Exclusive: Coming off a two-season run on NBC’s Saturday Night Live, Molly Kearney has been tapped to star in CBS’ single-camera comedy pilot Dmv, from Dana Klein, Kapital Entertainment, TrillTV and CBS Studios. As they make the transition from late-night to primetime with Dmv, Kearney is joining another SNL alum, Tim Meadows, who had been previously cast in the pilot alongside Colin From Accounts co-creator and star Harriet Dyer.
Prolific comedy director Trent O’Donnell (Ghosts) is set to direct and executive produce the Dmv pilot, written by Klein based on author Katherine Heiny’s short story.
Dmv is a workplace comedy set at the place everyone dreads going most: the Dmv. Our quirky and lovable characters are making minimum wage, doing a thankless job where customers are annoyed before they even walk in the door. Good thing they have each other.

Harriet Dyer has been cast in the CBS comedy pilot “Dmv,” Variety has learned.
Dyer joins previously announced cast member Tim Meadows in the single-cam pilot, which was ordered at CBS back in August. The pilot is based on a short story by Katherine Heiny. The official logline states that the show is “set at the place everyone dreads going most: the Dmv. Our quirky and lovable characters are making minimum wage, doing a thankless job where customers are annoyed before they even walk in the door. Good thing they have each other.”
Dyer will play Colette, who is described as “the driving examiner with a huge heart. Colette takes the scared and nervous people because she’s calming and patient and genuinely roots for them to pass. Smart, self-aware, and working on herself, Colette is adorably neurotic, bad with boundaries, and often prioritizes other peoples’ feelings over her own.

Sunny Nights will follow siblings Martin (Forte) and Vicki (Carden) Marvin who venture to Sydney determined to start their spray tan business. When they get caught up in the city’s criminal underworld, they must figure out how to stay alive, out of prison and in the black. During the process of writing Colin From Accounts, the spiky Australian comedy with a sweet center that launched this year on Paramount+, creator and star Harriet Dyer decided she didn’t want to make a “doggy show,” she recalls. “She didn’t want it to be cutesy,” her co-creator, co-star and husband, Patrick Brammall, added.
She was dissuaded, however, from changing the central premise, in which two lonely people, played by Dyer and Brammall, are drawn together while caring for a disabled dog, whose injury they are both inadvertently responsible for. (The alternate version: replacing the canine with an elderly woman.)
The show starts off as Ashley (Dyer), a medical student, cheekily flashes her boob to microbrewery owner Gordon (Brammall) while she’s crossing the street and he’s behind the wheel of a car. In his distraction, he hits the dog, Colin, who is wandering the streets. They end...

Jack Axelrod, the actor who played the role of Victor Jerome on General Hospital, has died. He was 93.
Multiple reports indicate that Axelrod died on Nov. 28 of natural causes in Los Angeles.
Axelrod was featured on the ABC soap for 40 episodes between 1987 and 1989. He had previously made guest appearances in Kojak (1977), Hill Street Blues (1984), Dallas (1983), The Judge (1986), Dynasty (1987), Outlaws (1987) and Night Court (1989).
“I had the pleasure of spending a lot of time with him in his last years, as he had no immediate family,” representative Jennifer Garland said in a statement to EW. “We spent much time outdoors, where Jack loved to sketch, read news articles, and recite Shakespearean sonnets.”
Following his stint on General Hospital, Axelrod went on to play Arnie Zimmer on three episodes of Knots Landing between 1989 and 1990. Guest appearances would follow on shows like Murphy Brown (1992), Everybody Loves Raymond (1999), Boys Meets World (1999), Good vs Evil (1999), Jack & Jill...

In news that is sure to move waves in Spain, Portugal and beyond, former Netflix exec Juan Mayne, a name inextricably linked to the build of Spain as a global film-tv power, has been appointed as SkyShowtime regional content director for Iberia, encompassing Spain and Portugal.
The move creates an effective new streaming door to knock on for Spanish producers as some other – though not all – platforms are curbing commissions or orders in the two countries.
SkyShowtime in Spain and Portugal will be led, moreover, by one of Spain’s best known, connected and personable of TV execs, supercharging its operation in Spain from the get-go.

Not so long ago, the only Australian TV shows imported by the UK and US were soaps and the odd kids’ series. Neighbours, Home & Away, Prisoner: Cell Block H, Heartbreak High, and child trauma factory Round the Twist went overseas, but not much else.
It didn’t make for a very complete picture. 30 years ago, if you’d asked a British person to conjure up Australia based solely on its available TV output, they’d have pictured a land of bait shops, haunted lighthouses, prison wings, and cul de sacs where good neighbours become good friends. Ask one now, and thanks to streaming, it’d be a much broader church, based on viewing comedies, thrillers, dramas, detective shows and more.

The premise of “No Activity” is so simple it’s dangerous. The police are stuck in an extended waiting game with a drug cartel. With the bad guys’ plan stalled, the cops have nothing to do but sit in their unmarked cruiser and keep an eye on their hideout. The two partners can only talk to each other to pass the time, and the same is true for the criminals on the inside and the dispatchers back at the station.
In other words, nothing happens. There’s literally no activity (barring the final moments of the first two episodes), and the entire comedy relies on banter between various partners to carry the show.
Improbably, it works. Buoyed by strong comedic performances from likable personalities, both new and familiar, and the sharp dialogue courtesy of series creator Trent O’Donnell and star Patrick Brammall, “No Activity” is a low-key pleasure. It goes down easy,...

Another turn of the calendar means another flood of new things to be aware of. Sure, Netflix has an entire slate of fresh programming all to themselves, but even that’s just the tip of the TV iceberg. The fall TV season might be winding down before a massive Thanksgiving reboot, but there are plenty of premieres still left before we get too deep into the end of the year chatter. So warm up your (probably already overheated, actually) DVRs, fill out your mental calendars, and skim through some of the best new shows the month has to offer. CBS All Access has released a funny red-band trailer for their upcoming original comedy series No Activity. The series comes from Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Funny Or Die and it looks like it could be a great show worth checking! If you're already signed up with CBS All Access to watch Star Trek: Discovery, now you've got another series to look forward to watching! I enjoyed what I saw in this first trailer as it contained a few things that managed to make me laugh. Here's the synopsis:

Captain Lorca had to fight for his life this week on Star Trek: Discovery — and he didn’t get much help from a classic Trek character.
Lorca starts out the week on a Starfleet space station, bragging to Admiral Cornwell about all the great things the Discovery has accomplished since they fired up the spore drive. But on a shuttle ride back to his ship, he’s ambushed by Klingons, who kill the pilot and take Lorca hostage. (Seems they’ve heard a bit about this spore drive, too.) They throw Lorca in a prison cell, where he meets… Harry Mudd!

Late-night TV hosts were caught in President Trump’s Twitter crosshairs over the weekend, prompting Late Show host Stephen Colbert to bring in reinforcements Monday for his response to Potus.
In a tweet that referred to late-night TV as “unfunny” and “always anti-Trump,” the commander-in-chief also requested equal time — which only applies to political candidates at the time of a campaign, not after they’ve been elected.
