Realistic, Highly Relatable, Sad & Heartbreaking
I watched this movie at the phase of failures in life (not love). I wasn't concentrating on my career and was just hanging around watching movies and stuff. This movie opened my eyes! Most of the things you'd see in this movie, are relatable and many already occured.
Talking about this movie, it grips you from the start. The first half is amazing. Ayushmann, once again, did a fantastic job. However, Parineeti, at times, was okay. The movie overall is an emotional and completely realistic journey of a Writer, to which I could relate to a great extent being a Writer too. However, for me, the thing that draws me back a little and makes me think it's heartbreaking and sad is it's end. I know many liked the end too, but I hated it. I hated Parineeti too. The end could have been a lot better although some liked it more.
If anyone thinks I'm this poor Writer, hang on. Rating a movie which made you feel sad and depressed won't be something for anyone to judge. You can read my other 40 reviews from my account info in case you're not reading from your cell phone.
Yes, I recommend to watch this movie. Above Average!

Deserves more rating then 5.6 !!
mere pyare bindu is story of two childhood friends...when someone reads this he/she feels there is nothing new in it.. !! we have legendary movie on this topic..kuch kuch hota hai !! which z beautiful story of two friends n their love lives !! but this story is different n the most important thing is its ending..well while watching a movie one expect a happy ending,i too expected a same n when that doesn't happen i felt a lump in throat but that's what makes this movie more close to reality!!more close to real life,in life every thing z not a fairy tale..every story don't have a happy ending ..n one must learn to cope up with loss n move on while cherishing the happy moments of one's story !! same happens in this movie !! song at the end says it all. n the looks which abhimanyu n bindu exchange says it all !! but there are some loop wholes in story..untold story of bindu !! one can understand why she left abhimanyu as she was always uncertain..impatient girl..n at that moment she felt heartbroken n lost...BUT why did she agree to marry ??what she found in that new man which was lacking in abhimanyu ??what was missing in her n abhimanyu relationship that she finds with That new man !! as towards end bindu said this z ure story mine would be diff..writer should share her story too !! i think this n there not happily ever after ending z the main reason of all bad comments..

Very Good
Those who are finding the acting pathetic, please go get a life. She acted much better than Sonam in Neerja. Ayushman was really great, so was everyone else. The Bong family of Ayushman was something with you could easily connect to. The potrail had quite some depth.
After Raanjhnaa, this is the first movie which had some catchy and creative dialogues. Editing is some what of a set back. But the film will never make you want to look at the watch. :D

Makes an unfinished love story look beautiful
Not once was I be able to take my eyes off Ayushmann and Parineeti's love condition. These two have figured out how to gel up so well that the little alcoves of their connections wake up. Ayushmann, as the 'no-tantrums' guy hopelessly in love who is later stuck in being a wordsmith, does wonders. 'Meri Pyaari Bindu' will certainly be considered one of Parineeti's best performances ever, no questions asked. Next ones to steal the show are Ayushmann's parents played by Rajatava Dutta and Aparajita Adhya.
Suprotim Sengupta's screenplay comes around as the following Mantra of achievement. It is affectionate, yet not choking. It gives you enough space to enjoy what's occurring, however you don't lose your direction halfway. Akshay Roy's directorial introduction will doubtlessly talk for his aptitudes of narrating. Roy has, before, helped somebody as flexible as Farhan Akhtar and furthermore somebody as veteran as Mira Nair. He is somebody you got the opportunity to pay special mind to. The sun-lit visuals must be a result of him picturing them for a considerable length of time! And afterward, we adored how the film grasps each misfortune with a sentiment satisfaction.
Sachin-Jigar's music includes only the correct state of mind; from the beginning sentiments of calf love to the distress of seperation and each other little curve that offers a space. Tushar Kanti Roy's cinematography focuses on catching the important minutes and not simply insignificant visuals; which makes everything the more successful.

Trailers were better than the movie!!!!!!
I found the trailers more interesting than the movie!! My expectation level was quite high from the trailers thought this movie will be something out of the box, the story will not be a typical Bollywood rom-com. The movie had many open plots like why did Bindu left abhi and later what made her change her mind and get settled???? Movie lacks many things proper story, good humour, enough grip to keep the audience adhesive till the end. The best part about the movie are the songs which one can listen to countless times.

Beautiful for those who understand
I feel meri pyaari bindu is one of the most mature (emotionally) films in the film industry of Bollywood.
It's been beautifully crafted and both the lead actors are just fantastic.
It's a unique film for those who understand and have the courage to face it will like it. For those who think that it's another love story will dislike it. Well, u can't blame those too.
As a viewer you you want a happy ending when you come out of the cinema but this movie very close to the reality.
The use of old songs in the movie has been brilliantly used. Kudos to the director for this courageous movie.
If you look at an overview this isn't the movie but a story of one's perspective and why I feel this movie didn't get much attention. For me it's a 9/10. As for general audience it's 7/10.

