Brainless B-Movie So Bad, Nasty and Gory that Becomes Funny

It was strange alright...
It was the movie's cover/poster that initially caught my attention, and it looked very much like a 1980's horror movie. I read the synopsis and then decided to sit down and watch "Night of Something Strange".
And let me just be the first to say that "Night of Something Strange" turned out to be something rather different than what I had expected. So for better or worse? Well, honestly, it was for the latter.
The storyline in "Night of Something Strange" turned out to be rather ridiculous, and it was really difficult to get into the groove of the movie and get immersed into the storyline.
The acting in the movie was actually quite adequate, taking into consideration the budget of the movie and the type of movie that it is. So the acting talents actually did good jobs with the limitations imposed on them.
"Night of Something Strange" certainly had some fun enough moments, but they were outweighed by the inadequacies and lacks that the movie was weighed down by. As such, it wasn't a very memorable or enjoyable movie. And it was quite difficult to take anything in the movie serious.
The special effects in the movie were as to be expected from a movie of this caliber. So don't get your hopes up.
Normally I am a big zombie aficionado, but "Night of Something Strange" just was way too far out there, even for my liking.
My rating of "Night of Something Strange" lands on a less than mediocre 4 out of 10 stars.

Starting to think that the filmmakers encouraged friends to give this movie positive reviews.
Terrible, terrible. The filmmakers didn't take themselves very serious. Which was their greatest flaw. This is what happens when a film is devoid of anything serious; bad decisions are made. There is no sign of serious filmmaking. They weren't serious about casting. They weren't serious about story. They weren't serious about lighting/composition. How can intentional cheesy dialogue be effective when the actor is incapable of delivering the lines? And the cinematography was awful. With zero motivated lighting except to be able to see what is in frame. No redeeming qualities. I am shocked to read any positive reviews for this film. I'm starting to think that the positive reviews were written by friends/family of the filmmakers.
Flushing this one may clog the toilet
The existing reviews seemed so good I decided to give this a try albeit the lame movie premise(zombies with VD?).Big Mistake! Kept waiting for it to get better,no such luck.I have no idea which movie the few previous "positive" comments were about but it could not have been about this one. It wasn't even funny in a corny way.Somewhere between the worst B movie ever and a school film project. With ratings of 10/10 and critiques like"one of the best and funniest horror movies I've ever seen" I don't know which is worse the movie or the blatant fake reviews. Harsh critique I know but I feel I had to get some kind of compensation for 1.5h of time lost. The movie is about zombies spreading through V.D,let this review be your prophylactic and save your senses.

This is just bad.
Wild and entertaining
A morgue janitor decides to rape a female corpse that died from "radiation exposure/STD? - some living cells." Back at home he suffers from groin pain, turns into a zombie, and attacks his partner, rapes her, and rips some of her insides out. She too turns into a zombie and attacks a mail man who also becomes a zombie. The janitor zombie is run over by two guys in a truck and ends up in the truck bed.
Meanwhile seven kids leave for spring break--a couple separately and 5 together. Everyone ends up at some point at some gas station, including the janitor and later at a motel where they are attacked by these sex-crazed zombies.
In addressing the issue, what if zombies were into sex?, Night of Something Strange aims to be extreme, vulgar, gross, adolescent, obscene, nasty, etc. And it succeeds at that. Most horror, even, or especially R-rated, is sanitized to death and boredom. Then there are movies like this one, which relish in being graphic. In addition it's supposed to be a teen comedy so you have all bodily functions and all body parts involved. It's not particularly funny but it does rely heavily on outrageously gross situations the actors and actresses were willing to put themselves in. There are countless nods to horror movies as one can tell from the character names: Jason, Freddy, Christine, Carrie, but also to other great movies like Heat.
I appreciate graphics horror movies, not so much graphic comedies, but Night of Something Strange blends the two well to create surprises and shocking scenes at every turn. You'll be amazed by the stuff they come up with here. So it's an entertaining movie no doubt. And if it's true that the budget was as low as shown on IMDb, then the movie is quite an accomplishment. You can't help but like a movie that's so enthusiastically outrageous.

