The star of the original cult classic Suspiria reveals how she came to star in the newly released remake.
Sometimes all it takes is one movie to immortalize an actor or actress for all time, and in the case of Jessica Harper, she has two: her 1974 screen debut in Brian De Palma’s cult classic, Phantom of the Paradise, and her lead role as dancer Suzy Bannion in Italian horror auteur Dario Argento’s 1977 genre classic, Suspiria.
Harper has a solid legacy of other work behind her as well, including roles in movies such as Stardust Memories, My Favorite Year and Safe, plus appearances on TV series like It’s Garry Shandling’s Show, Tales from the Crypt and Crossing Jordan. She’s also written a dozen children’s books and recorded seven albums of children’s music. But to a certain audience, she’ll always be...

Actor, writer and director Rajat Kapoor is the latest star caught up in the wave of #MeToo allegations sweeping the Indian biz.
The Monsoon Wedding star, who had a supporting role in ITV series The Good Karma Hospital, has taken to Twitter to apologize following allegations from multiple women of improper conduct. Among complainants is a journalist who says that during a 2007 interview Kapoor badgered her with questions such as “Are you as sexy as you sound?” and “Tell me your vital stats.”
“I am sorry from the bottom of my heart – and sad that I was the cause of this hurt to another human being,” Kapoor said on the social media platform.

Few topics in video game circles elicit more groans than the debate about whether games should be considered artworks. Advocates for games want to see them garner the same cultural recognition as books, films, or paintings, and use “art” as shorthand for achieving that status. But in the rush to declare “Super Mario Bros.” a great work of art, we may be skipping over the intricacies of both how artists who may or may not think of themselves as game developers are using games in their work and how less mechanical “interactions” in and around games construct a complicated cultural significance for the still young artform.
The Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago’s new exhibition, “I Was Raised on the Internet” isn’t a video game art show, and yet the concept and impact of games are all over the place. “In broad terms, this exhibition is about how the...

The same statement has often been made about any other art that dared be approached by cinema. A strange suspicion arises once a film tackles art. The hunt for Kabir Khan's next leading lady opposite Hrithik Roshan is still on. Earlier, there were reports that Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif are being considered for this role but nothing was certain. On Wednesday as Kabir Khan descended from a vehicle at the Karachi airport to board his flight back to Mumbai after attending a conference, a mob descended on him hurling angry invectives and displaying scarily aggressive behaviour including taunting the director with a shoe. Kabir remained admirably calm throughout the attack. The video showing the whole ugly inhospitable incident has gone viral. The question now is, should we take this latest attack on India lying down? Subhash K Jha spoke to Kabir Khan hours after he touched down in Mumbai. Kabir, are you all right? (Laughs uneasily) I am fine. I guess you've seen the video. I was hoping and praying that those jokers would not release the video. Now, this is exactly what they wanted. Forget what they wanted. What on earth were they thinking when they attacked you so suddenly at the airport? I've no clue. But they...

Sajid Nadiadwala stays on to be an ultra-busy man. His Baaghi is set for release in less than a week from now. On the other hand the promotion of Housefull 3 has kick-started as well. No wonder, next few months would be quite engaged for the man who has close to half a dozen films lined up in different stages of production.

This Friday, there is no mainstream commercial Hindi film release. X: Past is Present is the sole release of the week and it is an experimental affair with 10 directors shooting it while utilizing an elaborate cast. Though there are names like Rajat Kapoor, Huma Qureshi, Radhika Apte, Swara Bhaskar and Anshuman Jha featuring in there, surprisingly the promotion has been near to zilch. Furthermore, there would be very limited release of the film in select pockets, which makes its box office prospects entirely dependent upon word of mouth.
All of this means that Tamasha is now the most awaited film of the season. The Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone starrer carries a distinct appeal and given the hype around the two young stars, one is rest assured that youth would be pretty much enticed to give it a dekko. It was way back in 2006 when Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar starrer Jaan-e-Mann had released. A well made film, it couldn’t cover much distance due to its heads-on clash with Shahrukh Khan’s Don. This was the last time when producer Sajid Nadiadwala went home disappointed.
9 years, 10 films and around 800 crore at the Box Office later, he is enjoying a golden run, what with each of his subsequent films tuning out to be a good commercial success. Now one looks forward to his next release Tamasha making it 11 in a row.
Comments a trade source, “It has been a dream outing for Sajid. Period. Just look at the films he has put together in these years. With Heyy Babyy, Housefull and Housefull 2, he made three clean hits with Akshay Kumar and director Sajid Khan. In fact Akshay also enjoyed his biggest opening of that time with Kambakkth Ishq.

