Born September 1, 1996, Zendaya rose to fame as a child star on the Disney Channel, with fan-favorite characters in “Shake It Up” and “K.C. Undercover.” The singer and actress soon started dabbling in feature films, where she earned the plum role of Mj, Tom Holland‘s love interest, in Marvel’s “Spider-Man” movies. Zendaya’s biggest claim to fame was in 2020, when she became the youngest-ever Emmy winner in the Best Drama Actress category for playing a teen drug addict on “Euphoria.” Her career continues to blossom thanks to recent releases like “Challengers” (directed by Luca Guadagnino) and “Dune” (directed by Denis Villeneuve).

Another one bites the dust at Netflix!
The streaming giant announced today that the Rob Lowe sitcom Unstable has been canceled after two seasons.
It’s been a tough year for Lowe, whose 9-1-1: Lone Star recently received the ax from Fox.
But when all is said and done, Rob Lowe still leads a pretty enviable life. So the real losers in this situation are, as always, the folks who continue to shell out for increasingly pricey Netflix subscriptions.
The situation has us feeling a bit like Charlie Brown. In this analogy, Netflix is Lucy, and exciting new content is the football that’s cruelly pulled away each time we make our eager approach.
At this point, it feels like every longtime Netflix subscriber has a horror story about getting hooked on a show just to see it unceremoniously axed after one or two seasons.

Yesterday, DC Studios made it official: Lanterns will see Kyle Chandler play Hal Jordan, with Aaron Pierre taking on the role of John Stewart. We'd imagine the plan now is to start filling out the supporting cast for this Earthbound adventure featuring the two Green Lantern Corps members.
Kelly MacDonald is reportedly being eyed for one female lead role and Nexus Point News' @ApocHorseman has now shared a few additional details about the show's supposed love interests.
"As I reported yesterday, Hal's love interest is the town's sheriff Kerrie Kane," they reveal. "John does get into an affair with an older woman named Zoe. She’s a Native American woman and the only person of color in an all white town."
The scooper adds, "Zoe's married to a businessman named Dillon and he's described as one of the antagonists of the series. Not sure if any of these are codenames or not.

Spanish actress and director Paz Vega (Spanglish, Sex and Lucia, Rambo: Last Blood, The Oa, Netflix heist drama Kaleidoscope), who wrote and stepped behind the camera for her directorial debut Rita, which world premiered during the 77th edition of the Locarno Film Festival this summer, enjoys writing and directing, adding another layer to her creative endeavors. And she thinks more actors should feel empowered to direct.
She made the comments during a Tuesday keynote interview at the Iberseries & Platino Industria conference and market in Madrid that was titled “Changing Roles: Paz Vega and Her Transition From the Art of Acting to the Art of Directing.” She recently said in a THR interview that Billy Wilder, Francis Ford Coppola, and Federico Fellini were among her role models.

“Inside Out 2” introduces several news emotions in Riley’s head, but it also welcomes back some familiar favorites from the first film. No matter your preference among them though, you’re going to recognize many of their voices.
Now 13 years old and getting ready to head into high school — without her best friends, as it turns out — Riley has officially hit puberty, and it’s unsurprisingly rough goings. It means dealing with Anxiety and Envy and Embarrassment, and Riley quickly loses her sense of self.
Though those emotions might be a headache for her, they’re fun for fans, especially considering who’s voicing them.
Here are the voices you might recognize in the “Inside Out 2” cast now that the film is streaming on Disney+.
Disney
Joy (Amy Poehler) — Leading the charge at the console — at least, whenever she can — is Amy Poehler’s Joy, returning from the first film.

When it originally premiered, there was nothing else like Dexter on TV.
Our volatile relationships with antiheroes were suddenly under a microscope, as Dexter analyzed blood spatter at crime scenes while setting up his next victim — those he believed weren’t meted the appropriate dose of justice.
Dexter Morgan was a serial killer, Robin Hood, doing the work law enforcement failed to do.
(Patrick Wymore/Paramount+ with Showtime)
Although Dexter finished its award-winning eight-season run in 2013, the man, the myth, and the legend live on.
He was first revisited with a Showtime original series, Dexter: New Blood, in 2021. If the original series ending didn’t satisfy, Dexter: New Blood proved equally as divisive. Yet, still, we tune in.