Gross, stupid, unfunny.
I'd like to preface this review by saying, I love horror movies, I also love black comedies. I grew up with films like Toxic Avenger, Evil Dead II and Dead alive.
With that being said, 'Night of Something Strange' is a terrible movie on all fronts. It isn't a good horror movie, it's a terrible comedy movie, there's no redeeming qualities for this film. It's poorly written, the acting and cinematography are garbage, it's all over the place with it's dialog and writing.
It isn't that I don't like horror movies, it isn't that I don't appreciate gore and ultra violence, it isn't that I don't enjoy dick and fart jokes, the biggest problem is, Night of Something Strange doesn't do ANY OF THAT WELL.

Campy, gory, disgusting fun
I think the movie is exactly what it set out to be: a completely over the top gory comedy, a zombie movie inspired by the likes of Army of Darkness and Cooties and Braindead and Zombeavers. I mean, it starts with a necrophiliac who gets infected from a corpse and proceeds to turn and rape his mother. It only gets more disgusting from there.
Overall it was fun, but you've got to be in the mood. It's not for everybody and if you think your girlfriend could watch this with you, you are probably wrong. It's nothing really special, but it was original and fresh.

Terrible, Not worth the watch!
I wanted to watch this based solely on the title alone. I went into this film with a low expectation and even then I was left disappointed. I have only ever switched off one movie in my life, this came very close to being the second.
The basis of the movie sounded quirky enough, and with an STD involved you have to expect some sex or nudity to be involved, but this is just a whole other level of BAD. I expected something along the lines of 'Teeth', 'Ash vs Evil Dead', 'Even lambs have teeth'or even 'It Follows' with a slightly camp edge. How-ever the delivery is like something out of a high-school dick and fart movie. The jokes are cheap, and the 'comedy' is crass.
If you took the overcharged sexual highs of American Pie, the awkward cringe of Inbetweeners, and the OTT gross out comedy horror of early Peter Jackson. Cram it all together and remove any sense of direction, intellect or heart and you have this movie.
The movie only JUST begins to pick up, right before it ends leaving you feeling disappointed and cheated.

stupidity, gore, humour and dedication to the genre
Not knowing what to expect from this one I saw it was supposed to be a funny horror. Funny horrors mostly doesn't work out but there are exceptions like this one.
Let me be straight, this is a no-brainer. Just sit and enjoy. For some people this will be over the top because it's all about teens eager to have sex and terribly going wrong but you will see if you watching this flick. The flick starts immediately with pure horror and before you know it you are into a funny ride full of gore gore ,a bit of nudity and gore.
I can't spoil what is going on but it all starts with necrophilia. From there on the virus is on his way to conquer the world.
And just when you think that this flick is falling down on humour when a guy is having sex in the dark with his girlfriend, you're in for another ride of...well, just pick this up if you do like for example Tucker And Dale (2010) or the Ash vs Evil Dead series.
I enjoyed it a lot and had a smile throughout the whole flick.
Gore 3/5 Nudity 1,5/5 Effects 4/5 Story 2/5 Comedy 2/5

Absolutely, totally original...bloody, gory, sick fun.
There are some very good reviews here, so I'll keep it short.
This is one of the most unique horror films I've seen in a very long time. Come to think about it, I can't recall a single film with the same plot. Many that deal with viruses, loads that deal with zombies, a handful about STD's, but not a single one that combines them all. The utter zaniness on display is, well, crazy, and while the intent is to garner laughs, the scenes are not done in a comical way. Every piece of filth seen is done in a way that exudes 100% seriousness...and that's one of the charms of this film.
Aside from the plot, the most impressive aspect of this film is just how wrong it is. Did you see that horror movie called "Teeth?" Well, if you did see it, it has NOTHING on this. The ample magnitude of said wrongness is far and away more so than nearly anything I've seen recently. There are a couple really twisted films out there (eg Headless, August, etc) but they're done in a pure horror vein, whereas this is done from an ironic point. Combine these pieces together and it's one heck of a romp.
A few comments on characteristics:
Notes on content:
If the above peaks your interest in the film then you will likely enjoy it. If you're on the fence about it, or less, then my guess is it's not for you.

