Midway through The Lost City, or possibly even earlier, you may be faintly reminded of an “older” film called Romancing the Stone (1984). Of course, this depends primarily upon your age. If you do, in fact, remember that earlier film starring Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner, and Danny DeVito then you are more than likely not the target audience for this new “sort of” incarnation of the story and any shortcomings found in the film will probably be yours to bear alone as The Lost City proves to be an entertaining piece carried primarily by the likability of the two leads.

The Batman crossed $300 million domestic on Sunday and $600 million worldwide earlier this week, and it will soon fly past the grosses of Batman v Superman ($330 million) and Joker ($335 million) to become the third highest grossing Batman film domestically behind The Dark Knight ($535 million) and The Dark Knight Rises ($448 million). The Robert Pattinson starring reboot doesn’t seem likely to pass Tdkr, but ending up as the biggest non-Nolan Batman film is a nice feather in its cap, as is being the second biggest pandemic-era film. There has been little else going on at the box office this month, but after three weeks of total dominance, The Batman finally faces a formidable box office challenger this weekend.
Though it could be a tight race, we’re expecting Paramount’s star-studded adventure rom-com The Lost City to dethrone the caped crusader for the number one spot, and the studio predicts an opening...

You know studio movies are in a rut when, amid endless Spider-Bat sequels, you find yourself longing for the likes of such escapist 1980s offerings as “Romancing the Stone” and “King Solomon’s Mines.” I can’t be the only one who’s been craving a good old-fashioned treasure hunt, where the leads throw sparks and the ladies’ makeup never smudges, no matter how close to the volcano they get. After a long stretch without such a big-screen Hollywood adventure movie, “The Lost City” makes for welcome counter-programming.
The story was producer Seth Gordon’s idea, but credit siblings Adam and Aaron Nee (who tested the waters with their Mark Twain-inspired “Band of Robbers”) for sprucing up the formula, while Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum supply the chemistry. Bullock plays brainy romance novelist Loretta Sage, who’s lost her inspiration since the death of her husband, an archaeologist who might have been onto something.

At first glance, “The Lost City” has all the hallmarks of “Romancing the Stone” repackaged for millennials and Zoomers.
We get Sandra Bullock assuming the Kathleen Turner role as a romance novelist who holds the key to the whereabouts of a remote hidden treasure. Daniel Radcliffe steps into the Danny DeVito part, albeit with more urbanity, as the novelist’s ruthless kidnapper with a passing Napoleon complex, who’s seeking said treasure. And Brad Pitt fills in for Michael Douglas as a raffish man of adventure who comes to the novelist’s rescue — though here in a reduced capacity.
That’s a good thing because Channing Tatum is the one who actually shares top billing with Bullock, and his Fabio-esque character is an original creation that helps the new film steer clear of a potential copyright claim.

The live-action feature film adaptation of “Masters of the Universe” has finally anointed its He-Man: rising actor Kyle Allen.
Producer Mattel Studios and Netflix announced that the “West Side Story” actor will take up the sword and skimpy costume of the ’80s icon in a film to be directed and co-written by The Nee Brothers (of the upcoming Sandra Bullock film “The Lost City” and “Band of Robbers”).
In “Masters of the Universe,” Allen will play an orphan named Adam who discovers he is a prince destined to be the savior of a faraway land. He must quickly learn of his power and the importance of saving his true home from an evil force. Previously at Sony Pictures, the project was officially announced by Netflix after months of further development. Sony will retain release rights to the project in China, insiders familiar with the deal said.

Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum attempt to fend off a maniacal Daniel Radcliffe in the first trailer for Paramount’s “The Lost City,” premiering in theaters on April 15, 2022.
In the film, Bullock plays Loretta Sage, a novelist who has spent her career writing about exotic places in her popular romance-adventure books. She’s reluctant to promote her new book because she’d rather spend her time in the bathtub while drinking Chardonnay with ice. Nevertheless, she agrees to go on tour with Alan (Tatum), the hunky cover model who serves as the face of her series, to meet fans and sell copies of her novel.
“You do know you’re not Dash, right? Dash is a character I made up,” Loretta tells Alan, who does in fact believe he is Dash.