Chick-fil-a+. How does that sound? Is it catchy? That might just be the name of a new streaming service in the future. Yes, we're talking about the Chick-fil-a that serves some of the best chicken sandwiches and waffle fries you could ever eat!
The popular fast food restaurant chain is looking to join the streaming wars by launching its own streaming service. Who would've thought this would ever happen? We didn't see this coming at all. Like Netflix, Chic-fil-a will be creating original content as well as licensing and acquiring content for its streaming platform.
An official name for the streamer has not been announced yet, but the fast food company has reportedly been talking and working with major production companies on creating family-friendly, unscripted original shows. One show that's currently in the works and has been given a 10-episode order by Chick-fil-a is an upcoming game show from Glassman Media (The Wall) and Sugar23.

Exclusive: Vincent Kartheiser (Mad Men) and Laura Slade Wiggins (Shameless) have signed on to star alongside Landon Ashworth (Space Force) in Go On, a fantasy drama marking Ashworth’s feature directorial debut, which will enter production in New Mexico in September.
Marking Ashworth’s first produced feature screenplay, the film follows two strangers on a remote mountain, scorched by forest fires, as they help each other process baggage from their previous lives so they can transition to the afterlife. Ashworth crafted the screenplay after losing his very young cousin, Landon Bellm, to suicide.
“Having my feature film directorial debut be my own screenplay which addresses real, meaningful, and relatable issues is an honor,” Ashworth told Deadline. “Also, having the opportunity to work with Vincent is beyond a dream come true. I’ve followed his career for over a decade and knew he needed to play the co-lead of this movie.

There was a time not too long ago when whodunnits seemed to be a dusty relic of cinema’s past. Mysteries about a cast of colorful characters at the center of a murder case, and the intrepid detective investigating them, were far and few between in movie theaters for what felt like decades, and the rare films to feature those plots seldom attracted much attention. But nowadays, the genre is back, baby.
In 2017, Kenneth Branagh directed and starred as the iconic detective Hercule Poirot in “Murder on the Orient Express,” based on one of mystery writer Agatha Christie’s most famous novels. It was the first high-profile Christie adaptation to hit theaters in ages, after 1988’s “Appointment with Death.” The movie was highly successful, and Branagh has returned to that Poirot mustache with “Death on the Nile” and “A Haunting in Venice,” the latter of which opened in theaters this month.

General Hospital news reveals there is another sad twist in the tale of getting justice for Johnny-Johnny Wactor, that is. A frustrated Los Angeles Police Department has released suspect photos of his presumed murderers and is requesting the public’s help.
General Hospital Spoilers – Life Imitated Art In A Terrible Twist
Johnny made a memorable mark as Brando Corbin in 164 episodes of “General Hospital,” but in a haunting twist of fate, his character met a tragic end outside a bar.
This mirrored the real-life loss of the actor himself, killed after getting off his shift as a bartender; Brando’s demise occurred outside the fictional Charlie’s Pub.
He was “The Hook’s” first victim, later revealed to be Heather Webber (Alley Mills); fans will always remember Johnny as Brando, and shared a passionate marriage with Sasha Corbin (Sofia Mattsson).

“Twisters” is sweeping audiences off their couches and into the theaters.
The standalone follow-up to “Twister” (1996) grossed over $80 million in its first weekend and was the third highest-grossing film of 2024.
Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Anthony Ramos lead the disaster film as a ragtag group of storm chasers. Jones plays Kate Carter, a once disaster-seeker turned to corporate weather pro, while Powell plays Tyler Owens, a viral “tornado wrangler.” The two team up with Javi, a longtime friend of Kate’s played by Anthony Ramos, to tackle the biggest twister Oklahoma’s seen in generations.
The cast also features some newcomers but (spoiler alert!) no cameo from Helen Hunt. For the complete “Twisters” cast and character guide, keep reading.