A few comments on characteristics:
- everything in this film is as it's supposed to be. A few reviews comment on crappy acting, or lame directing, but for my money, the director and actors did exactly as the movie demanded in order to balance the ironic horror being presented.
- cinematography would probably fall in the same category, although the scenery is of the most basic sort without much call for anything other than filming what is going on. That said, it does the trick.
Notes on content:
- I don't recall whether this is rated R or Unrated, but it certainly should be the latter. The content is 100% adult and not meant for kids in any way, shape, or form. I don't think zombie movies are problematic for some kids to watch, but the sheer amount of sexual content and nudity in this film, not to mention the general plot, is for adults only.
- a decent amount of profanity. One might even say gratuitous in nature. This includes everything Carlin said can't be said as well as several more.
- I don't know that anything in this film could be considered "intense" or scary. So much of it is tongue in cheek or ironic in nature that it's hard to take some of the "surprises" in such a serious way that they could be considered intense.
- this film is really bloody, has a pretty hefty amount of gore, and some straight up twisted grossness. Nothing that would necessarily make you vomit, but there were a couple of instances when I thought "omg...that's so wrong, and totally disgusting...I love it." While the fx aren't perfect, they're more than adequate; most are practical but there are a few examples of cgi. All in all, this is not a film for casual horror fans or for fans who can't deal with blood. In fact, this film is really only for those of us who are twisted enough to love exploitative sex, gore, and violence.
If the above peaks your interest in the film then you will likely enjoy it. If you're on the fence about it, or less, then my guess is it's not for you.

The Movie Does it's Job- It'll Disgust You.
I give this movie credit for one thing: It makes a promise and delivers on it. It'll turn your stomach a dozen times over. It'll make your eyes feel as violated as the characters.
That said, there's really no reason to watch this aside from the gross-out style. The acting is beyond atrocious. You'd find more talent in Sharknado 5. The story is nonsensical, but let's be honest, that's not why you'd consider watching this in the first place.
The vast majority of the humor is great for middle-schoolers and some adults who never grew up. There's some passable humor in one or two scenes, but overall, it's nowhere near enough to save this disaster of a movie.
Some people like watching movies about a guy eating bloody tampons and banging corpses. For the rest of us, we will steer far away from this garbage.
2/10 for the fact that this film knows what it is and doesn't try to promise anything different.

Possibly the worst movie I have seen in a long long time
I have still not fully digested how bad this movie was... billed as a comedy horror it was neither scary nor funny, but instead resides somewhere in between the realms of pathetic and sad. The best part of this ridiculous waste of time and money was the relief at seeing the credits role at the end...

Complete pile of garbage!
I will waste not one more word then necessary on this piece of crap film.
My summary essentially sums up the movie as a whole....
It's so blatantly obvious the morons who have given this film a 3 or above, let alone 9 and 10 out of 10 ratings are directly connected to the making of this film, are related to the film maker (who I won't bother to mention as the person deserves less then the credit of even mentioning their name) or are paid to rate the film. IMDb is an awesome tool to gauge the quality (or lack thereof), temperature, style and merits of any film in its vast data base, but, IMO, must weed out those who clearly are on the proverbial "payroll" of all involved by positive ratings for their own agenda.
Of the many film Genra's I enjoy, Horror is among the top three and I am not adverse to films considered to be "out there" or even devoid of a solid plot. That said, this waste of time film is nothing less then putrid. In every way imaginable. Even for its "shock value" scenes which are so terribly acted, filmed, directed and set to music fit for "C" level films, it's up there among one of the top three worst movies I've ever seen. And I've seen 1000+ films over the past 35 years.
Please IMDb, figure out a way to vet your user reviews as to not waste people's money or more importantly, time, as a potential viewer relies on the user reviews more so then professional critics. I believe the public tends to be much more fair and honest when reviewing a film. We have no agenda, nothing to gain by writing a review other then to help others in deciding whether or not to view a film by Championing said film or Dead-Panning it.
As for me, and I have reviewed many films on this site as well as have much experience in film viewing, if I could give this film a -10, I would.
Horror fans, run for your lives! Or, at least away from your TV screen.

