Born to one of the most influential figures in Hollywood, Jaden Smith had the privilege of exploring various career paths, from acting to music. And he did make notable strides in films like The Pursuit of Happyness and The Karate Kid and subsequently released three studio albums.

However, his acting career seems to have taken a back seat, with his last major film role in 2020. Despite his absence from notable on-screen roles in recent years, the 2018 teen drama, Skate Kitchen, where he starred alongside a real-life skater group, highlights why Smith should consider reigniting his acting career.

We found out that David Denman joined the cast of Peacemaker season 2 earlier this year, and the actor has now revealed a pretty big detail about the character he'll play.
Possible spoilers follow.
Denman shared an Instagram video of himself in the Peacemaker makeup chair getting heavy prosthetics applied with the caption "Just another day at the office."
Does this mean he's playing some kind of monster or alien? Not necessarily!
Though the photo has since been removed, a mural was recently spotted on set featuring John Cena's Peacemaker (wearing a slightly different costume), his father in his White Dragon outfit, and a mysterious third character who many believe will turn out to be Christopher Smith's brother, Keith.
This individual was also wearing a helmet, which might well be what Denman is being fitted for here.

Three years after the arrival of Justin Bieber‘s last studio album, the hitmaker is back in the recording studio with new music on the horizon!
The 30-year-old “Peaches” crooner and new dad hasn’t unleased an album since 2021′s Justice. In the years since, he’s hopped on a few collaborations but has largely taken a break from the recording industry.
In a new interview, one of Justin‘s collaborators confirmed that they were working on new music and reflected on the process.
Speaking to The New York Times, writer and producer Mk.gee said that he and Justin were collaborating.
“He’s searching,” he said about the hitmaker. “Anything that comes out of his mouth: That’s pop music. You can really do pretty wild stuff behind that, just because it represents something.”
It’s unclear if Justin is working on a follow-up to Justice or something else. However,...

In a seemingly unlikely pairing, Mk.gee (aka Michael Gordon) has been recruited by Justin Bieber to write and record new music.
The rising indie rocker opened up about hitting the studio with Bieber in a new interview with The New York Times. “He’s searching,” Mk.gee said. “Anything that comes out of his mouth: That’s pop music. You can really do pretty wild stuff behind that, just because it represents something.”

Mk.gee continued by explaining that he’s not necessarily chasing a pop sound, but rather “the promise of pop music” while carving out his own path. “Experimentalism has no meaning unless it’s done on the grandest scale,” he said. “I just don’t want to join somebody else’s citadel. I want to build my own thing, my own castle with my friends, because that’s what needed. And if people want to come,...

Laura Karpman will compose the score for Marvel’s “Captain America: Brave New World.“
Karpman is no stranger to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having scored the music to the Disney+ series, “What If…?” and “The Marvels.”
The fourth Captain America film stars Anthony Mackie as flying superhero Sam Wilson, formerly known as Cap’s sidekick the Falcon. Mackie takes the mantle over from Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, who starred in the previous three “Captain America” movies and the four “Avengers” movies.
This time around, Sam is greeted by Harrison Ford’s U.S. President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who wants to make Captain America a U.S. agent. The action heats up quickly as the superhero stops a would-be assassin at the White House. As previously confirmed, Ford’s Thunderbolt Ross will indeed, be transforming into the Red Hulk in the film.

James Gunn will soon be launching his version of the DC Universe with David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, and with this will come along multiple other characters that were previously either left in the dark or left unexplored. One of these widely speculated characters includes Lobo as well, the villain widely rumored to be embodied by Jason Momoa.
Corenswet in and as Superman. | @jamesgunn/Ig.
While Momoa has been vocal about his heartiest desire to play this unhinged interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter, nothing has been confirmed about even the character’s debut in this respective rebooted super-verse. But this villain is actually so iconic with some truly scary powers that seeing him face Corenswet’s Man of Steel is all we want to see after this.
Lobo is Scarier Than Fans’ Wildest Imaginations
Of all the comic book characters in comics, perhaps none holds as scary powers as Lobo.