What was initially a plan for a Star Wars film rejected by Disney seems to have transformed into the worst flop in the career of director and writer Zack Snyder, as the recently released Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, the sequel to Rebel Moon, is once again panned by critics, with the ratings listing it as Snyder’s worst movie – yes, worse than even the horrible Sucker Punch and the first part of Rebel Moon.
But, it seems that this won’t be stopping Snyder from expanding his franchise, as per the most recent reports. We know that Snyder and his writers are currently working on the script for a third movie if Netflix decides to make it, but a new project is coming sooner than expected and in a very unexpected format.
But, aside from this, we’d also like to report that the fans are not too happy about this,...

Official Dexter pics have been released from the new prequel, with Patrick Gibson in the title role as a young Dexter Morgan growing up in Miami. Read on to see exclusive pics from the set.
Dexter: Original Sin Takes Things Back To Miami In The 90s
With the huge success of the original Dexter franchise, as well as the 10-episode New Blood season in 2021, there is clearly still a lot of interest in the Dexter universe. That is exactly what producers are hoping for with the upcoming Dexter prequel, Original Sin.
Original Sin takes Dexter fans back to the beginning, of sorts, with a young Dexter Morgan trying to find his way in early 90s Miami. This includes finding a career path, as well as developing a code to satisfy his murderous urges, with the help of his father (played by Christian Slater).

Two years ago, Brandon Perea delivered a breakout big-screen performance in Jordan Peele’s Nope, and now he’s back in Universal’s latest July event film, Twisters. Directed by Lee Isaac Chung, Perea plays Boone, who’s nearly unrecognizable from his Nope character, Angel Torres. He is the right hand to Glen Powell’s Tyler Owens, as their team of “tornado wranglers” are the ragtag group of storm chasers that are most similar to Bill (Bill Paxton) and Jo Harding’s (Helen Hunt) motley crew in Jan de Bont’s now-franchise starter, Twister (1996).
Perea’s character is also the closest analogue to Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Dusty from the original film, and while the latter may have had more of a scientific background than Boone’s role as videographer, they’re both devoted friends, tie-dye enthusiasts and the life of the party. Phyllis Smith is a low-key actress. Even after being cast in the famous series The Office, she now lives quietly, with no desire for fame or the media. However, voicing a character in one of Pixar’s films seems to be the complete opposite.
Sadness and Joy in Inside Out 2 (Pixar)
With the great success of Inside Out in 2015 and the long-awaited sequel having premiered in June this year, it was expected that she would have to change her plans and see herself in the spotlight again. As it turns out, she seems to have been quite determined not to give up the “retired” acting career she was pursuing.
Phyllis Smith’s Genius Strategy Still from The Office (NBC)
Despite her resounding success as the character Phyllis Vance in The Office, as well as the critically acclaimed Netflix series The Oa, Phyllis Smith is not such a well-known actress in the industry.

There have been almost 40 victims over the span of three decades, but the awful story is always the same: A good, vanilla, church-going father in the suburbs of Oregon abruptly snaps without provocation, slaughtering his wife and their young children before taking his own life in similar fashion. Absent any forensic indication that someone from outside the home was at the scene of the crime, these domestic atrocities might seem like a devilish coincidence if not for the single piece of evidence they share between them, a sinister-sweet birthday card signed “Longlegs.”

The Oa was such a phenomenal sci-fi project that even five years after it was canceled, it still lingers in the minds of its fans.
But Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij's show is not the only sci-fi series that leaves you questioning reality and amazes with its ideas. We have chosen ten projects that should appeal to those who still miss the mysterious story of Prairie.
1. Devs, 2020
Sergei and Lily work for a successful It company called Amaya, with its office located in the middle of a dense pine forest. One morning, the owner of the company, Forest, makes Sergei an unexpected offer – he decides to promote the employee to a top-secret department, where even the colleagues are not allowed to tell each other what they are developing.
What he sees shocks Sergei so much that on the very first evening he tries to break the rule and takes secret data with him.

