This film was better then I thought it would be.
the acting is good and they all portray the roles really well,i got into the film.
I would have rated it higher if they made me feel for the characters.

All the people judging and reviewing this negatively seem like those super sensitive types of this pathetic sensitive world we now live in. The movie was good and who cares if she was a Nickelodeon star, who cares about the color of the director's skin. This story is telling an experience that someone went through. It's unique. I was expecting it to be bad, but it's actually good.

I really didn't expect that at all. I expected low budget and bad acting but i gave it a shot and glad I did. A ghetto love story so powerful and realistic that it pulled my heart strings,
Great job.

Make a prequel about Kenny the pimp he was a way better character. In my opinion Kenny made the movie more interesting. I would love to see his story on the Big screen.

Ambitious little film that tries very hard to make it's point, KeKe Palmer step into a role that's out of type and nails it, other than that, it all over the place and leans into exploitation territory with the thin plot, with more time and character development and better story detail it would been much better than it tried to be,I am not going to pick this film apart , it is good late night viewing and not a bad film altogether .

Bit surprised with this one as when I came onto this site, the mainstream critics have mostly panned the film, but I agree with the public who have watched this gritty film. I thought it was a great movie despite how disturbing it could be.
The story following a female pimp, who really knows no other life as she stumbles to manage her life, her lesbian long-term partner and drug addicted mother, as much as all else. It's grim and merciless in its use of language.
These films are not easy views for some. The Deuce similarly struggled with many audiences due to its subject matter, and Pimp is clearly more extreme.
This film doesn't hold back, and that's what I admired about it. Subverts expectations, but for some its real life. Can't hide from that.
Great acting, dialogue and pacing make it intriguing.
For those with a strong stomach, this is a good viewing.

The movie pimp was poorly written and the characters didn't have personality. I feel like they had a vision and it wasn't executed.

Not going to lie, I do love a bleak movie and more than anything this film demonstrated the lack of glamour in the world of pimps hustling to make a buck. Keke Palmer's Wednesday is conflicting and hard to love but she rolls out the part beautifully, Hayley Ramm's long suffering Nikki is also a beautiful character eliciting so much emotion as a girl doing whatever she needs to keep her 'momma' happy and that dream alive. Vanessa Morgan as Destiny is by the numbers and Aunjanue Ellis as Wednesday's mother draws comparisons with Monique's stellar turn in 'Precious'
But the standout for me was Edi Kathegi's amazing run as the unhinged, merciless Psycho Pimp, Kenny! Edi brought some chops.
Whilst this isn't an Oscar winner it deserves a nod for its ambition and its deep characterisations maybe they could have spread that a little further but a good effort nonetheless.

One thing I can say about this movie is that they tried really hard...they really did...the movie is way to short for the plot that they are trying to pull off in 1 hour and 25 minutes...too many characters with a story smashed in...like trying to fit a big foot in a small shoe...and maybe if they didn't try to may KeKe Palmer's character so gangsta and hard it may have been more believable...hmmm...probably not...it would for sure be good for a first date movie because you'd always remember going to see it if it worked out...would definitely be a story to tell and a laugh that would continue to go on...the movie wasn't good or believable...definitely not a "Hustle and Flow"...

Keke is incredible.....what a brilliant performance. Broke my heart to see her character's struggle. she brought her A game and so did the rest of the cast.
I'm blown away by the simplicity yet complexity of the story.
Bravo to the filmmaker!!!! two thumbs up!!!

Didn't like this movie. Of all things African Americans can play we still glorifying the hood life. The acting sucked. Somebody just gave DMX money to get high on. I couldn't finish the movie. The time they took to come up with that they could have done something more positive.

I tried very hard to enjoy this, but it's just not possible. There are a few moments where I became slightly engrossed, just to be torn away by the acting and poor script. Many of the conversations felt so stiff, they might as well have put everyone in different rooms and got them to read from a piece of paper. I turned it off during the final gun fight as I'm pretty sure I could guess what was about to unravel, also, I realised I didn't much care. Do yourself a favour, turn off the TV and go enjoy life for an hour and a half, I'll never claw mine back.

Stop glorifying pimps, drugs, prostitutes, and hoodlife! The only good thing about this movie was the tragic ending! Live by the sword, die by it!
This is a coming of age story based on how hustlers really live their life while they struggle & Keke Palmer played a good part in this role. It was well done & most of the actors were really great. So for all of you thats saying the movie was trash didnt really catch the reality of this movie & to me its one of the best films I will continue to watch. Well done Keke Palmer! Keep it up with your career!

Terrible with stereotypes and unsavory language, the sordid "Pimp" encased modern-day blsxploitaton with an utterly unconvincing lesbian love affair, which was even more unbelievable of every other relationship on screen.

I thought the actors portrayed the characters quite well, the movie sucked you in and leaving me as the viewer not wanting the movie to end. PIMP surpassed all of my idiosyncrasies and shortcomings to what my ideas were as to MALE vs FEMALE PIMP! Keep it up KeKe and the Academy will surely be calling.

They tried to hard with this one, the only parts i liked was the male pimp he was hilarious
KEKE is no go as a pimp or lesbian, she's come a long way from akeelah the bee. like he said "what you wanna do be a male, female, pimp"
Incredible film with incredible performances!!! Keke Palmer is a force of nature! Edi Gathegi and Aunjanue Ellis are profound!! This gem is pure cinema in it's hardest of realities! It gives you a slice of life and a breathe of life at the same time. The writer/director does a brilliant job in telling this authentic tale!! All I can says WOW and bravo!!!!
