Let me just say I think it's absolutely impossible for anybody to appraise this music video objectively! It garnered an inordinate amount of hate upon release. The figures of Kim and Kanye individually are practically mythical at this point. Not to mention their relationship and dynamic as a couple. They mean so many different things to different people. This could be seen as complete worthless garbage or as a truly religious and sacred experience. Just depends on what baggage you're bringing to the viewing.
The song itself lends to the aura of amateurishness. It feels purposefully clunky, discordant and basic. Almost harsh on the ears.
I can understand why some people would find this video lazy and laughably bad. But you have to wonder, isn't that almost the intention? I give Kanye enough Artistic credit to know that whatever he was trying to express, I'm sure it goes deeper than just the shiny surface here. The question for me is, can I personally penetrate that surface enough to ignore Kim's dead eyes as she vibrates on that motorcycle?
There aren't enough pretty landscapes and galloping horses here for me to see this as transcending a bad modelling shoot.
You can't deny it's watchable and intriguing though, even if it's not objectively great art.
