Filmed mostly in Bombay Beach, CA.
Jeremiah Noe plays Mickey's uncle, one of the men who abandoned Mickey's town to find a better life, and who Mickey runs into in a bar at the end of the movie. Noe has no previous acting experience. Director Bruce Thierry Cheung met Noe in a bar while scouting filming locations, explained the film's themes of fatherhood and abandonment of children, and spontaneously gave him a cold audition. Cheung called the audition "stunning" and decided to cast him right then and there.
Based on the 2005 novel Please Don't Come Back From The Moon by Dean Bakopoulos. The novel was set near Detroit, but writer and director Bruce Thierry Cheung changed the setting to the Imperial Valley in California, filming mostly in Bombay Beach, an abandoned resort town on the Salton Sea. Bakopoulos collaborated with Cheung on the film as a co-writer.
The film's director Bruce Thierry Cheung also co-directed Future World (2018) with James Franco which also stars Jeff Wahlberg. Both films were shot throughout the Imperial Valley in Southeast California.