Oscar Nunez has been cast in “The Lost City of D,” a romantic action comedy starring Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum.
It’s currently unknown who Nunez will play in the Paramount Pictures film, which centers on a romance novelist (Bullock), who gets stuck on a book tour with her cover model (Tatum). Straight out of a novella, a kidnapping attempt sweeps them both into a cutthroat jungle adventure, proving that life can be much stranger — and more romantic — than fiction.
The casting reunites Nunez with Bullock; he had a scene-stealing role in the 2009 romantic comedy “The Proposal” as the town’s resident waiter, minister… and exotic dancer. Nunez has guest appeared in dozens of popular television shows, including “New Girl,” “Reno 911” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” He’s best known for playing Oscar, a comedic foil to Steve Carell’s Michael Scott on “The Office.”

Sandra Bullock is producing and starring in the romantic action film “The Lost City of D” for Paramount Pictures.
The film is centered on a romance author who discovers that a fictional city she had written about is real, prompting her to embark on a risky journey to find the city. The sibling directing team of Adam and Aaron Nee is attached to direct “The Lost City of D” from a Dana Fox script, based on an idea and treatment by Seth Gordon (“Horrible Bosses”).
Bullock is producing the film through her company Fortis Films, and Gordon is producing via his Exhibit A banner along with Liza Chasin and 3dot Productions.
The studio is eyeing Ryan Reynolds as a possible co-star, but there’s no deal in place. Bullock and Reynolds previously teamed on the 2009 romantic comedy “The Proposal,” which Bullock also executive produced.

Paramount Pictures has set up and coming directors Adam & Aaron Nee to direct Lost City Of D, a Romancing The Stone-style romantic comedy/action film that the studio hopes will re-team Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. Neither has a deal and the latter’s availability is questionable because the studio is looking to move quickly.
Bullock and Reynolds starred together in the 2009 hit The Proposal.
The film is based on an idea by Seth Gordon, and Oren Uziel wrote the first draft, with the most recent draft by Dana Fox. Gordon is attached to produce via his Exhibit A Films. Bullock is producing through her Fortis Films along with Liza Chasin via her company 3dot Productions.

Sony Pictures has been trying to develop a new feature film adaptation of He-Man and The Masters of the Universe for years. They finally have a team of talent on board that is moving forward with the project and as it’s getting closer to production, the studio might actually end up selling it to Netflix.
According to THR, “studio chairman Tom Rothman is exploring the prospect of getting risk-free cash for the pricey project by making it for Netflix instead. A studio source says talks are preliminary, but such a deal would make Sony the next studio after Paramount to start making movies belonging exclusively or almost exclusively to the streamer.”

After years of trying to get a live-action Masters of the Universe film off the ground, Sony Pictures is finally moving forward with it and getting it ready for production.
It was previously reported that Noah Centineo was cast in the role of He-Man. A lot of fans aren’t really happy with the casting choice, but I’m curious to see what writers Matt Holloway and Art Marcum (Iron Man and Men in Black: International) and directors Aaron and Adam Nee (Band of Robbers) are planning.
During a recent interview with MTV, Centineo talked about the responsibility of playing He-Man in the movie, saying:
"It’s a really big responsibility. This is like first one in, last one out every single day, which I’ve done before, but I’ve never done it on a studio level. Which, studio level is the same as indie, but like, they got playback.

Sony Pictures has set a new release date for Masters of the Universe and that released date is March 5th, 2021. The movie was originally set to be released at Christmas this year, but with no signs of a production start date, we knew that was never going to happen.
We recently learned that Noah Centineo was cast in the role of He-Man, which was a very unexpected choice, but who knows what the filmmakers are planning. He just doesn’t seem to have the build for He-Man.
Matt Holloway and Art Marcum (Iron Man and Men in Black: International) have rewritten the script for the film, and Aaron and Adam Nee (Band of Robbers) are set to direct it.
There aren’t any concrete details to share on what is being planned for the story, but I hope that they end up delivering a badass He-Man movie that the fans will enjoy.