Lighthearted, but Soulless!
'Meri Pyaari Bindu' has its heart at the right place, no doubts on that. But, in terms of Soul, its a miss. Director Akshay Roy delivers a film on love & longing, but is unable to make you feel the pain or the joy of its bruising leading-man. It only works in parts.
'Meri Pyaari Bindu' Synopsis: A successful writer Abhimanyu Roy (Ayushmann Khurrana), stuck with writers block, returns to his roots to write an old-fashioned love story, which ends up to be his own & how Bindu (Parineeti Chopra), changed his life for better or worse.
'Meri Pyaari Bindu' begins well & the sequences involving Abhimanyu aka Bubla's Eccentric Bengali Family, are a joy to watch. And even when the story goes back in the past, the interactions between Bubla & Bindu, offer charm. And though things get wobbly soon enough, yet you're in your seat safely till the interval. Its the second-hour that dampens 'Meri Pyaari Bindu' to great levels. Abhimanyu & Bindu's longgggg journey from friends to lovers, is unappealing. The second-hour simply doesn't connect, as the narrative takes a dip & doesn't rise above. Even the culmination, is overlong & might make you restless. What begins as a sweet friendship-turned-into-love story, turns into an overlong story about people who just aren't sure about life or themselves!
The Writing is lighthearted, but soulless. I liked the first-hour to a large extend, but the second-hour, is a slog. And one is never sure about Bindu's erratic behavior towards Abhimanyu, nor does Abhimanyu's longing wait, make you melt, as the characters aren't well-etched out. A much better Screenplay was the need of the day! The Dialogue, however, are good, although its protagonist's continuous narration throughout, gets repetitive.
Akshay Roy's Direction is decent, but the Writing pulls the efforts down. He has the talent, but it needs to be backed with a better Script. I particularly enjoyed how he began the film, with the Goddess Durga roaming over the stunning city of Kolkata. Cinematography, Editing & Sachin-Jigar's Score are top-notch. And the use of retro Bollywood Music, Is Always Welcome!
Performance-Wise: Ayushmann Khurrana is extremely likable. As the long-waiting lover protagonist, Ayushmann delivers a first-rate performance. He holds the film & even his Voice-Over work throughout, is credible, although there is a lot of it! Parineeti Chopra is earnest as Bindu, but her character isn't entirely understandable. The on-screen chemistry between Ayushmann & Parineeti, is nice. Rajatabha Dutta & Aparajita Auddy, as Ayushmann's eccentric parents, are simply fantastic. The actor who portrays the part of Ayushmann's manager, is also terrific. Nishant Dahiya sparkles in a cameo.
On the whole, 'Meri Pyaari Bindu' is only partly appealing. Disappointing!

Musical romance to assist people to forget their long lost love
Director, Akshay Roy promises to enlighten his audience with the art to forget ones true love through this creation. The movie recreates the magic of 80's through retro style music and old streets of Kolkata. It is yet another love story where the crazy lover goes head over heels just to have a 'yes' of the heartless, ambitiously-confused girl. Movie aims to focus on unconventional aspects of love but it ends up in a tangle as the various sub plots aren't worked well to the details.
Strength: The music. Timeline in which the story is built, gives it essence of a fresh love story.
Weakness: It's just another love story.

'Meri Pyaari Bindu' belongs to a forgotten era where love used to happen over a cup of coffee, shared biryani and recorded audio cassettes...
Towards the end of the movie, Abhimanyu and Bindu keep staring at each other. Living the lives that they chose for themselves or rather, fate chose for them, they lovingly look at each other, ignoring their individual status quo.
That one moment defined the entire film for me.
'Meri Pyaari Bindu' belongs to a forgotten era where love used to happen over a cup of coffee, shared biryani and recorded audio cassettes. It's a bittersweet love story that brings a lump to the throat, yet you never lose that smile from the face. The characters are as real as the next door neighbours. The pain and the anguish that the couple face, is something that everyone can relate to. But the love can only be felt by those, who have loved and lost.
Kudos to Suprotim Sengupta for such exquisite writing.