When Masashi Kishimoto first introduced us to the Ninja World, this legendary trio of Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke were nothing but children. They were far from the powerful forces that they have grown up to be. Actually, the original Team 7 consisted of inexperienced genin stumbling to find their footing in a world of high-stakes ninjutsu.
Naruto from Naruto Shippuden
Naruto often plunged into reckless mistakes, Sakura’s smart nature did not translate to a great amount of prowess on the battlefield and Sasuke, with all his seemingly quiet confidence, concealed a deep wellspring of emotional turmoil. It was this very vulnerability that easily made the journey compelling, as they worked through issues such as friendship, rivalry, and self-discovery to forge the legendary heroes of the Naruto Saga.

Nickelodeon alum Daniella Monet hasn’t, and “probably won’t” ever, watch Quiet on Set. The actress also said this week she “came out unscathed” amid ongoing revelations about abuse on the network’s various shows throughout the early aughts and 2010s.

Developments around the 2005 disappearance of high school teen Natalee Holloway, which led to a media frenzy captivating families across the globe, remained stagnant for more than a decade. Despite the family officially declaring the Alabama teen dead in 2012, her disappearance fueled the cultural canon with true-crime TV programming, a Lifetime movie, and more books on Amazon than you care to count.
But it wasn’t until Joran van der Sloot, the primary suspect in her death, was extradited from Peru on extortion charges in 2023 and confessed to Holloway’s killing,...

Brazilian TV behemoth Globo presented its world premiere preview of Brazilian series “Justice: Misconduct” at Content Americas, while also spotlighting its 2024 slate, presenting via sleek fast-paced sizzle reels its array of ever popular telenovelas such as “Crossed Paths,” “Land of Desire,” and “Perfect Love” alongside teasing the continuation of its successful “Justice” series.
“Justice: Misconduct,” the series created by Manuela Dias, is a narrative of moral complexity and human connection framed by the dilemmas surrounding the notion of justice.
Season 1 debuted in 2016. Set against the richly textured backdrop of Recife in Brazil, the series unfolded through interconnected stories of characters navigating the turbulent waters of justice and redemption. Season 2 takes that success, building four new stories through its run. It switches geography too, an idea from director of the series Gustavo Fernández, placing the stories in Ceilândia, Brasilia and its environs. The first season’s success was highlighted by its...

Up Front & Letters
Dak uses some of the Up Front space in this issue to publish more letters. It’s all to do with this being the end of Ci’s first year and everyone involved is in a mood to celebrate. The letters are basically singing the praises of a job well done and it showcases how well it is selling across the country. There is nothing to write home about in Up Front. Only more of Dak highlighting a good year and rightfully so. He points out how most of not all of the comics featured in Ci have been hits with the fans. On a personal level, #6 of Comics Interview was a big deal because of fans wanting to know about the fallout from the Jla/Avengers incident. East Coast distribution sold out completely. All the good stuff is in the usual letters pages at the back.

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One Movie Review Rating:
Star Cast: Alexandra Daddario, Aldis Hodge, Matt Bomer, Jensen Ackles, Stana Katic, Jimmi Simpson
Director: Jeff Wamester
Director: Marv Wolfman, James Krieg
Review of Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One: A Disappointing Start to Crisis (Photo Credit – IMDb)
What’s Good: The voice cast, including Matt Bomer, Ashleigh Lathrop, and Christopher North, delivers performances on par with previous entries in the franchise. Bomer’s earnest portrayal of The Flash echoes the character’s Silver Age origins, while Lathrop and North contribute essential enthusiasm and finesse to their respective roles. Despite the film’s shortcomings, the voice actors bring their characters to life with notable performances.
What’s Bad: The film’s emotional core, the love tale between Barry Allen and Iris West, needs more depth, leaving the audience detached. The film struggles with internal contradictions, attempting to...