The billionaire Andy Ronson (Clive Owen) — a technological genius who serves as an antagonist and, ultimately, tragic figure in the FX limited series “A Murder at the End of the World” — may bear a more-than-passing resemblance to certain tycoons of our time. But creator, director and star Brit Marling had an older inspiration in mind.
“If anything, I think we were pretty influenced by reading about Disney, and the idea of Walt Disney as a figure who made real leaps in original thinking,” Marling explains in a conversation with Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast. “A Murder at the End of the World” is certainly critical of technology, but Marling, who conceived the show with Zal Batmanglij, also wanted to present a more nuanced narrative than resolving its classic whodunit plot with a single diabolical billionaire.

One of the most important and unusual shows of the 21st century, the sci-fi drama The Oa, was canceled after its second season. And this is probably the worst decision Netflix has ever made.
In 2016, the world of television was very different than it is today: auteur series were still a rare exception to the rule. Breakthroughs like Paolo Sorrentino's TV arthouse The Young Pope only set the stage for David Lynch's magnum opus, the 18-hour Twin Peaks Season 3, released a year later.
The Oa Was One of the Biggest TV Events of 2010s
And even against this backdrop, the first season of The Oa stood out for its mystery, its sincerity, and its uncompromising pressure on the viewer to believe in the most fantastic things.

The cast is filling out right now, including the newly signed Patrick Dempsey. Here is what you need to know.
Who Is Patrick Dempsey In Dexter: Original Sin?
The Dexter prequel series cast Patrick Gibson to play a young Dexter Morgan, replacing Hall in the role. When Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij started working on the idea that would become A Murder at the End of the World in 2019, they were searching for a way to build out the character of the billionaire who holds the retreat for the show’s central whodunit. The seemingly obvious option was to make Andy Ronson a social media scion, but their instincts told them the trope would quickly become cliché and that a new evil was presenting itself — but for awhile they were the only ones. “We had a friend in tech say, you can’t make the guy an AI designer, that’s so far away,” Batmanglij said during a recent THR Frontrunners panel. “But we were like, no, AI is important.” Of course, the show’s creators turned out to be more right than even they could imagine, and the result is the acclaimed FX limited series.

One of the reasons to keep a Netflix subscription is the upcoming addition of Lost. On July 1, one of the most mind-bending sci-fi TV series with the most famous and expensive pilot episode will be coming to the streamer with all 6 seasons available to binge-watch at once.
But if you're already missing the vibes, the mysteries, and the intensity of Lost, but can't wait until July, check out the list below and put your Netflix account to good use.
Dark (2017-2020)
As one of Netflix's most successful non-English titles, the sci-fi thriller Dark came to steal the hearts of viewers in Germany first. The show follows a mystery that begins with a modern timeline and a small town that has a sudden increase in cases of missing children.
From that point, a multi-generational investigation begins, with characters traveling through time from the 1950s to the 2050s. This series will be just as intriguing as Lost,...

The television industry has always been a fiercely competitive environment, and in an era of content overload, it has become absolutely ruthless: any show that fails to deliver the ratings expected of it is easily canceled, regardless of the long-term plans of its showrunners.
One such victim was Awake, a thrilling sci-fi mystery starring The Oa's Jason Isaacs that aired on NBC in 2012.
What is Awake About?
Awake was a project with one of the most intriguing premises of its time: an ordinary police detective Michael Britten gets into a car accident with his family – wife Hannah and son Rex. After the accident, Michael's son survives. However, the next morning the main character wakes up and finds out that his wife survived the accident, and it was his son who died.
Detective Britten finds himself in two parallel universes, in each of which only one member of his family survived.

When the first season of The Oa dropped on Netflix without any warning eight years ago, there was little to prepare viewers. The duo who created, wrote, and directed the series, Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij, had made a few interesting films, but were almost unknown outside of Sundance.
Their style of filmmaking in The Oa hypnotized, puzzled, and unsettled the viewers. It was a mixture of a dozen genres, switching from sci-fi thriller to teen drama.
However, the fact that the project did not fit into any framework apparently forced Netflix to cancel The Oa after two seasons, leaving fans without one of the most innovative sci-fi projects of the 21st century. Many viewers still hope to see the story continue in some form – a new season, a game or a comic book.
