This year's New York Rendez-Vous with French Cinema opens with Guillaume Nicloux's Valley Of Love, starring Gérard Depardieu and Isabelle Huppert. Jacques Audiard's Cannes Palme d’Or winner Dheepan closes the festival. Melvil Poupaud, Julie Delpy, Alice Winocour, Diane Kruger, Maïwenn, Louis Garrel, Emmanuelle Bercot, Eva Husson, Rudi Rosenberg, Emmanuel Finkiel, Danielle Arbid, Nicolas Pariser, Clémence Poésy, Nabil Ayouch, Grégoire Hetzel, Mathieu Lamboley, Alain Resnais' composer Mark Snow, Huppert, Nicloux and Bruni Tedeschi are expected to attend.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center and uniFrance have announced for the 21st edition of Rendez-Vous with French Cinema in New York, a series of free talks starting with Isabelle Huppert, who co-stars with Gérard Depardieu in the opening night film Valley Of Love. It's followed by Melvil Poupaud starring with André Dussollier and Clémence Poésy in Nicolas Pariser's The Great Game (Le Grand Jeu) and a discussion with Lolo director Julie Delpy and Stephanie Zacharek.

Composers Grégoire Hetzel (Catherine Corsini's Summertime - La Belle Saison and Arnaud Desplechin's My Golden Days - Trois Souvenirs De Ma Jeunesse), Mark Snow (Alain Resnais' Wild Grass and Life Of Riley) and Mathieu Lamboley (Lolo) will take part in French Touch Composers, moderated by Elsa Keslassy.

Competition titles include Couple In A Hole, Sparrows, A Bigger Splash; Norway will be in the spotlight country.

Tom Geens’ Couple in a Hole [pictured], Rúnar Rúnarsson’s Sparrows and Luca Guadagnino’s A Bigger Splash will be among the 10 titles competing at the seventh edition of the Les Arcs European Film Festival (Dec 12-19) in the French Alps.

Another 20 short films will compete in the Igloo Short Programme including British Bafta-winning animators Greg and Myles McLeod’s 365 and Dutch Edmond De Nina’s Gantz.

The shorts will be shown in an “ice cinema” built at an altitude of 2,200 metres and only accessible by skis or on foot.

In total, some 120 films, selected to by the festival’s artistic director Frédéric Boyer, will screen across the week-long event, which drew nearly 20,000 spectators in 2014.

The 68th Locarno Film Festival (August 5-15) will open with Jonathan Demme’s musical comedy-drama Ricki And The Flash, in which Meryl Streep stars as a musician who tries to make things right with her family after giving up everything to pursue her dream of rock-and-roll stardom.

Written by Diablo Cody, the film gets a Piazza Grande berth alongside Judd Apatow’s Trainwreck, Alfonso Gomez-Rejon’s Me And Earl And The Dying Girl, Catherine Corsini’s La Belle Saison and Antoine Fuqua’s Southpaw.

Also playing is Michael Cimino’s The Deer Hunter. Cimino is being honoured with a Pardo D’onore Swisscom and will be taking part in an onstage conversation.

14 of the 18 films competing in the festival’s International Competition section for the Golden Leopard Award are world premieres including Andrzej Zulawski’s Cosmos, Ben Rivers’ The Sky...
