This show is decent but trash on the low. The acting is ok, a step above cringe but still not that good. The songs are pretty good and I added some of them to my playlist. There aren't too many wacky storylines and overall, it flows pretty well. I say get past the first two episodes because they are still establishing the storylines.

The show moves like this issues, issues...drama, drama, drama. Great Music! I recommend physiological evaluations for everyone on the show because its high end crazy. I feel for the youngest member of the group, because her issues and drama was inflicted. Even with all the drama and issues- the music is smoking, and its the only reason I watch!

I would give this show a 10/10 as I think it's an amazing show. The acting from everyone is phenomenal.
Brittany O'Grady's character was hands down my favourite. Her emotional range as an actress is outstanding. The character who plays Star irritated me a lot. I feel like after 3 seasons she would stop being so selfish and not be so guarded all the time. Her tough chick act got too much to watch that I had to stop watching it for a little bit.
I know it's a character but found her rude and ungrateful.
Besides that, I love watching anything with Queen Latifah. She's the GOAT!! Brandy never disappoints ever!!

I found this show by mistake when flipping through channels. I am now hooked. Knowing family members that have been involved in the music business makes it even more intriguing to me. I have always loved both Queen Latifahs singing and acting skills and must say she plays someone you can only learn to love more and more each week. Benjamin Pratt plays the part of a man who you can both hate and love at the same time. Even though I am not familiar with the girls that portray the young singers.(though a bit risqué at times) they are exceptional. To be honest I can't think of any actor in this show that doesn't keep you wanting more. The only problem is every time I get interested in a new series they end up taking it off the air. I am pulling for this one!

How this show cancelled?! I just found it in Hulu early this week and fell in love!!! The cast is phenomenal and it addresses issues that need to be talked about. I was so moved and inspired by this show! Someone better save this show!!! I need Seasons 4-10 to happen!!! You can't end it like that!!
After watching only half of it I was looking to record all future episodes and couldn't find it! Apparently, I have to wait until January. Great story, amazing singing (Queen Latifa! and talented new girl stars), really interesting plot lines - maybe too many. Instead, continue richly develop your amazing characters and maybe let these issues surface gradually with hints instead of being so overly dramatic, this show has "legs" don't try too hard (my issues with that other drama). And for the commenter who said only one type of audience will watch this? I'm whiter than white and loving this, because this is about a universal dream. Not loving Latifa's character wanting to kill Bratt's without having had at least some backstory, and pulling a gun? Too much! I did like from the preview where it looked like she decked him, much less dramatic. Also, it would be interesting if he turned out to be Star's father and extra creepy considering how he looks at her lol!

Don't pay any attention to the low ratings since they are all at least a year old! Check it out for yourself!

Is it the best show to ever appear on FOX? No.
Is it as bad as the reviews make it seem? No.
The show has amazing music, personally better than Empire. The storyline has a lot of twists and turns. I say give the show ATLEAST a try longer then 2 episodes. What can a show tell in 2 episodes? The show evolves well in my opinion. The singing and acting is good as well.
...I usually gives new shows a couple of episodes before I totally write them off. And because it has a proved producer/director as well as a star that I've like from wayyyyy back, I decided to give it a solid chance. The show has substance and depth. It's interesting with the right amount of music, humor and edginess. I have to admit, I didn't expect Oscar or Emmy award winning performances. I just wanted something entertaining with a good storyline, good writing and good acting. It has all of that. So I look forward to watching it each week to see just how far this adventure will go in an hour (of relaxation and entertainment after a hard day's work).

The cast is excellent and the acting first rate. The music is mostly good and the story line is often compelling. The issue is the underlying message that is sent over and over in almost every scene. Again and again the viewer is boldly told what to, think, how to react, how to speak etc., based solely on race. The writers seem to attempt to highlight many social problems in America. This is admirable. However, nearly every behavior that surrounds each issue is almost always based on race in a narrow and stereotypical manner. This is insulting to the intelligent and conscious viewer. There seems at all times to be an agenda to the writing which forwards this narrow view of how each race should look/feel/act. It is not a show I would recommend to teenagers or young adults or to anyone at risk of adapting the underlying ideals or emulating the purported behaviors of this show; Ideals and behaviors that narrow, that constrict, that diminish one's character and ones possibilities, ones world. Race does not define a persons thoughts, behaviors or life. There is no box in which each race fits. Having the characters repeatedly spout such limitations does not make it so.

