Where does the time go? It feels like only yesterday that Taskmaster’s series 17 contestants first appeared in the studio, shakily establishing their pecking order, testing out their rudeness vs sucking-up strategy when it came to Lord Greg Davies, and shifting nervously in their seats as they wondered which of their psychological breakdowns had made the edit. Now, they’ve all grown-up and left home, leaving five empty chairs waiting for the next set of bums to warm them.
Those bums, and the comedians attached to them, have now been officially announced. Competing for the head of the Taskmaster in series 18 will be: Andy Zaltzman, Babatunde Aléshé, Emma Sidi, Jack Dee and Rosie Jones.
Here’s a little bit of info about each of them.

Characters from Twenty Twelve and W1A will reportedly return in a spin-off centred around FIFA. Here are the details.
Sarah Parish, who played Anna Rampton in the original comedy series W1A, has revealed on That Gaby Roslin Podcast that a spin-off show based on the FIFA international football association. was in the works. She also revealed that W1A co-star Hugh Bonneville would be reprising his role.
Though Parish said the show was being written according to the British Comedy Guide, she said she would not be in it, but that she suspected Hynes would return. There has been no official confirmation from the BBC, but it would fit with the previous series precedent of writing a comedy about a real forthcoming event, in this case the FIFA World Cup in 2026.

Doctor Who’s Ncuti Gatwa and W1A’s Hugh Skinner will star in a National Theatre revival of Oscar Wilde’s play about courtships, betrothals, and confused identities. The Importance of Being Earnest also stars three-time Olivier Award winner Sharon D. Clarke playing the imperious Lady Bracknell.
Director Max Webster, making his Nt debut, told Deadline exclusively that casting Gatwa and Skinner as the idle bachelors Algernon Moncrieff and Jack Worthing -both leading double lives – who pursue two young women, both determined to marry someone called Ernest, and with Clarke as the dreadnaught dowager decreeing her own rules of class, taste, and propriety, was “a dream come true.”

Will Sharpe, who endeared himself to audiences on “The White Lotus,” is directing a feature film adaptation of Michelle Zauner’s 2021 memoir “Crying in H Mart.”
Zauner’s novel centers around her relationship with her Korean heritage and her mother, who died from cancer in 2014. Best known as the frontwoman for indie-pop band Japanese Breakfast, Zauner is adapting the screenplay and will also play a part in the film’s music.
According to the official synopsis from MGM, which is backing the movie, “Crying in H Mart” is a “coming-of age story about a half-Korean daughter who returns to small town Oregon to care for her Korean mother. Critical and smothering Chong-mi and creative and independent Michelle struggle to understand each other across a cultural fault line, only learning to see and accept one another through the formative power of music and the vibrant flavors of Korean cooking.”

Neil Forsyth’s The Gold is a true crime drama with a distinctive perspective. As much as it’s about the cat-and-mouse chase between the robbers of £26 million’s worth of gold bullion in November 1983, and the special task force trying to catch them, it’s also about the British class system. Over six episodes (airing weekly on BBC One and available as a box-set on BBC iPlayer), Forsyth tells a story about villains on both sides of the social divide and the entrenched systems protecting those at the top. His London is just as veined with establishment corruption, freemasonry and snobbery as it is with armed robbers, hooky fences and locals who keep their mouths shut for fear of reprisal.
The ensemble drama covers the period from the 1983 robbery, then the largest gold heist in British history, to the investigation and sentencing of select ring leaders. The story, as the newspapers show,...

‘Bridgerton’ star Jonathan Bailey has joined the cast of Showtime’s upcoming limited series ‘Fellow Travellers.’
Bailey will join Matt Bomer and Allison Williams in the show based on the novel of the same name by Thomas Mallon.
The series follows the handsome and charismatic Hawkins Fuller (Bomer), avoiding emotional entanglements – until he meets Tim Laughlin (Bailey), a young man brimming with idealism and religious faith. They begin a romance just as Joseph McCarthy and Roy Cohn declare war on “subversives and sexual deviants,” initiating one of the darkest periods in 20th-century American history. Over the course of four decades, Hawk and Tim cross paths through the Vietnam War protests of the 1960s, the drug-fueled disco hedonism of the 1970s and the AIDS crisis of the 1980s, while facing obstacles in the world and in themselves.

A British version of “Call My Agent!”?!? Mon Dieu! The critically acclaimed French comedy series, set at a Parisian talent agency, now has had a British remake set at an agency in the heart of London’s Soho. Called “Ten Percent” (an English translation of “Call My Agent!’s” original name “Dix Pour Cent”), the original became a hit for the way it explored the often-fractious relationship between agent and talent, a relationship that can have a skyrocketing ego on one side and expectation management and endless anxiety on the other. It also received acclaim for featuring cameos by celebrities from Isabelle Huppert to Sigourney Weaver, who appeared to relish the opportunity to gently mock themselves. It is a tradition that continues in the British version, with cameos by David and Jessica Oyelowo, Emma Corrin, David Harewood and Helena Bonham Carter.

In season one, Viscount Bridgerton was less hero than impediment. The eldest Bridgerton son, he assumed responsibility for the matches of his younger siblings Daphne and Colin, and spent the season throwing his weight around – sometimes literally in the case of the punch-up and dual with Daphne’s suitor Simon. Anthony attempted to control everybody else’s marriage responsibilities while refusing to face up to his own. His mistress Siena Rosso eventually made the decision for him, recognising that an opera singer with her past would never be found respectable enough to become a society Viscountess. Siena moved on, and urged Anthony to do the same.
In season two, Anthony’s search for a wife is centre-stage, making actor Jonathan the romantic lead. It’s not the first time the actor has told a love story in his established stage and screen career, which started in his childhood with the Royal Shakespeare Company,...