Kabir Khan, easily one of the hottest directors on the scene today, is all set to begin work on his next biggie. He has signed his next film with Eros International which is expected to go on floors next year. Confirms our source, "After the all time blockbuster success of Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Kabir is easily amongst the top 5 directors of the country today. His success rate has been quite phenomenal as he is the only one other than Rajkumar Hirani (Pk, 3 Idiots) to have given a triple century (Bajrangi Bhaijaan) and a double century (well, almost, as Ek Tha Tiger had done 199 crores). His next movie had to be special as well." During the last couple of years, Kabir Khan hadn't signed any new film as he was concentrating entirely on Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Phantom. With both films seeing almost back to back releases this year, he is now beginning...

The year 2015 has been one of mixed proportions for Bollywood especially in terms of box office collections, while on one hand we have seen some rather unconventional films striking a chord with the audience and making it big at the Bo, there have been other that were expected to do well, but for some reason failed to hit the mark. However, Sajid Nadiadwala's recent release Phantom featuring Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif, despite the initial sluggish start has managed to hit the bullseye. In fact, Phantom managed to amass Rs. 33.18 crores (Friday Rs.8.46 cr, Saturday Rs. 12.78 cr, Sunday Rs. 11.94 cr) over its opening weekend a feat that was said to be a rather farfetched task by many a trade analysts. However the overall hype surrounding the film, the director's recent success with Bajrangi Bhaijaan, the rather patriotic feel to the film and most of all the producer's hit...

Kabir Khan’s pacy film about an army officer sent to flush out the killers of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks is a reckless yet revealing piece of pulp fiction
Just as 9/11 gave rise, after an appropriate mourning period, to a decade of soul- and cave-searching in American cinema, so the spectre of the 26/11 attacks on Mumbai in 2008 seems likely to hover over Indian cinema for the foreseeable future. Already we’ve had 2013’s Greengrassy docudrama The Attacks of 26/11, the veteran Ram Gopal Varma’s sober recounting of these events from the perspective of Rakesh Maria, the Mumbai chief of police. There now arrives Phantom, Kabir Khan’s adaptation of Hussain Zaidi’s speculative fiction Mumbai Avengers, which owes more to the 24/Homeland school of counterterrorism, vacillating as it does between pulpy pertinence and arrant wish-fulfilment.
Objections have already been lodged by both Médecins Sans Frontières and the suspected Pakistani terrorist Hafiz Saeed,...

It was predicted in this column last week that Phantom would take an opening in the same range as Badlapur (7 crore) and Drishyam (8 crore). As it turned out though, the Kabir Khan directed film had a slightly better Friday, as it went on to bring in 8.5 crore at the Box Office. This was indeed a positive outcome for Saif Ali Khan since his last couple of solo starrers, Happy Ending (4 crore) and Bullett Raja (7.5 crore) had met with a poor fate. In comparison, the word of mouth as well as critical appreciation was better as well, which helped the Sajid Nadiadwala production grow further over the weekend.
This was evidenced in collections that jumped further on Saturday (12.78 crore), which was also a holiday due to Raksha Bandhan, and then Sunday (13 crore*), as a result of which Phantom managed to bring in around 34 crore. Now this is a heartening sign for...

A pacy grace envelopes Kabir Khan’s new political thriller. You can almost smell the tension in the air. If Bajrangi Bhaijaan was a agreeable gentle cup of lemon tea Phantom is a the bracing percolating morning cup of coffee that makes you jump out of your bed and seize the day.
Kabir’s second film in six weeks after the epic success of Bajrangi Bhaijaan takes an aggressive what-if stand against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. It does so with a cool candour that makes for a bracing jolting wake-up call for the two nations at a proxy war rattling sabres across the barbed fence.
Phantom works on a simple premise. You give us 26/11. We take revenge. As simple as that. In many ways the very talented Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub playing a raw Raw agent (no, I am not stammering) represents the voice of the nation. His inexperience among veterans who plot...

