After just two seasons, the groundbreaking, award-winning, critically acclaimed "Arcane" has come to an end. The animated series made a huge impact when it premiered in 2021, doing for TV animation what "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" did for feature animation. Indeed, "Arcane" season 1 delivered a visually stunning spectacle with a great story (and an even greater budget), memorable characters, and a world that felt as expansive as the narrative was intimate. It's the kind of show that arrives just once in a generation, and now it is over.

An adaptation of the world of Riot Games' hugely popular "League of Legends" game, "Arcane" season 1 put the final nail in the coffin of the idea of a video game adaptation curse. It felt like an expansion of the game rather than an imitation, and understood what made the characters and world exciting while telling its own story.

Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man gave the world a wonderful origin story for the web-crawling superhero who would go on to be one of the most popular Marvel characters. The films, directed by Sam Raimi, focused on Peter Parker’s growth from being a socially awkward teen to managing a personal, professional, and superhero life.

Maguire’s Spider-Man was different from his subsequent counterparts like Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland. One of the major differences was the decision to make his webbing organic instead of the web coming from a machine, as in the comics and other depictions. However, Raimi seemed to have hinted at one more superpower in the opening of the film.

Everyone remembers the incredible scene in Sam Raimi’s 2002 film Spider-Man when Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker learns how to climb on a wall.

Sony and Amazon/MGM's Spider-Noir series appears to be taking some major liberties with the source material, but given how obscure this Variant of the web-slinger is, does it really matter if "Ben Reilly" is beneath the mask instead of Peter Parker?

That's debatable; regardless, Sony appears to be ignoring the fact Ben is Peter's clone and we don't anticipate that being addressed in any way when Spider-Noir swings on to streaming next year.

Today, we have some new photos from the TV show's set (via Just Jared) showcasing Nicolas Cage's private eye. We've already seen that the series will feature a comic-accurate superhero costume and Cage unquestionably looks the part of "Ben" in these snaps.

The 60-year-old Oscar-winning actor took a quick lunch break in between scenes of his upcoming series Spider-Noir on Monday (November 11) in Los Angeles.

Nicolas was seen wear a dark green overcoat, gray suit, and a black fedora as he chatted with a co-star during their break.

The new series “tells the story of an aging and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.”

This is not Nicholas‘ first time playing Spider-Man Noir. He voiced the role in the animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Spider-Noir has been officially ordered to series already at MGM+ and Amazon Prime Video.

Others who are starring in the series include Lamorne Morris, Brendan Gleeson, and Li Jun Li.

“Lunik Heist,” written and to be directed by Kemp Powers, is inspired by the audacious true story of the American government’s plot to steal a Soviet spacecraft during a 1959 mission in Mexico City. The script is based on an article by Jeff Maysh, published in MIT Technology Review. Maysh serves as an executive producer.

Leto and Emma Ludbrook are producing under their Paradox banner, along with Mark Johnson for Gran Via Productions. Director of development Zahra Phillips will be overseeing the project for Searchlight Pictures, reporting to head of production and development DanTram Nguyen.

N Lite animation studio has unveiled a new partnership with Emmy-winning Japanese anime studio Gonzo K.K. (“Afro Samurai”) and Oscar-winning “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” director Peter Ramsey to produce two animated projects: a noir thriller feature titled “Ripper” and the sci-fi adventure series “Hotaru.”

As the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand, adapting bigger and bolder storylines to live-action, Sony too is moving ahead with its Spider-Man Universe. Having access to some 900 or so characters related to the fan-favorite web-slinger, the studio is now moving to the small screen to bring yet another story to live-action.

Starring Nicolas Cage, the studio has been developing the series Spider-Noir for quite some time now, and the first looks of the series were recently leaked. Reprising his role from the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse, this time in live-action, fans are excited and waiting eagerly for the series.

Despite Sony’s track record of Marvel flicks (other than the Spider-Verse movies) being, bluntly stating, terrible, the prospect of seeing Cage as the live version of his character does seem alluring. So, without further ado, here is all we know about the latest and upcoming series.