French comedy “Call My Agent!” was a domestic hit after it launched on France’s TF1 network in 2015 but it wasn’t until later, when it got picked up by Netflix, that the series about a fictional Parisian talent agency found a global audience.
Christian Baute, whose company Headline Pictures has produced a U.K. version of the series alongside Bron Studios (“Joker”) for Amazon and Sundance Now, spotted the show’s potential during its original broadcast. “I thought, this is brilliant,” he recalls.
Partnering with David Davoli, Bron’s president of television, Baute reached out to the producers of “Call My Agent” as well as TF1, which owns the format, in a bid to snap up the English language rights.

Here are just a few fun facts you should know about the eldest Bridgerton sibling.

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are to produce a sitcom for the BBC starring British comedian Sara Pascoe.
The pair’s Stolen Picture banner, which is backed by Sony Pictures Television is behind the untitled six-part series for BBC Two. It is their latest TV commission since forming the production company, after Deadline revealed that they are adapting Ben Aaronovitch’s fantasy drama Rivers of London.
Pascoe, a well known stand up who starred in BBC comedy W1A, is co-producing the series, which is about family, relationships and biology. She subverts the traditional sitcom format by combining her eccentric characters, surreal moments and factual insight. Pascoe doesn’t know why everyone else in the world is pairing up and having babies and sets out on a mission to understand them. She tries to prove that romantic love is mere chemicals and conditioning and doesn’t deserve our respect. This conflicts...

Killing Eve Season 2 is set for more audacious bloodshed on BBC America.
Killing Eve impressed audiences with its stylistically subversive, thrilling, hilarious and terrifying spy story that also happens to be from a female perspective. BBC America obviously knew it had something special on its hands from the get-go, renewing Killing Eve for a second season before the first season even began airing!
Killing Eve showcases the dark, yet irreverent, rivalry between Sandra Oh’s unassuming MI5 pencil-pusher, Eve Polastri, and Jodie Comer’s psychopathic assassin, Villanelle — and it's been groundbreaking.
Indeed, the inagural season of the series reaped awards season accolades, nabbing a 2019 Golden Globes “Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama” win for Sandra Oh, as well as a “Best Television Series – Drama” nomination. Plus, it earned 2018 Primetime Emmy nominations for “Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series” for Oh, and “Outstanding...

Clare Balding's new Wimbledon highlights show has been met with largely negative reviews since it debuted on Monday (June 29).
Wimbledon 2Day has been criticised by tennis fans on Twitter, while Radio Times called it "a mess, a giddy mix of inane tweets, snippets of matches (let's not forget actual tennis is being played, something, presumably we all want to see, which is why we've tuned in) and a bit of chat."
Much of the criticism has been levelled at the name of the show, and the fact that it's replaced tennis highlights with The One Show-style chat, home videos from viewers and tweets.
The show replaced the long-running Today at Wimbledon series which presented highlights of the day's action for those who may have missed the live matches while at work.
Its second show on Tuesday (June 30) appeared to be slightly tweaked to show more tennis, but viewers were still not best pleased.

Jason Watkins has applauded ITV for having the courage to tackle The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies.
The actor played Jefferies in the true-life drama, about a retired schoolteacher vilified by the press after being falsely accused of murder.
Watkins told Digital Spy that ITV deserved credit for airing a piece of drama that was "not necessarily mainstream" in a primetime slot.
For more from Watkins - including talk of W1A, The Hollow Crown and Trollied - hit play on the video above.
The star was named best Leading Actor at last night's BAFTAs, trumping Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch, Marvellous star Toby Jones and The Missing's James Nesbitt.
The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies was also crowned best Mini-Series, beating out Cilla, Our World War and Prey.

Are overnight ratings all they're cracked up to be? Toast of London star Matt Berry reckons not.
The actor told press including Digital Spy that his sitcom would never have survived if its success were judged solely on overnights.
"It isn't as strong an argument as it used to be, because people watch in their own time," Berry said backstage at last night's (May 10) House of Fraser BAFTA Television Awards.
"That works in our favour - because if Toast were brought back [based] on ratings, it would never be brought back. Hardly anyone watches it, on the night."
Berry was awarded the trophy for best Male Performance in a Comedy Programme last night, beating W1A's Hugh Bonneville, Rev's Tom Hollander and Mrs Brown's Boys star Brendan O'Carroll.
Toast of London - which stars Berry as eccentric actor Steven Toast and is co-written by the star with Arthur Mathews -...

Jessica Hynes has made an impassioned BAFTAs acceptance speech voicing her concern about the impact of cuts and austerity on low-income families.
The W1A actress won the award for Female Performance in a Comedy Programme at tonight's (May 10) BAFTA TV Awards.
"There's something I do want to say... I am from a single-parent family, and my mum was a full-time worker to support me and my sister," said Hynes.
"I'm really worried about the cuts that are coming to state education for people in low-income families. Because I don't think low income means low talent or low education or low intelligence."
Hynes also urged colleagues and viewers to support the work of Arts Emergency, a charity which aims to improve access to the arts for young people from disadvantaged economic backgrounds.
"Without organisations like that, [and the] people who have supported me all the way through my career - thank you, everyone,...