Prepare for more big screen battles in the land of Eternia, because Sony Pictures has set a 2021 release date for a new Masters of the Universe movie.
According to multiple sources, including Variety, the new Masters of the Universe movie is scheduled to come out on March 5th, 2021 from Sony. Long in development, the film was at one point scheduled to come out in 2019.
Aaron and Adam Nee (Band of Robbers) are now expected to direct Masters of the Universe from a new screenplay draft by Matt Holloway and Art Marcum (David S. Goyer had previously worked on the script).
Noah Centineo will play the iconic warrior He-Man, although it's not yet known who will play his nemesis, Skeletor.

About a month ago it was rumored that actor Noah Centineo was wanted for the role of He-Man in Sony Pictures’ new Master sof the Universe movie. Well, the actor recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and when asked about it, he confirmed that he has officially been cast in the role.
So, Noah Centineo is going to be He-Man. This is a very interesting and unexpected choice. Centineo is best known for the little teen romantic comedies that he stars in on Netflix. Some of those films include To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, The Perfect Date, and Sierra Burgess Is a Loser.
I have a couple of little girls who seem to think he’s hot. I’ve watched these Netflix films with my kids and he comes off as a very charming guy, but I still just can’t see him in the role of He-Man!

Sony Pictures has been trying to make a Masters of the Universe movie for over a decade. Now it looks like it’s finally going to happen with directors Adam and Aaron Nee (Band of Robbers) with a script written by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway.
Before they came on board, the movie was being developed by David S. Goyer, and apparently his vision for the film was too expensive for the studio. Apparently his film would have been a Lord of the Rings-sized epic. The new information regarding Goyer’s vision comes from Carlos Huante, a creature designer and former artist at Industrial Light and Magic. He also worked as a runner on the original He-Man cartoon series and was brought in to help help Goyer with Masters of the Universe.

For years Sony Pictures has been trying to get a new film adaptation of the classic 80s animated series He-Man and The Masters of the Universe off the ground.

Director and co-writer Rob McElhenney is no longer working on Warner Bros.’s film adaptation of “Minecraft,” according to The Wrap.
The “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” star was picked to direct the film in 2015, but now it’s not happening, he recently told The Wrap. Warner reportedly asked the writer/director duo of Adam and Aaron Nee to write a new script. “Wonder Woman” scribe Jason Fuchs wrote the previous draft with McElhenney. The Nee brothers are best known for “The Last Romantic” (2006) and “Band of Robbers” (2015). They’re also directing the upcoming “Masters of the Universe” film.
McElhenney is the second director to leave the project. Originally, “Night at the Museum” director Shawn Levy and writers Kieran Mulroney and Michele Mulroney were brought in to work on the film, but they left in 2014 after reportedly presenting new ideas to the studio that didn’t mesh with what Mojang was looking for.

In addition, Warner Bros. has tapped the writer/director duo of Aaron and Adam Nee to write a new script based on the popular game that boasts 100 million users worldwide. Jason Fuchs (“Wonder Woman”) wrote the previous draft of the screenplay with McElhenney.

Some incredibly interesting rumored story and character details have surfaced for Sony Pictures' upcoming adaptation of Masters of the Universe. As you'll see, there are possibly going to be some major changes that fans of the franchise will either embrace or rant about.
One of the biggest changes, which comes from That Hashtag Show, reveals that He-Man and Skeletor are actually brothers! They explain:
Our source has indicated to us that in the upcoming film, King Randor will be presented as the great warrior-king of Eternia, a descendant of the Grayskulls, and the father of two sons: Adam and Keldor! As the film begins, Keldor is the chosen heir to the throne and his brother, Adam, is young, unfit and a bit of a black sheep. Where Adam’s relationship with his father is strained, Keldor is the epitome of a perfect son, beloved by his father…until the...

