring is also headed to the small screen. A series for Max was originally announced in April 2023, and development continues here in 2024.

The Conjuring film franchise is set to come to an end with the fourth installment, The Conjuring: Last Rites, which Warner Bros. has scheduled for a theatrical release on September 5, 2025 release. We had previously heard that this movie would be filming in the Atlanta, Georgia area, but apparently they’re doing some work across the pond as well, as we also heard that filming was scheduled to take place in London, England from September 10th through October 10th this year. Whatever the schedules and locations may be, The Conjuring: Last Rite is indeed currently in production – which producer James Wan has just proven by sharing an image from the set!

Showing the chairs meant for franchise stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, Wan wrote, “Always good to see and hang out with old friends. Gonna miss everyone. End of an era.“

A while back, Relativity Media picked up the North American distribution rights to director Warren Skeels’ true crime thriller The Man in the White Van from Garrison Film and Legion M, and they’re planning to give the film a theatrical release on December 13th. We’re officially in the “spooky season” portion of the year, the build-up to our favorite holiday, Halloween, and with our 2024 Fall Horror Movie Preview, we’re looking ahead at some of the horror movies we can’t wait to check out in the remaining months of this year. Ready for Halloween? So is Max. The streamer just debuted their month-long Halloween and horror movie celebration, dubbed “No Sleep October,” and we’ve got the full list for your perusal.

There’s a batch of A24 horror movies that includes favorites like “Bodies Bodies Bodies” and “Midsommar” alongside new releases “MaXXXine” and “I Saw the TV Glow.”

Timed to the release of Max’s “Salem’s Lot” adaptation from “Anabelle Comes Home” director Gary Dauberman, which debuts on Oct. 3, Max also has a collection of Stephen King movies, including Tobe Hooper’s 1979 mini-series adaptation, “It” and “It: Chapter Two,” “The Shining” and “Doctor Sleep.”

Max’s October 2024 lineup includes a new adaptation of Stephen King’s bestselling vampire novel Salem’s Lot and the premiere of the eight-episode comedy series The Franchise starring Himesh Patel. Jordin Sparks hosts and Johnny Weir and Terrell Ferguson judge the new competition series Roller Jam debuting on October 10th. And Dylan O’Brien stars in Caddo Lake, a mystery thriller premiering on October 10th.

The streamer’s October calendar of new series and films also includes the documentaries I Am Not A Monster: The Lois Riess Murders, Louder: The Soundtrack of Change, and Breath of Fire. Writer/director M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap starring Josh Hartnett makes its streaming premiere on October 25th, and Maxxxine with Mia Goth debuts on October 18th.
