During the introduction, there is a view of a bucket wheel excavator in action. This type of machine is largely used in Europe to clear overburden for mining operations, while most American mines use electric shovels or drag lines to do this work. The sequence shows the bucket wheel rotating counter-clockwise. Bucket wheel excavators work from the bottom up, so the rotation should be clockwise.
John Dutton (Kevin Costner) frequently seems to "forget" his Montanan accent and drifts back into the SoCal speaking voice he normally uses.
Several characters, including Colby, Ryan and John Dutton have typical California accents. The character Jimmy Hurdstrom has a Midwest accent. In fact, almost none of the cowboys have what could be considered western accents, except for Walker and Lloyd. The Teeter character is the only one who tries (and fails utterly) to do a western accent.