Phantom proves that Kabir Khan is the best action movie director we have. When asked about the challenges of shooting the action sequences in Phantom, he says, “The Film is has been shot all over the world right from Beirut, Canada, Chicago, Punjab and Kashmir.”
Beirut Action sequence: While shooting in Beirut, director Kabir Khan was aware that shooting in these strife-torn locations would be a sensitive matter. The shooting was on a huge refugee camp created on the Syria- Lebanon border which was about half-an-hour’s drive from Lebanon which happens to be a Shia Muslim area. There were about 400 locals dressed as rebel soldiers and a movement of about 25 trucks and jeeps for the sequence. Being a massive set-up it attracted a lot of attention. They used real guns for this entire action sequence. The entire action sequence looked so real, that the army thought a real rebellious movement was going on.

Post the Pakistan court's decision to ban Kabir Khan's Phantom on the basis of 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed's allegation against the film that it contains "filthy propaganda" against him and his political outfit, the film's director fears for his life. A source close to Kabir Khan says, "These are not good enemies to have. People who can slaughter scores of people in terror attacks wouldn't think twice about harming someone who they believe to be harming their interests. We are concerned about Kabir's welfare. And we wish our government would provide him security." Kabir Khan says more than him his wife Mini Mathur is worried. "Thanks to Hafiz Saeed, the world press has descended on me. I just hope my life is not under threat. My wife is genuinely nervous. I hope my country will protect me." In the meanwhile, Sajid Nadiadwala the producer of Phantom has expressed concern over...

Part of an actors job is to promote their movie be it in special events, on television or at a press junket. For their thriller, Phantom, the beautiful Katrina Kaif and the suave Saif Ali Khan made an appearance on Indian Idol Junior.
During the show both the stars enthusiastically took part. Did you know that Saif Ali Khan can sing? Well, he can and sung a medley of his hits. How cool is that? Plus, and this maybe even cooler the actor played the title track to Race on guitar on the sets of the show.
Katrina Kaif also thrilled the audience, the judges and the contestants by performing some amazing dance moves on the stage to the beat of some of her best numbers.
One of the best things was that it was Saif’s birthday and so a cake was brought out and of course a song was sung in celebration!

Pritam continues to bask in the success of his hit music in Kabir Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan, it seems like the much-in-demand music director has more aces coming up his sleeve in Kabir’s next film, Phantom, as well. Sung by Asrar (Syed Asrar Shah), Pritam’s Afghan Jalebi (Ya Baba) from the film that stars Katrina Kaif and Saif Ali Khan, is already creating waves in the music circuit. The song is steadily climbing the music charts and Pritam couldn’t be happier.
He says, “It’s a very peppy track and I am happy that it’s catching up!”

A fabulous birthday party was held for Saif Ali Khan, who turned 45 on August 16th. While wife Kareena Kapoor Khan was obviously there, the couple were joined by Saif’s son, the grown up and oh so handsome Ibrahim, Saif’s sister Soha Ali Khan, Soha’s spouse Kunal Khemu, sister-in-law Karishma Kapoor, Malaika Arora Khan, Amrita Arora, Arbaaz Khan and many more guests. From what we hear and see an amazing time was had by all.
Karishma and Amrita shared photographs of the gathering at their social media accounts. One of our favorites is the very adorable picture of Saif Ali Khan giving Karishma Kapoor a peck on her cheek. Karishma kapoor uploaded that picture on Instagram with the caption ‘therealkarismakapoor Birthday Boy !#family#friends#love’
Saif will next be seen in the dramatic thriller Phantom with co-star Katrina Kaif which is set to release on 28th August 2015.

Director Kabir Khan is back with his second release of the year, Phantom, which centers around espionage and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks with Katrina Kaif and Saif Ali Khan in lead roles. Ensuring that the film is success is crucial, and this time there’s no Salman to help, so he’s recruited Pritam for the music.
To start off with we have Afghan Jalebi, which is the sure-fire hit song to get people hooked and while that’s a good strategy, there is really no need for four versions, which take more than half of the soundtrack with two additional songs to cover the bases. Let’s take a look at each one.
From the outset, Afghan Jalebi (Ya Baba) hooks you in with the fun guitar riff and clapping that will pepper this track throughout. Yet, it’s singer Asrar’s energetic vocals that make this original version worth singing along to,...

