Roopesh had posted on his Facebook page, “It’s pretty hard to imagine how a masterpiece turned into a piece.” Not happy with this comment, the makers of Richie have filed a complaint against him at the Kerala Producers Association. And in retaliation, Roopesh Peethambaran has threatened legal action against everyone who has tarnished his image, including Vinod Shornur, Anand Payyanur, Nivin Pauly and some media outlets. In a report published by the Times of India, he had reportedly said, “I will be moving the court and seeking damages for tarnishing my image. It will be against the media outlets as well as Vinod Shornur, Anand Payyanur and Nivin Pauly.” It may be mentioned here that Roopesh had apologised for his post but the producers of the film decided to take the matter to the Producers Council following a drop in the box office collections attributed to his negative comments. His Facebook post later read, “I realize that impulsive reaction was a mistake which hurt a lot of people. That was never my intention. I apologise for the pain I may have caused due to this. I am sorry.” Directed by Gautham Ramachandran, the film is the remake of the Kannada hit movie, Ulidavaru Kandanthe, written and directed Rakshit Shetty. On this decision, the co-producer of Richie, said, “We wanted to respect the director's vision and that's why the Malayalam version was held back initially. Since the release of the Malayalam version, we have been getting good reports and there were people who have watched Malayalam and Tamil.” It may be mentioned here that Nivin Pauly was seen in the 2013 film Neram, which was a bilingual released in Tamil as well as Malayalam. He then went on to act in a segment in Aviyal as well. Hemalkasa to close London Indian Film Festival
The 2014 London Indian Film Festival, that will be held from July 10-17, unveiled its lineup. While Jeffrey Brown’s Sold will open the festival, Marathi-language film Hemalkasa directed by Samruddhi Porey will be screened as the closing film.
Featuring Nana Patekar, Sonali Kulkarni and Mohan Agashe; the film is a biopic that follows the selfless journey of Dr. Prakash Baba Amte and his wife Dr. Mandakini Amte, a couple who dedicated their lives to a project for the development of tribal people of Maharashtra. This is the world premiere of Hemalkasa.
Praveen Morchhale’s Barefoot to Goa, Amit V Masurkar’s Sulemani Keeda, Shilpa Ranade’s Goopi Gawaiiya Bagha Bajaiiya, Anup Singh’s Qissa, Kaushik Ganguly’s Apur Panchali and Kr Manoj’s Virgin Talkies are some of the well-known films that will be screened at the festival.