Not content with playing one character via :a[The Suicide Squad]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/reviews/the-suicide-squad/' }'s Weasel, it seems Sean Gunn has snagged another. While confirmation has yet to come from director James Gunn, Deadline reports that the younger Gunn (who has played a variety of roles in his brother's work) will pop up in films going forward as the villainous Maxwell Lord.
Lord's origins in the DC comic book universe date back to issue #1 of the 1987 Justice League comic book series, created by Keith Giffen, Jm DeMatteis and Kevin Maguire. At first glance, he's a cunning businessman and an ally to the members of the Justice League, who was fundamental in orchestrating Justice League International. His unsuspecting charm even won over characters such as Blue Beetle and the Martian Manhunter.

Sean Gunn, who audiences may know from his performance as the Ravager pirate Kraglin from writer/director James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy" franchise, has reunited with his older brother once again and joined the growing cast of the new DC Universe. According to Deadline, Sean Gunn will play Maxwell Lord, the DC Comics villain previously played by Pedro Pascal in Patty Jenkins' "Wonder Woman 1984." It's unclear if Lord will have a cameo role in James Gunn's "Superman: Legacy," but Deadline says the character will at least be referenced in the background of that movie and will appear in future DC projects. Will Sean be able to bring a similar level of goofiness to the role, or does James have something else in mind for this character? More on that in a minute.
While I typically like Sean Gunn as an actor, I'm kind of hoping he doesn't pop up in "Superman: Legacy,...

Deadline reports that Sean Gunn will play Maxwell Lord in the new DC Universe. The evil businessman was previously played by Pedro Pascal in Wonder Woman 1984.
It’s not known if Sean Gunn will appear as Maxwell Lord in Superman: Legacy, which will be written and directed by James Gunn, but Deadline has heard that the character will merely be mentioned in the background, setting the stage for a future DC appearance. Maxwell Lord first appeared in Justice League #1 in 1987 and wasn’t originally a villain, but he later became an adversary to the Justice League and to Wonder Woman in particular. Although he initially had no abilities, he later gained the power to telepathically influence the minds of others.

The Justice League and the Huntsmen are back in Justice League x Rwby: Super Heroes & Huntsmen, Part Two, to conclude the underwhelming story from April’s part one. Other than commercial considerations, there is no real reason for the two teams to be paired together; no real character and dramatic opportunities are present, which may be why the story doesn’t really work.
We force the Jl heroes to be transformed into teen versions of themselves and brought to the Huntsmen’s world, working across Remnant’s four kingdoms of Vale, Mistral, Atlas, and Vacuo to fight the good fight. Firehouse 51 is gearing up to welcome back one of its own.
Taylor Kinney is set to return to Chicago Fire for the NBC drama’s 12th season, which will begin production following resolution of the actors strike. Sources say the Chicago Fire writers room has written Kinney’s Kelly Severide back into the show in early episodes; it’s unclear at the moment whether the character will be back for good or just for a handful of episodes.
Kinney took a leave of absence from the series in the latter part of the 2022-23 season for what sources described as a personal matter. On screen, Severide’s absence was explained by saying the character was attending an arson investigation program, and the show implied he would return. In his first episode away, a conversation between Capt. Van Meter (Tim Hopper) and Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) suggested that when Severide completed the program,...

Justin Bieber seems to be moving towards ending his working relationship with longtime manager, Scooter Braun. Or at least that’s what a new report from Puck News claims, citing multiple sources who’ve confirmed that Bieber and Braun “haven’t spoken in months.”

Set about 40 years from the present day, Last Sentinel follows a platoon of four soldiers who are stranded on a military base waiting for relief. This world is now covered in water with only two land masses, who are now at war. Now three months past their duty time, the soldiers are wondering whether the relief will come at all, or if it is the enemy who will find them first.
There is plenty to enjoy about Last Sentinel. Right from the first few seconds you can see that it either has a decent budget or the small budget is used very well. I can only assume that much of it was shot at sea but even the shots where we don’t see the ocean, you really do feel like they are...