Katrina Kaif, who last performed stunts in Dhoom 3, will be seen in an action packed avatar in the upcoming Kabir Khan directorial Phantom. From what we hear, the actress will be seen in the role of a Parsi girl in the film. Katrina Kaif, who has previously played the role of a dancer, Raw agent and so on, will be seen playing a London based aid worker. Apparently, her role in Phantom has been inspired from real life aid workers with whom Kabir has interacted during his days as a documentary filmmaker. It is being said that Katrina gets involved in the mission after she has been sent by the aid organization to seek revenge from the ones who are responsible for the 26/11 attacks. Phantom, that stars Saif Ali Khan as the male lead, is based on the consequences post the infamous 26/11 attacks in Mumbai wherein a highly skilled team...

Kabir Khan is not surprised with media reports around Jamat-ud-Dawah Chief Hafiz Saeed filing a petition in the Lahore High Court where he is seeking a ban on the release of Phantom in Pakistan. While the Chief is alleging that the Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer contains 'filthy propaganda' against his country, Kabir believes that such reactions are on expected lines and he wouldn't have expected better. "That's natural, isn't it," says Kabir, "When a film is made on the theme of 26/11 then they are bound to get uncomfortable. Currently, on a daily basis there are so many debates that are happening on the national television around relationship between India and Pakistan. Obviously the organizations involved in all the terror news making the rounds are not going to be happy with a film like Phantom releasing in Pakistan. Given a choice, they wouldn't want to be in that uncomfortable space.

A lot is being said about the upcoming Saif Ali Khan - Katrina Kaif starrer political action thriller Phantom. In fact ever since the launch of its first look posters a couple of days back, social networks have been buzzing about the film. Now we hear that Kabir Khan's next will also feature late star Dev Anand's niece Sohaila Kapur who is also Shekhar Kapur's sister. Confirming the same, Sohaila stated that she will be seen playing the role of a Pakistani window whose teenage son has been kidnaped by terrorists and is being trained to become one. However despite the limited scope of her character, we also hear that it will most definitely not be a blink and miss role, instead Sohaila's role is a rather integral part of the climax. Interestingly the journalist turned actress Sohaila who was seen in Govind Nihalani's 1991 National Award...

Yes, Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif get blindfolded, and not only that - they get blindfolded by what seems like the Indian national flag (as can be seen from the tricolor saffron, white and green).
Before you make any further speculations, let us tell you that this is the first, rough poster of Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif from Kabir Khan's upcoming movie Phantom. But somehow we think that the posters are inspired from a game named 'Homefront' (as you can see in the image).
Phantom, which seems to be based on the after-effects of 26/11 Mumbai attacks, has an interesting tagline in the first look - A story you wish were true.
Now we only wonder what Kabir Khan's story would be! But all we can say is that Phantom will be an interesting watch, especially after watching his lately released Bajrangi Bhaijaan!

Kabir Khan, who has been missing his appointment with the censor board repeatedly, has just got his next film Phantom certified by the Censor Board Of Film Certification (Cbfc) with a 'UA' certificate ...The screening of the film was greeted with applause. This is a very rare occurrence." This is Kabir's second film in two weeks to be certified a 'UA' by the censor board. Though it's been a while since we spotted the nawab Saif Ali Khan on the silver screen, the actor is now gearing up for a few releases including Sajid Nadiadwala's Phantom opposite Katrina Kaif. On the other hand, Saif has also signed a few other films which include Sameer Sharma's directorial Jugalbandi. Now we hear that it is Jacqueline Fernandez who has been paired opposite Saif Ali Khan in this upcoming musical. While Jacqueline and Saif Ali Khan have previously shared screen space in Race 2, this is the first time that the two will be romantically paired opposite each other. In Jugalbandi, Saif Ali Khan is said to play the role of a music agent. However, speculations were that Saif Ali Khan's fan and actress Parineeti Chopra was being considered for the role too.

Is Kabir Khan's Phantom, the big espionage thriller scheduled to be released on August 28 going to miss its release appointment? The buzz is that director Kabir Khan immersed in the marketing and publicity of his big Eid release Bajrangi Bhaijaan has not been able to devote as much time to the post-production work of Phantom as he would have liked to. According to sources in the censor board the film has already missed two appointments for certification. "They reserved a time for the screening of Phantom twice but didn't show up. They are not ready with the film as yet," says a source from the censor board. However director Kabir Khan shoots down all delay rumours. "Phantom is locked in for August 28. Everything is under control." Phantom is crucial for Saif Ali Khan's career as he hasn't had a success in recent times.