I'm not one to write reviews, but after reading some of the reviews submitted, I just wanted something positive said about this show. It's a great operetta. I love the music and dance routines. I think Queen Latifah is amazing. The three girls are excellent.
I also like the story-line. The actors are doing a great job. This is better than Empire. Better music, better character development, better pacing. I'm interested in these women...all of them: Carlotta, Cotton, the three divas. I look forward to each episode.
I think Lee Daniels and crew have done an excellent job.

So this time we have the poor white girl and the rich black girl which is a change of pace. I agree with a few of the other reviews that the show could be predictable, but I get what Lee Daniels was doing when he said he was just trying to balance things out. The music is great, always me some Queen and that dynamic voice of hers taking me to church for a moment. It is going to attract a certain type of viewer, but if it does it will probably do a little better than I think. But it is no way equal to Empire. I have added it to my watchlist though. Lee Daniels it's time to get out of your comfort zone and let's see what else you have to offer at this point.

Surely the financial difficulties could be sorted to now get either a new series 4 made or to finalise the story with a movie to complete and draw up the loose ends after such a cliff hanging end to series 3.
All fans must demand that Netflix or Paramount find a way to finalise the storyline ending. By creating either a concluding final series 4 or by creating a concluding movie.
Loved all the performances, but I mostly loved Queen's performance as Carlotta, who concreted all the characters together.
We need far more TV to deal with these types of issues, and to show women as true survivors.

This show never looked appealing to me when on Fox. After it was canceled, I watched an episode out of boredom on Hulu. It surprisingly surpassed my expectations. It's nothing too original but good. It does have its moments where it attempts to address political subjects, including race, police brutality, immigration, a family's struggle with a trans character, religion, etc., but does seem to try to address both sides of the political issue without solely demonizing one side. The music is fairly good and some of the songs could be viable hits on the radio. Overall, an enjoyable show.

Storyline was pretty soapy and major elements were unbelievable (like the artists never leave Atlanta - even the awards were supposedly in Atlanta). But the music was great and the acting was fine. Overall an enjoyable watch.
The show shouldn't be cancelled I watch it all the way in England it's an amazing show love the storyline should be renewed

The first episode of this show was pretty interesting. It's not really a new story line for a show but it's refreshing on bringing different races and sexualities together. However, by the third episode, the cringe started to really set in.
In this show, they don't really tell you how old the girls are. I guessed Star is to be going on 18 since she said to the social worker that she is almost legal to get her sister. So, I'm assuming Simone and Alexandra are 17. Simone my be able to pass as 17 but Alexandra and Star come across 20 plus, especially Star. They should have made them roommates in an apartment in their 20's trying to make it big. Ages 21-25, those ages are still young. Star is seducing people much older than her and club hopping at 17?
Star, Alexandra, and Simone all have this rebellious attitude. It's either against each other or others. Anyone who talks to them in this show they have to respond with attitude. It seems like it's in every episode thus far. They can relax sometimes. Carlotta, everyone in the salon, Alexandra's mom and dad have attitude too. It's too much attitude.
There are some things in this show that are cringy and corny. Like, some of the musical scenes and some of the things that are said in scenes. All in all the first episode was decent but it's going downhill from there for me. I don't want to elaborate too much because I don't want to spoil it for those who are interested in watching it.

This show was hot from the jump!! The storyline and actors made it feel so reaL. Season 3 was just a bit different and the finale was unexpected TRASH! FOX definitely had an agenda from the start. Season 3 proves it.

The writing is very very poor. It doesn't make sens at all, even really hard to believe. Also hard to believe that it even crossed their minds as it's too far from reality and it's not SF. There is a huge lack of coherence. Dancing in front the police, the whole killing things, the families, the songs writing just before the show... actually nothing make sens and sometimes it's pathetic. You can't avoid saying few WTF for each episode.
I put 5 for the actors at least, most deserve better. By the way Naomie is a good actress.
I really don't like to say negative things or hurt anyone it's sad because it's more written to make quick money than to make something really good. It's a pity because these actors could really make a good show.