At last! A new, big-screen version of beloved 1980s fan favorite Masters of the Universe is moving forward. The original animated television series, inspired by the Mattel toy line, ruled the world in the 1980s. That led to a live-action film, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (above), which was certainly memorable. Sony Pictures and Mattel have now decided to infuse the upcoming new version with some indie spirit. Aaron Nee and Adam Nee have been hired to direct, according to Variety. Who are they and what could this mean for our beloved He-Man? Who are the Nee Brothers? Aaron Nee and Adam Nee (above in Band of Robbers), aka The Brothers Nee and the Nee Brothers, have collaborated together on short and feature films, as well as music videos, for years. They...

Sony Pictures and Mattel have finally settled on two directors to helm the big screen adaptation of Masters of The Universe, and you've never heard of them before. They are two brothers named Aaron and Adam Nee and they directed a little indie film back in 2015 called Band of Robbers, which I thought was an ok movie. They must've made one hell of a pitch!
I have no idea if these guys are the right directors for the project, but I wish them luck and hope that they end up giving us an epically badass He-Man movie. They will direct the film from a script that was written by David Goyer (Man of Steel), who was looking to direct it at one point. He is also a producer on the project and according to the report, he is still "extremely involved in the development of the film.

He-Man has found new masters.
Sony Pictures and Mattel have tapped the directing duo of Aaron and Adam Nee to helm the He-Man movie “Masters of the Universe,” sources tell Variety.
Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch will produce with DeVon Franklin.
The movie will be based on the beloved Mattel toyline, which spawned a successful animated TV series (1983-85) as well as a 1987 film. The property centers on the warrior He-Man, the last hope of a magical land called Eternia. Dolph Lundgren starred in the original pic as the title character, while Frank Langella played the villainous Skeletor.
The pic is written by David Goyer, who is also an executive producer. Goyer had circled the director’s chair, but prior engagements forced him to pass on directing, though insiders say he is extremely involved in the development of the film.

Wound tight by a killer premise, polished direction, and a tone as though Anton Chigurh sauntered into “Bottle Rocket,” Aaron and Adam Nee’s “Band of Robbers” wrings the anxieties of aging and a dampened imagination from a grown-up Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. Structuring their modern tale around the Mark Twain narratives, the sibling directors find laughs, pathos, and some surprising storytelling twists, plus have a game cast to deliver it — Kyle Gallner, Stephen Lang, Hannibal Buress, Melissa Benoist, and Eric Christian Olsen. The cast is refreshing for the lack of previously known kinship among them; unlike the Judd Apatow and Paul Feig collectives who deliver and tweak their lineups, there’s something to be said for a new group of comedic and dramatic actors establishing a dynamic. In this case it’s led by Gallner, who plays the straight man Huck Finn to Adam Nee’s deadpan eccentric Tom Sawyer,...

Once you’ve caught up with our 50 favorite films of last year, it’s time to look towards 2016. While our comprehensive previews will be arriving shortly, today we’ll take a look at the month of January. This is usually a dumping ground for Hollywood, and although there are a few bigger titles that have our curiosity, it’s mostly festival hold-overs from 2015 that are the essential watches.
It should be noted that many of the best films of 2015 — including Carol, Anomalisa, 45 Years, Arabian Nights, Mustang, and Son of Saul — will be expanding throughout the month, so check your local theater listings. A restoration of Orson Welles’ Chimes at Midnight will also be touring the country, and there’s a limited NYC run of Studio Ghibli’s Only Yesterday; both should certainly take priority over anything below.
Matinees to See: Yosemite (1/1), Lamb (1/8), Anesthesia (1/8), A Perfect Day (1/15), 13 Hours (1/15), Band of Robbers...