Not everyone should be an actor
I get that this was supposed to be campy and gory but was the horrible also acting part of it? Either all the kids in this movie won a contest or they were
Non union and were willing to take $50 bucks and an credit. I appreciate low budget movies but this was a straight up an insult to film and acting in general. The director/writer should be working in real estate not making movies.
Just what the doctor ordered
You have to like B style movies to appreciate this flick. It was hilarious throughout the whole movie. The practical effects with minimal CG effects gives this a bump up in stars for me. While there was some fill in with CG, it was done tastefully. I loved the story, it was outrageous, funny, and entertaining. If there was more boob action it would have been the perfect B style movie. The only real complaint I had was the overdub of audio, I don't know what they did, but it sounded as if the audio was rerecorded. This is defiantly going on my list of best B movies of 2016. Just be prepared for outrageous, campy fun!
Always read the label.
Morgue janitor Cornelius (Wayne W. Johnson) doesn't read the toe tags
if he did, then he probably wouldn't have climbed on board a Jane Doe for a spot of necro-nookie: according to the girl's label, she either died of radiation exposure or an unknown STD. Either way, it's bad news for Cornelius, who turns into a manky zombie rapist who quickly spreads his infection to his wife, who in turn spreads the infection to her mailman, who proceeds to transmit the disease to a gas station attendant. Before long, there are sex mad zombies all over the place—bad news for a group of teenagers who stop for the night at a nearby motel on their way to spring break.
I've been known to enjoy very low-brow movies in the past, but Night of Something Strange takes puerile vulgarity and crass horror to a whole new level, so much so that I actually felt embarrassed for those taking part—not just because the actors are required to perform lurid acts that are above and beyond the call of duty, but because the finished product just isn't amusing enough to make their debasement worthwhile. Used tampon eating, a fart-in-the-face gag that involves follow through, a masturbation scene, accidental male-on-male butt sex (the film's absolute nadir, which is preceded by some rimming), a tidal wave of zombie ejaculate, and mutated genitalia: just some of the outrageousness on offer that I found too tasteless and moronic to tickle my funny bone.

Loathsome and despicable, if that's what you're looking for
...but sometimes that's just what you're in the mood for.
Sure it's not the only movie to feature violence (both sexual and non-sexual), gore, nudity, potty humor, high school role-tropes, racial stereotypes, and casual misogyny in huge quantities, but "Night of Something Strange" does feature them in a fairly balanced ratio.
I wouldn't say it handles any of these themes (or anything, really) "gracefully" but the rest of the movie is a lot less offensive than the first 15-or-so minutes would suggest.
Actually I take that back. This thing gets so much weirder and more violent as it approaches its climax.

A Goregound Delight, one of the best ever
Just watched "Night of Something Strange (2016)", and it is one of the best, without a doubt, gorehound delights I have seen.
It has it all, std infected zombies, that don't even die shooting them in the head, you have to destroy their penises or vaginas to do the job.
This extreme, very extreme and extremely funny, over the line gore and bloody extravaganzas will make you cream your jeans, it is that good.
For gorehounds, this is absolutely a must see, you will not be sorry.
my rating, very rare, is 9/10
Don't miss this one, it deserves you gorehound's attention, asap.

Worst movie I seen in a while
The writers need to be taken out back. The black guy was the worst character I ever seen in a movie. One guy tell that a overweight male is not his girlfriend.

Beginning left a bad impression but it picks up by the end
Man this movie is gross. Its got the most grossout scenes I have seen in a movie. I do not like the zombie genre so I have a bit of a bias. If you have the stomach and a love of zombies you are definately going to enjoy this. The opening his hard to get through in my opinion. One of the characters is such a jerk and it left a bad impression. I did not feel like I wasted my time because I was able to test my tolerance to gross out stuff.

Pretty funny! A must-see for zombie junkies!
It started off a little slow, but the characters are likeable, and there's a pretty good sense of humour throughout.
Some aspects *have never* been done before in zombie universe.
