The hot talk of the town, Ana de Armas is all set to make her debut in the John Wick universe with her upcoming Ballerina – a piece that sounds like it could soon have her career skyrocketing even further. Ana de Armas is one of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood at the moment, solely because of the exceptional effort she’s put into her work. It has been a decade since the Cuban actress made her debut in English films, but de Armas has always looked confident with roles since the get-go.

Blade Runner 2049 (2017) and Exposed (2016) were also a few movies that had her act alongside actors like Ryan Gosling and Keanu Reaves. But Knives Out (2019) was definitely what propelled her status in the industry.

Keanu Reeves has had an interesting career since the 90s and has been labeled one of the bonafide action heroes in Hollywood. Instead of the macho, indestructible type of heroes presented by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone, Reeves’s heroes are vulnerable yet are determined to overcome all obstacles.

“Full House” and “Fuller House” creator Jeff Franklin is set to produce a new horror film, “Murder with the Stars.” Craig Shoemaker penned the screenplay and will serve as a producer, with Jonathan Silverman set to direct and act in the movie.
“This concept came to me several months ago, and I knew I was onto something unique and fun,” Shoemaker said. “Since then, the creative process has unfolded effortlessly with two old friends signing on, Jonathan Silverman and Jeff Franklin. It’s a killer team. In the case of this horror film, pun intended.”
“Murder with the Stars” will be created in partnership with Jaclyn and Ike Suri of Pelican Point Media, a film finance and production company, that has produced horror and comedy films like the 2016 thriller “Exposed,” starring Ana de Armas and Keanu Reeves. Silverman is repped by Authentic Talent and Brave Artists, and Shoemaker is repped by Innovative Artists.

ABC‘s The Rookie Season 5 focused on love and Ebola in episode 16, “Exposed.” The hour (which was initially supposed to air on Feb. 14) took place on Valentine’s Day, and every couple on the show faced difficulties in their relationship during the episode. And Wesley Evers and Angela Lopez’s problems stemmed from a new security guard named Charlie in The Rookie.

Fan favorite couple “Chenford,” aka Tim Bradford and Lucy Chen on ABC‘s The Rookie, are headed down a rocky path in an upcoming episode. The two characters started dating halfway through season 5, and ever since, they have been in the honeymoon phase of their relationship. But that might come to an abrupt stop in The Rookie Season 5 Episode 16.

“Chenford” is back in ABC‘s The Rookie! After a Tim and Lucy-less (but thrilling) The Rookie Season 5 Episode 15, the writers are giving the people what they want — a “Chenford” Valentine’s Day. The couple didn’t share any scenes in the previous episode as it focused on (unsuccessfully) taking down Elijah Stone, but The Rookie Season 5 Episode 16 will more than makeup for it.

John Nolan’s love life in ABC‘s The Rookie has been nothing short of a rollercoaster since the pilot. He moved to Los Angeles after divorcing the mother of his son, started a relationship with Lucy Chen, which swiftly ended when they began their training, and he went on to date a couple more women before meeting Bailey Nune. And while Nolan and Bailey are engaged in The Rookie Season 5, the signs point toward another breakup for Nathan Fillion’s character.

February is the shortest month of the year but Prime Video is paying that no mind with its jam-packed list of new releases for February 2023.
This really is an uncommonly stuffed month on the Amazon streamer and it all starts with a handful of Amazon Originals. Amazon’s original offerings kick off with the release of Dave Franco-directed romcom Somebody I Used to Know on Feb. 10. That is followed by Carnival Row season 2 – a gritty fantasy crime drama is set in a world of steampunky fairies. The show stars Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevigne and this batch of episodes will be its swan song. Meanwhile The Consultant on Feb. 24 is a dark comedy workplace thriller starring Christoph Waltz.
The biggest hits this month, however, might just be some recent cinema faves. If February is for lovers, Amazon didn’t get the memo as there are quite a few horror movies of note here.

