The bout between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul may have been a disappointment for viewers, but they helped make it a tremendous success for Netflix, seeing upwards of 65 million concurrent of the highly-anticipated fight…which means far more than that were ticked off by the constant streaming interruptions.
While the numbers won’t officially be known until later in the week, it was determined by Netflix over the weekend that 60 million households were tuned into the Tyson and Paul fight, a little under a quarter of their total subscribers. With 6,000 bars/restaurants also streaming the match, it was also found to be the most commercially distributed combat sports event ever.
But whether at home or at the watering hole, the Tyson and Paul fight was marred by seemingly constant lags — and we’re talking about the streaming itself. According to Downdetector, there were around 90,000 reports of streaming issues with Netflix...

Jake Paul and Mike Tyson’s heavyweight boxing match was viewed by an estimated 60 million households globally, peaking at 65 million “concurrent streams,” according to data shared by Netflix.
More data will be released in the coming days, including total viewer numbers, the streamer said. As for the main card, after eight rounds, Paul, 27, claimed victory over former world heavyweight champion Tyson, 58, in a unanimous decision.
Per Netflix, Paul vs. Tyson and Taylor vs. Serrano 2 repped “the biggest boxing gate outside of Las Vegas in US history,” as the Paul vs. Tyson gate has surpassed $18 million, “double the previous Texas gate record for combat sports in both boxing and Mma, topping...

While X was filled with fans eager to watch the start of Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson on Netflix, many were complaining about buffering and image issues during earlier fights, causing disappointment and an inability to keep up with the action.
Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy took to X several times during the event to post about the streaming service buffering, writing, “So the reports are in. #netflix wasnt ready for this. This is unwatchable,” and “I’m in the classic torture chamber where I cant tell if my internet keeps going out or whether #netflix is just constantly buffering and unwatchable for everybody.”
Sports commentator Skip Bayless also weighed in on the social media platform, writing, “I’ve been having streaming issues during live action on Netflix — and I’m dreading freezing and buffering during Paul-Tyson. I guess servers just don’t have the bandwidth for the worldwide magnitude of this.

The streaming service that changed the course of entertainment by, in part, famously swearing off commercials, now has 70 million users watching ads each month. These days, more than 50 percent of new signups in Netflix’s 12 ad-supported countries are for its ads plan; Netflix’s ad tier launched two years ago.
Netflix’s own ad tech will roll out globally next year; Canada is already solely running on the in-house platform. Netflix had initially partnered with Microsoft’s ad tech to get up and running.
It was a slow start for Netflix with Ads, but things have since picked up. Along the way, Netflix learned a lesson about asking advertisers for huge rates before establishing a user base that would actually see said advertising.
But advertising is beginning to make more and more sense, for both Netflix itself and its members. For Netflix, ads bring in another reliable revenue stream. As a matter of fact,...

Netflix says that users of its advertising tier have surged in the past six months, and that the ad tier now has 70 million monthly active users globally. That is up from only 40 million just six months ago, and up from 15 million a year ago.
The company also reiterated that more than half of new users are subscribing to an ad tier, helping to drive that growth.
The company disclosed the new numbers on the two year anniversary of launching the ad tier, and also made a number of other advertising-related announcements, in a post authored by advertising chief Amy Reinhard.
For starters, the streaming giant says that it has sold out of advertising inventory during its two Christmas Day NFL games, with FanDuel and Verizon among the sponsors. FanDuel will be the official sportsbook partner, with an in-game segment featuring on-air talent; Verizon, meanwhile, will be the kickoff sponsor.

Fifth Season has sold the series to the BBC along with MTV Oy (Finland), Svt (Sweden), Nrk (Norway), Dr (Denmark) and Movistar Plus+ (Spain). Featuring newly-revealed information, the series from Warner Bros. International Television Production New Zealand documents the intricate planning that went into escapes from Gloriavale – with access to its inner workings, the unravelling of its leadership and the pursuit of justice by a passionate and dedicated resistance movement gaining momentum outside. Jennifer Ebell, Fifth Season’s EVP, Emea Sales and Acquisitions, said: “Escaping Utopia is a brilliantly crafted series with exclusive...

