The Daily Wire, the conservative media outlet founded by Ben Shapiro, has hired a Disney veteran to help grow its subscription streaming business.
The company has tapped Eric Caballero as its new CMO, overseeing all marketing for the company, particularly as it continues to invest in the entertainment business, arguing that legacy companies like Disney have abandoned their family-friendly roots.
Caballero most recently worked as VP in Disney’s media and entertainment distribution group.
Among other projects, Caballero will lead marketing for The Daily Wire+, the company’s streaming platform. While it includes politically-focused content from The Daily Wire as well as some other conservative programming, the company is moving further into entertainment, committing 100 million to produce kids and family fare, and expanding into original movies (including a Gina Carano led offering called Terror on the Prairie).

Lin-Manuel Miranda is one step closer to achieving Egot status after earning an Oscar nomination in the best original song category for “Encanto’s” “Dos Oruguitas.” Miranda already has Emmy, Tony and Grammy awards.
Should he succeed in winning the Oscar, he would join the elite group of artists who have achieved the status, including John Legend, Marvin Hamlisch and Robert Lopez. Composer Alan Menken was the most recent artist to achieve Egot status in 2020, when he won an Emmy for outstanding original song in a children’s, young adult or animated program for “Waiting in the Wings” from Disney’s “Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure.”
Miranda also has the rare distinction of winning a Pulitzer Prize for “Hamilton.” There are currently only two other people in the world who hold that honor, Hamlisch and Richard Rodgers.

Jennifer Hudson won a Daytime Emmy Thursday for her role as executive producer in Baobab Studios’ “Baba Yaga,” putting her one award short of achieving Egot status.
VR animated film “Baba Yaga,” made for the Oculus Quest, won in the interactive media for a daytime program category. Hudson starred alongside Glenn Close, Kate Winslet and Daisy Ridley, who also voiced characters. But it was Hudson’s role as executive producer that garnered her the Daytime Emmy Award.
Hudson already has an Oscar, winning for supporting actress in 2007 for her role in “Dreamgirls.” She also has two Grammy awards including Best R&b Album and Best Musical Theater Album. All she needs is the Tony Award to achieve the Egot. And she came close in 2016, but was shockingly snubbed when the Broadway revival of “The Color Purple” landed four nominations with Hudson missing out.

Renée Elise Goldsberry is one step closer to achieving Egot status after earning a supporting actress Emmy nomination in the limited series or TV movie category for her performance in “Hamilton.”

The holiday season is here and Pixar has a little gift for Disney+ subscribers.
After the animation studio’s next major effort was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, the powers that be finally made the decision to release it on Disney’s streaming service. And that’s why you will now be able to watch Soul via Disney+ on Christmas Day. Soul stars Jamie Foxx as Joe Gardner – an inspiring jazz musician who finally gets his chance when his soul enters the Great Beyond.
Soul isn’t the only gift on Disney+ in December 2020. The sure-to-be-thrilling finale of The Mandalorian season 2 will arrive on Dec. 18. After those two beg exciting tentpoles, it’s pretty much business as usual for Disney+ this month (not that that’s necessarily a bad thing). An original movie of note, Safety, premieres on Dec. 11 and should at least be of interest to Clemson football fans.

The Mouse House recently revealed that they’re looking to make exclusive streaming content their number one priority moving forward, which is just as well because at the moment, Disney Plus doesn’t have too many options for original movies and TV series that have the potential to grab headlines and dominate the online conversation.
Sure, Hamilton was a huge success, but aside from that and, obviously The Mandalorian, there haven’t been a whole lot of high profile titles added in 2020. On July 26, composer and songwriter Alan Menken officially became an Egot — joining 16 others in achieving the rare distinction of having won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award — via his Daytime Emmy for outstanding original song in a children’s, young adult, or animated program for “Waiting in the Wings” from Disney’s “Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure.”
Joining the likes of John Legend, Marvin Hamlish and Robert Lopez in the honor, Menken spoke with Variety on the heels of his historic moment.
So… how does it feel to be an Egot?
I didn’t take it on as a life goal, but I have to admit that since it didn’t happen after a few times, I thought it wasn’t important. When it finally happened and I got the call saying I had finally won, I was surprised at how excited I was. On some deep level, it certainly does mean something to me.

Zachary Levi is living his dream.
The 37-year-old actor has become beloved by fans throughout his nearly two decades in Hollywood with roles like Chuck Bartowski on Chuck and Flynn Rider in Tangled, but it’s only recently that he’s reached a point in his career where he feels he’s really made it.
“This business is a really gnarly one, and you put yourself out there and work hard, and a lot of times, that's not enough,” he told Et over the phone on Friday, while promoting the season finale of Tangled: The Series. “You know, you have these moments that kind of are blessings or luck, or whatever you want to call it, that kind of drop into your lap, and all of a sudden, your entire life changes. And I feel like this is that.”

Last Year’s Winner: “Archer”
Still Eligible: Yes.
Hot Streak: “South Park” has been nominated four years in a row, 12 of the last 13 years. “The Simpsons” has been nominated two years in a row, but previously had a 24-year hot streak before it missed out on a nod in 2014.
Fun Fact: “The Simpsons” and “South Park” have been duking it out in this category for as long as the latter has been in existence. Fox’s iconic comedy has 10 awards and 25 nominations, while Comedy Central’s most heralded series of all time has five wins and 15 nods.
With one of last year’s nominees no longer eligible — “Phineas and Ferb,” which aired its final episode in 2015 — there’s at least one open slot in the Outstanding Animated Program category. That’s good news for the newcomers and those denied entry for past season. We’re hoping that bodes well for “BoJack Horseman,...

Tangled duo Rapunzel and Flynn may be seen attending Elsa’s coronation in Frozen, but if there’s any other connection between the two Disney franchises, Mandy Moore doesn’t want to hear it.

While discussing Disney Channel’s Tangled: The Series — which premieres Friday at 7:30/6:30c — TVLine presented Moore, who voices Rapunzel, with the popular (albeit debunked) internet theory that Anna and Elsa’s parents’ ship sunk while they were on their way to attend Rapunzel and Flynn’s wedding.