Oh what a tangled web we weave when the multiverse becomes part of Spider-Man canon. Dedicated followers of the superhero/comic book movies produced by Sony Pictures and its various production studios know how cinematic universe-minded the company has been for decades now. Sadly, a lot of their proposed ideas for combining their franchise characters into one film have been non-starters; we will never know what a "Sinister Six" movie would have looked like, and it's fair to say that we probably won't be seeing Dr. Michael Morbius or Cassandra Web again anytime soon. Right now, the only crossover movies Sony has under its belt is the Marvel co-production "Spider-Man: No Way Home" as well as "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" and its sequel, "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse." With those latter two movies existing in the animation world, a live-action crossover movie that doesn't involve a Marvel Studios team-up is still an elusive beast, one even Kraven...

Certain Marvel properties fall under the Sony banner, which can make things a bit confusing with Spider-Man, especially as there are three iterations of the web-slinger, and only one who regularly appears in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (for now).

Tom Holland’s Peter Parker has separate feature installments when he doesn’t overlap with the Avengers, and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2021) marked the most overlap of Holland’s Parker with not only the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but also the multiverse.

Given that it's being developed by Sony, there's been some concern among fans that Amazon's Spider-Noir series starring Nicolas Cage might not see the title character actually suit up. 

Peter Parker has already been replaced by Ben Reilly as Spider-Man Noir, but newly revealed photos and footage from the show's set confirm we're getting a comic-accurate take on the wall-crawling private detective. 

The hero looks like he's stepped straight off the page with a design that's also pretty much identical to what we saw in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Based on how this scene is playing out, Ben will see a fair bit of action as he rides atop a car while shooting webs into the distance. He also has his trademark hat and goggles, though we should point out that it's a stuntman in the suit, not Cage.

Despite great reviews after its release, the box office of Transformers One is far from meeting the budget.

The film has been met with rave reviews, including from /Film's Rafael Motamayor, even winning over some of the biggest naysayers who had long since abandoned the franchise. Unfortunately, the animated flick was met with a muted response from moviegoers, leaving the future of the series on uncertain ground.

Director Josh Cooley's "Transformers One" opened with an estimated $25 million domestically, placing in second in a tight race as Warner Bros.' "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" won out for a third straight weekend with $26 million. In a race that tight, the placement hardly matters. The group joins previously announced series regulars Nicolas Cage, Lamorne Morris, Brendan Gleeson, Abraham Popoola, Li Jun Li and Jack Huston.

Paramount Pictures’ newest Transformers film, Transformers One, has debuted to positive reviews from critics and promising early box office projections. The animated prequel, directed by Josh Cooley, tells the story of how Autobots Optimus Prime and Megatron’s friendship began on their home planet of Cybertron.

Released in theaters on September 20, 2024, Transformers One currently holds a 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 39 reviews. Critics have favored its fresh take on the Transformers mythology. Voice actors Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, and others have also received praise for their performances.

This critical acclaim contrasts with most past live-action Transformers films. Only 2018’s Bumblebee earned a “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes with the same 90% score. Jack Huston is the latest addition to the cast of Amazon’s upcoming series, Spider-Noir. More on the casting below.

Amazon’s Spider-Noir series is coming together nicely as more casting news emerges. The latest to join the line-up is British actor Jack Huston, who Deadline believes is playing a bodyguard.

Huston (pictured above as the character Richard Harrow in Boardwalk Empire) will be joining Nicolas Cage, Brendan Gleeson and Lamorne Morris in the series, which is heading to Amazon’s MGM+ before debuting globally on Prime Video.

Cage will reprise his role as the titular Spider-Man variant from Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse in which he voiced the character. Spider-Noir was immediately a fan favourite and Cage admitted earlier this year that he was having discussions about reprising the role in a live-action project. Spider-Noir came together quickly after that with an official announcement landing in May.

It's quite the time to be a Spider-Man fan. The Marvel Cinematic Universe's third Spidey movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home still has fans thinking about its game-changing moments almost three years on, with audiences ready to embrace the next step in the MCU saga. Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse is the planned third film in the animated trilogy – but it sounds like the problems are piling up.

Update: Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse composer Daniel Pemberton has addressed the reported delays to the film. Pemberton’s tweet, which you can see below, throws Jeff Sneider’s report of a new delay into question. According to Sneider’s newsletter The Insneider, Sony had scrapped large sections of the film, making it unlikely for Beyond The Spider-Verse to hit cinemas until 2027.

Pemberton doesn’t mention a solid release date, his post does imply that we’ll be seeing the film sooner than that, but Sony or the film’s directors Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson haven’t commented on the situation. We’ll keep you posted if they do.