Read More: Watch: Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn are Still Causing Mischief in 'Band of Robbers' Trailers In 2016, Tom Sawyer is a parody of a police officer and Huckleberry Finn is a mysterious and weathered former convict. Welcome to the new world of small time crooks in "Band of Robbers," directed by Aaron and Adam Nee. "Band of Robbers" is an updated comedic adaptation of Mark Twain’s most referenced works, "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" and "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer." Starring Kyle Gallner, Adam Nee, Matthew Gray Gubler and Hannibal Buress, "Band of Robbers" takes the legendary story and sets it in modern times, proving the timelessness of the works' themes and characters. In an exclusive clip above, Sawyer sports ray-bans and acts as uncomfortably bro-like as can be in the face of the newly released and understandably bitter Huck. In 2012, a graphic novel called Romeo and Juliet: The War, which reimagined Shakespeare's classic play in a futuristic dystopian society, somehow became a New York Times bestseller. Now, Variety reports that Stan Lee's Pow! Entertainment and 1821 Media are teaming up with Lionsgate to create a feature film adaptation. With this and the Romeo and Juliet sequel series in the works at ABC (yes, you read that correctly), not to mention further film adaptations of works like the Michael Fassbender-starring Macbeth, it seems like Hollywood is cashing in on Billy Shakespeare in a big way right now.
Here's the official description of the graphic novel:
This Is The Story Of...Two groups of superhuman soldiers who turned the Empire of Verona into the most powerful territory on earth. The Montagues, powerful cyborgs made of artificial DNA, and the Capulets, genetically enhanced humans known for their speed and agility, worked...

Rian Johnson's Brick is one of my favorite films because of the way the writer/director so deftly created a throwback film noir movie set in a modern day high school. It looks like directors Adam and Aaron Nee have done something similar with Band of Robbers, a comedy that imagines the famous Mark Twain characters of Huckleberry Finn (Kyle Gallner) and Tom Sawyer (Adam Nee) as modern day criminals. If that premise doesn't whet your appetite enough, Supergirl star Melissa Benoist co-stars as Becky Thatcher, and actors like The Office's Creed Bratton, comedian Hannibal Buress, and Avatar's Stephen Lang also have roles here.

Another trailer has arrived for the seriously bonkers-concept crime comedy Band of Robbers, and they’ve slapped a red band on it for a few well placed profanities. Coming off like Wes Anderson’s Bottle Rocket combined with BBC’s Sherlock, Band of Robbers takes the characters from Mark Twain’s novels about Tom Sawyer and Huckberry Finn, and updates them to the 21st century as young adults who formulate a ill-thought-out plan to knock over a pawn shop and steal a bunch of…...

When adapting an acclaimed literary work into a film or another medium, it's often said that the original author might turn over in his or her grave. But what happens when the author returns from the grave itself and shows up on set of such a film and proceeds to offer input? Brothers Adam and Aaron Nee claimed to have faced such a dilemma when riffing on Mark Twain’s tales of Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer with their co-directed comedy caper “Band of Robbers,” and now one of the filmmakers has penned a tribute to Mr. Twain’s contributions. In his essay “Working With Mark Twain,” written to observe the author’s 180th birthday today, Adam Nee recounts the surreal experience of shooting “Band of Robbers,” and seeing Twain suddenly appear on set and amble over to craft services. One should question the veracity of Nee’s words, but...

This new feature film brings up an interesting question: are literary icons timeless? Aside from science fiction tales, are they strictly a part of the era in which they were created? Ian Fleming’s James Bond began in the midst of cold war paranoia, but has been re-imagined and re-booted countless times to conform to more current concerns. This is certainly the case with Arthur Conan Doyle’s master sleuth. Sherlock Holmes, Victorian-era detective, has had great acclaim in modern times via not one, but two TV incarnations: “Sherlock” on the BBC and in the Us with “Elementary” on CBS. Well, how about a couple of American grown literary icons, hey maybe the most American duo? Of course, that’s Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer, creations of Mark Twain. Oh, and to make things a bit more interesting, let’s see how they fare in their early twenties. Such is...

I’ve got a trailer here you need to watch for a film called Band of Robbers, an intriguing take on Mark Twain’s Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. The story reimagines the characters as if they had grown up in modern times and is set in present day with Tom and Huck as grown up adults living as criminals.
The movie screened at the Los Angeles Film Festival and I’ve read great things about it. It looks like a great crime comedy that audiences will enjoy. It seems to have a Wes Anderson kind of feel to it, which is a good thing. If you’re a fan of Anderson’s work, that is.
Mark Twain’s young heroes Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn spring vividly back to life, this time as modern-day grown men. When Huck is released from prison he hopes to leave his criminal past behind.