Scott Sternberg Productions today announced the launch of a new documentary division and the acquisition of Strong Island Films.
The first project under Ssp’s new division, Mötley Crüe’s Vince Neil: My Story, will premiere this Sunday on Reelz. Sternberg directed the documentary in which the lead singer of the legendary heavy metal band, in his own words, “details what led him to music, the formation and early days of Mötley Crüe, surviving his hardest party days and how he navigated the road to superstardom.” Neil and Sternberg are executive producers of the film.
The two-hour doc, featuring interviews with Neil’s son and daughter, as well as bandmates Tommy Lee and Nikki Sixx, and others, takes an “incredibly candid” view of the musician’s “much publicized setbacks — from the heartbreak of losing a young child to being arrested for driving under the influence after causing a crash that killed his friend.

The Islands, a 10-episode drama series, is in the works from BBC alum Stephen McDonogh’s Lone Wolf Pictures, Axel Kuschevatzky, Phin Glynn and Cindy Teperman’s Infinity Hill as well as The Whole Spiel, the company launched last year by former NBC Entertainment Chairman Paul Telegdy and his cousin, Stefan Telegdy.
The series, which is being shopped to networks and streamers, tells the story of the Falklands-Malvinas War of 1982 from the point of view of the people who were there and with the involvement of writers and filmmakers from both UK and Argentina. Writing is already underway, with Argentine film and TV writer Sebastian Rotstein on board.

Truth be told, the human species has always been interested in the dark subject that we now call “true crime.” In the Western mythological canon, the very first story after the creation of man and the Garden of Eden is literally that of a fratricide.
Still, you may have noticed of late that pop culture’s obsession with crimes, those who commit them, and how they are punished has intensified of late. If you want to pinpoint a recent moment in the 21st century where our fascination with true crime intensified, you can probably do a lot worse than 2004’s The Staircase.
The Staircase (titled Soupçons or “Suspicions” in its director’s native French) is a multi-part true crime docuseries that helped paved the way for so many of the other true crime docs we see today. The project began when French filmmaker Jean-Xavier de Lestrade learned of a curious...

Pedro Pascal (“The Mandalorian”) and Ewan McGregor (“Halston”) sat down for a virtual chat for Variety‘s Actors on Actors. For more, click here.
Pedro Pascal plays the helmeted title character in the phenomenon that is Disney Plus’ “The Mandalorian,” and Ewan McGregor is filming the highly anticipated “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series for the streamer, reprising his role from George Lucas’ “Star Wars” prequels. But McGregor — who can currently be seen in Netflix’s “Halston” as the famed designer — and Pascal have points of intersection beyond “Star Wars.” Pascal recounted to McGregor how in 1996, after returning to New York from a summer trip in Spain, the friends who’d picked him up at the airport told him that the first thing he needed to do was watch “Trainspotting.” “And that began my absorption of your entire career,” Pascal said.

“The Trial of the Chicago 7” got a big boost in its bid for Best Editing at the Oscars with a win at the Ace Golden Eddie Awards on April 17. The American Cinema Editors guild, which hands out its awards on April 17, has a good track record as a preview of the Oscar winner for Best Picture (18 out of the last 30) and a great one for forecasting who will win the Film Editing Oscar (22 of the last 30). Not surprisingly, it is also fairly prescient when it comes to predicting the five Film Editing Oscar slots. Four of this year’s Academy Awards nominees contend for this cutting prize; “The Father” was snubbed by the American Cinema Editors.
The Ace Eddie Awards divide their prizes for editing between dramas and comedies/musicals. The nominations for the 2021 Ace Eddie Awards announced on Thursday (March 11) include our Oscar frontrunner for Best Film Editing, “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” along with three of the other four films we’re predicting to reap bids in that race: “Mank,” “Nomadland” and “Sound of Metal.” While “The Father” was snubbed by the American Cinema Editors we expect it to be the fifth Academy Awards contender.
The Ace Eddie Awards divide their prizes for editing between dramas and comedies/musicals. “Mank,” “Nomadland,” “Sound of Metal and “The Trial of the Chicago 7” contend here in the drama race, which is rounded out by “Minari.” Facing off on the comedy side are “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm,” “I Care a Lot,” “On the Rocks,” “Palm Springs” and “Promising Young Woman.”
