Around 68 minutes in, the kids are watching a movie on TV. It's the Night of the Living Dead (1968).
The 3am 'Witching Hour' was chosen because in folklore, the witching hour or devil's hour is a time of night that is associated with supernatural events, whereby witches, demons and ghosts are thought to appear and be at their most powerful. Definitions vary, and include the hour immediately after midnight, and the time between 3:00 am and 4:00 am.
In the opening credits, a similar looking golden mask worn by Mordred in Excalibur (1981) seems alike, but are not the one and same; for instance, the centre-front fringes are different. They, by style, colour and design seem to be the one and same, but they are not.