A new study by Ampere Analysis has found that, together, the top 6 global content providers — Disney, Comcast, Google, Warner Bros. Discovery, Netflix, and Paramount — now account for the majority (about 51 percent) of the industry’s total content-spend landscape, up from 47 percent in 2020. The half-dozen media giants contribute $126 billion annually to the big picture; about one-third of that is for streaming programming.
About 45 percent of the grouping’s combined annual budget goes to original content; smaller pieces of the pie go to sports content and acquired film and TV programming.
Disney singlehandedly accounts for 14 percent of the entire 2024 investment, globally, in TV and film content. Its acquisition of Comcast’s one-third stake in Hulu further separate the top 2 spenders.
In third place is Google, the owner of YouTube. Though the user-generated-content platform does not actually pay its creators, it does pay them out.

Body horror, a subgenre of horror that delves into the visceral and grotesque violations of the human body, occupies a distinctive and unsettling space in cinema. As a genre that takes pride in showcasing nightmarish transformations, mutilations and mutations, body horror reveals the raw and often uncomfortable truths about the human condition. Films like The Fly, The Brood, Hellraiser, Videodrome and the recent The Substance reflect not only primal anxieties and physical decay but also the fragility of our humanity. In the realm of body horror, few films leave as indelible a mark as Julia Ducournau’s debut movie Raw (2016), who established herself as the protégé of ‘the king of body horror’ David Cronenberg, a reputation she further solidified with her sophomore feature Titane (2021).

Warner Bros. Discovery and All Elite Wrestling have reached a multi-year renewal, shoring up the programming of foundational linear networks TNT and TBS and adding streaming simulcasts on Max.
Five years ago, prior to its merger with Discovery, WarnerMedia teamed with Aew to launch the pro wrestling circuit. While still overshadowed by the WWE, the Aew has had a solid run and proved to be a year-round ratings draw.
Under the new agreement, Wbd’s networks and platforms will remain the exclusive home of Aew Dynamite (Wednesdays on TBS) and Aew Collision (Saturdays on TNT). Terms also call for enhanced distribution rights across social platforms as well as what the companies called “building opportunities” for more Aew programming across linear and digital down the line.
Wbd’s flagship streaming service Max also will for the first time stream Aew programming live, beginning in January.
Aew live pay-per-view events also will be distributed via Max at a discounted price per event, the companies said, with all marketing and promotion of those happening exclusively on Max. Those events will start appearing on Max “later in 2025,” according to a press release, with details including pricing to be revealed in the coming months.
“Tony Khan and the entire Aew team have been incredible partners, and we are thrilled to strike this expanded agreement to deliver amazing new Aew content and stories to TNT and TBS, as well as bring the thrilling live action to Max for the first time,” said Kathleen Finch, Chairman and CEO of US Networks, Wbd. “We are focused on creating fresh and authentic experiences for Aew’s passionate and engaged fanbase while also introducing them to our growing lineup of high-action sports and entertainment at TNT and beyond.”
Aew CEO, Gm and Head of Creative Tony Khan said the contract extension “continues the tradition of iconic wrestling events broadcast on TBS and TNT, while also establishing a new legacy for Aew through weekly live streams on Max for years to come.”...

Regardless of their artistic merit, it’s understandable that it can sometimes be difficult for mainstream cinephiles to connect with movies about twisted bodies and grisly mutations. Obviously, this doesn’t mean that these films are any less deserving of praise – it’s just that not every critic has a strong stomach. That’s why it’s so satisfying to see a production like Coralie Fargeat’s satirical body horror flick The Substance get the recognition it deserves in spite of its disturbing mean streak.
And in honor of this Demi Moore / Margaret Qualley experiment wowing highbrow audiences worldwide, we’ve decided to come up with a list recommending six other arthouse body horror flicks for your viewing pleasure! After all, there’s no reason that fine cinema should be devoid of blood and malformed guts.