In February 2023, Netflix will remove a bunch of movie and TV series from its library,
Netflix UK and Netflix US takes down numerous titles each month without fanfare, meaning that many things on your watchlist could suddenly disappear.
These removals are due to licencing deals coming to an end. Often, the titles make their way back to Netflix in the following year, but sometimes they leave to go to other platforms.
This month sees a selection of Netflix Originals being taken down, also.
To minimise surprise, we have put together a comprehensive list of everything being removed in both Netflix UK and US.
Nb: The Independent compiled this list with help from What’s on Netflix.

Four years ago this month, Nikole Hannah-Jones, the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist behind The 1619 Project, first pitched the idea for the long-form journalism initiative to her editor at The New York Times Magazine. Since then, the original essay project has been adapted into a podcast, a book and now a six-part docuseries on Hulu in partnership with Disney, ABC and Onyx Collective.
“It’s been so amazing because usually you publish something and then you’re done with it, you don’t ever get a chance to refine it, to expand it,” Hannah-Jones told The Hollywood Reporter at the series’ Los Angeles premiere on Thursday night. “Every iteration of the project, I learned something more, about the history and about myself.”
Kathleen Lingo, an executive producer on the show and editorial director of film and television for The New York Times, said that she immediately knew the project was primed for the screen.

As the first in-person Sundance Film Festival since 2020 draws to a close, it’s time to see which films are taking home the festival’s most coveted awards. While there are many ways to measure success at Sundance — and many filmmakers are certainly more interested in a big sale than a trophy — the awards are nevertheless an important way of measuring which films resonated with the Park City crowd.
Friday’s award ceremony is the culmination of what has already been a very eventful festival. Despite the multitude of changes that the independent film world and the streaming industry are currently undergoing, this year’s festival still featured its share of buzzy premieres and splashy acquisitions. One of the most talked about movies in Park City has been Chloe Domont’s erotic thriller “Fair Play,” which sold to Netflix for a reported price of 20 million. The festival also featured some...

Nikole Hannah-Jones has given hundreds — or perhaps thousands — of interviews since she first published “The 1619 Project” in The New York Times Magazine in 2019. But when speaking to Variety ahead of the launch of the project’s six-part Hulu docuseries adaptation, the journalist says she’s feeling anxious. “This is a time of great anticipation and nerves,” Hannah-Jones says. “We really put our heart into this documentary, but it’s a different medium for me, and I felt a bit out of my element.”
She continues: “I know how to write a great magazine piece. I had to really depend on my collaborators — who were wonderful — to try to produce a great documentary, so we will see what the people say.”
So much of the production of “The 1619 Project” was new for the journalist — and cultural lightning rod — turned executive producer. One of the biggest hurdles was learning to conduct her interviews on camera.

The 2023 Sundance Film Festival opened with the surprise announcement of a new documentary. However, Doug Liman’s Brett Kavanaugh-themed “Justice” wasn’t the only non-fiction exposé that secretly made its way to Park City. Until it premiered at the festival January 21, the festival site billed U.S. Documentary Competition selection “Beyond Utopia” as a look at “various individuals as they attempt to flee one of the most oppressive places on Earth,” but didn’t specify the location.
The location in question is North Korea, and the movie delivers an eye-opening look at defectors who cross its Chinese border. Sources tell IndieWire that Sundance refused to name North Korea in its official description until after the premiere. That decision came out of concern that the movie could lead to security threats from the country, not unlike the Sony hack that destabilized the studio ahead of 2014 satire “The Interview.”

At the premiere of U.S. Documentary Competition title “Going Varsity in Mariachi,” the Q&a featured a rousing performance by the Edinburg North High School’s Mariachi Oro. Members of the “Theater Camp” cast performed a show tune at the premiere of their U.S. Dramatic Competition crowdpleaser. And at the screening of another hotly anticipated sales title, “Magazine Dreams,” the competition jury walked out in protest when captioning was not available for juror Marlee Matlin.
In short, Sundance is back and looks remarkably like its usual self with some excitement here, some disappointment there. That, along with a surprise screening (Doug Liman’s Brett Kavanaugh doc “Justice”), a little controversy (everyone will leave knowing what “open captions” mean), and a lot of snow make for a comfortingly familiar festival experience after a three-year gap.
