Wes Craven stated in an interview that MTV should have left the mask alone and let "Ghostface be Ghostface."
Every episode of season two is named after a horror movie.
For all of the scenes where Emma (Willa Fitzgerald) is on the phone talking to the killer on the other line, the voice on the phone was actually one of the assistant directors, who just read the lines in the room. She had no idea what the killer's voice was going to sound like until she watched the final cut.
The killer's mask was originally stated by the producers as being made of flesh, and can vaguely be seen in promotional teasers. After the pilot episode was finished, the mask was digitally altered in the opening scene and certain scenes re-shot to include the white mask used instead.
Riley Marra was named to give an homage to Tatum Riley (Rose McGowan), the main character's best friend from Scream (1996).