Match #1: Pete Dunne def. Sheamus The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Despite receiving loud jeers from the WWE Universe, an enraged Pete Dunne looked to take down his former mentor Sheamus. The chants seemed to distract Dunne as The Celtic Warrior dodged a hand crusher to perform an Alabama slam directly onto the announce table. Dunne withstood a monumental amount of punishment from The Celtic Warrior but kept fighting. After being brutalized with the 10 Beats of the Bodhran, Dunne went for the Shillelagh, but Sheamus wrenched it from Dunne’s hands. With the referee preoccupied with taking away the weapon from Sheamus, Dunne used a cricket bat to wallop Sheamus. Dunne then hit a huge knee strike to earn the big-time win.

“Heels” is now officially streaming both of its seasons on Netflix, giving the former Starz series a chance to capture a much bigger audience than it ever had before.
In an interview with Variety, series creator Michael Waldron joked that he and the show’s team would frequently discuss what it would be like if the show had debuted on Netflix originally.

As “WWE SmackDown” shifts channels from Fox to USA Network on Friday as part of WWE’s recent rights deal, the show’s viewership has been up 7% year over year in the key 18-49 demographic, according to data from Nielsen shared by the company. “SmackDown” has averaged 840,000 viewers in the demo per week this year to date, compared with 788,000 per week in the same period in 2023.
The show faces a challenging future, with viewership numbers likely to dip given the smaller overall penetration of USA Network on cable compared with broadcast network Fox, as well as the return of college football. But the “SmackDown” increase in real viewership is particularly impressive amid the ongoing decline of traditional linear programming, with the number of 18-49-year-olds watching TV overall down 13% vs.

With the UFC’s ESPN deal set to expire, Tko president-COO and former ESPN executive Mark Shapiro says the mixed martial arts league led by Dana White wants to ink a renewal with Disney during a three-month negotiating window from Jan. 15 to April 15.
No formal conversations have started but “it is our intention to re-sign with ESPN and Disney because they they’ve shown that they do it best. They understand synergy. They understand marketing. They do a great job technologically, with developing their platforms, engaging their consumers. And of course, ESPN flagship, which is their direct to consumer, is on the way. So we’re anxious to see what that’s all about and where we can fit in there,” he told investors at a Goldman Sachs media conference.

In the final moments of a match incorporating trash cans, tables, Kendo sticks, the Raw announce table, steel chairs, a fire extinguisher, steel steps. and even a ripped-loose ringside barricade, Uncle Howdy got involved in the action with a well-placed Sister Abigail and paved the way for Dexter Lumis to finish things off with an aerial attack from the top rope.

Commentor Joe Tessitore announced on the September 9 edition of the show that Raw will return to a two-hour format starting October 7. Raw will be two hours for the rest of the year. WWE later confirmed the news on all its social media pages. It is unclear how long the program will run once it moves from the USA Network to Netflix in January.
Raw went to a three-hour format in July 2013. Many fans liked seeing more talent, but many felt like the show dragged on. However, WWE made a lot of money by going in that direction as a company. It was reported by many outlets that...

For comedy fans of a certain age, watching VHS copies of the 1982 concert film “Richard Pryor: Live on the Sunset Strip” until the tape fell off of the spools was a rite of passage. Until Eddie Murphy‘s “Raw” dethroned it later in the 1980s, it was the most successful stand-up special of all time, and understandably so; marking Pryor‘s return to the stage after the freebasing accident that almost killed him, it was not only hilarious but revealing and poignant — the passage toward the end of the film in which Pryor personifies his crack pipe and acts out his own struggles with it is one of the most potent depictions of addiction ever put on screen.
The problem is that those VHS copies, as well as the blurry transfers on cable television where “Sunset Strip” was a staple for years, captured the greatness of Pryor’s performance but...

Netflix is once again mining some of Britain’s finest podcast IP by making a documentary about Sweet Bobby from All3Media-backed The Tinder Swindler producer Raw.
The popular Tortoise pod delivered a huge twist. It told the story of how broadcaster Kirat Assi became embroiled in an impossibly complex web of deception that lasted for more than a decade and involved many fabricated characters.
When Kirat met ‘Bobby’ on Facebook and embarked on a long-distance relationship with him, she believed she had found the love of her life. As it evolved from a friendship to an increasingly controlling romantic relationship, Kirat became subsumed into a web of deception, as Bobby’s explanations for why they couldn’t meet face to face became more and more extreme.
The story evoked themes of control and social media, and was hugely popular, turning into a live investigation.