It will give you a Tight Nostalgia Memory, which you can definitely relate! If you ever Fell in Luv or had a Crush on anyone long back in 80s/90s Era!
This Movie is definitely for all those 80s, 90s individuals who started their journey with Audio Cassettes. It belongs to a forgotten era where we Childs/Teens used to call our friends over One common Family Landline number, Listening to Old evergreen songs in Audio Cassettes with the help of Tape Recorders, Listening to the Radios, To Watch Doordarshan Channel with excitements over those long times of Antenna Revolvings to finding Signal. OMG! Wish I had a Timeline to go that Era again and to live those non-internet, non-smartphone life.
This Movie is Musically too good. All the old nostalgia movie dialogues,Evergreen Songs, 90s Era's representation and that too with Bengali touch OMG delighted to watch. I know many people will not like it because of the complexity there at the ending but trust me guys, if you belongs to that Old 90s Era then consider it at least once, You'll re-Live those old memories again for sure.
Ayushmaan Khurana- The Realistic Acting, Those beautiful emotions, Heartfelt Dialogues and his dedication towards Own music is damn good to watch. He Never disappointed me and no doubt he's my no.1 FAVORITE ACTOR in Bollywood Industry.
Pariniti Chopra- She's totally cool in this entire movie. She tried to act like badaas girl and her beauty justified her Acting as well and the Female version of Maana ke hum Yaar nahin, Woow Beautiful voice (Although I liked my Fav Sonu Nigam's version so much, but still female version was also too good to listen) .
I'll go with 7 Out of 10 Stars definitely, because I watched it's reviews over YouTube and non of the movie critics rated it well, that's the reason i was so late to watching this movie, but after watching it I can definitely say 80s/90s people can relate it so well and at least One time Watchable.

I'll be wrapped around your finger
I quote Gulzar Saab here:
"Qadam usi mod par jame hain
Nazar samete hue khada hoon
Junoon yeh majboor kar raha hai palat ke dekhoon"
They say that you never forget your first crush, first love. Meri Pyari Bindu is a very mature introspection of the most possible outcome of childhood romance. Abhimanyu Roy (Ayushman Khurana) is hopelessly wrapped around the finger of Bindu Shankarnarayan (Parineeti Chopra), his neighbour and childhood crush. He aspires to be a writer and she, a rockstar. He is grounded and deeply loyal, she is almost Bohemian. The accidental death of her mother serves as a catalyst for her breaking free from family bonds and leading a different life. But time stands still for Abhimanyu - he cannot forget her and doesn't want to. Then life brings them together on several occasions - and their relationship goes through a strange waxing and waning of romance.
It's a brilliantly made film in the romantic genre. It touches the heart with its simple and realistic narration of unrequited love, loyalty, nostalgia and values. It has the potential of being treated as a classic but just falls short of a "Jab We Met". Why? Because Bindu's character is something that you don't easily associate with and you would probably admonish her for being indecisive and almost cruel towards the hero, who walks away with all empathy. Therefore, it may appear slightly disengaging and disjointed at times.
Calcutta looks stunning as the backdrop. The family is gorgeously and gloriously Bengali and the whole treatment is endearing. Aparajita Adhya and Rajatava Dutta are simply delightful. Ayushman Khurana is adorable and romps away with a powerful performance. Parineeti has the strongest role and does full justice to it with the shades of white and grey. Music is mind blowing.

Toxic Femininity
1 star is too much for this film, it should get points in negative.
This isn't a cute love story and some people are saying. Playing with the feelings of men is not a matter of fun and this kind of action should not be portrayed as normal thing.
Just reverse the genders and see the outrage of the people who are liking this film. Imagine if a man was running from his to be weddings and playing with the emotions of various women including his childhood friend then would that be applauded like this film is being applauded by some people?
Either Bindu should have been jailed or sent to a mental hospital.

Offbeat and interesting
Unlike the traditional Bollywood 'boy-meets-girl', this flick has explored a creative angle that is a welcome change in the otherwise formulaic industry whose plots are evident and the songs are totally out of context.
The star of the movie is scriptwriter Supratim Sengupta who has come up with an interesting premise - the love story of a horror writer who is reminded of the good old days by a chance discovery of a music cassette that has ten memorable songs. A very clever wrapper for the conventional Bollywood format where the songs have found a context finally!
There are lot of things going well for this movie - the soundtrack is great, some of the side performances are good and the setting of Kolkata as well as the homes of the two lead characters create a very comfortable scenario as the story rolls out.
The only problem in this movie is that the narration is all over the place, leaving the viewer thoroughly confused. One, there is too much of a shift in the time line from present day to flashback. Two, there are too many incidents (backed by the songs) that come too often creating an unsettling viewing experience. And Three, there are too many places where the multitude of incidents are rapidly rolling out. So for the viewer it is quite a task to keep track of the time, the progress of the plot and the location. All the ingredients of each scene are great but the way they have been sequenced is confusing.
Instead, the director could have opted for a simple, linear narrative, where Acts 1 and 3 are in the present and only Act 2 is totally in flashback.
Setting: Kolkata. Time: Present.
ACT 1 -Context: Writer is unable to progress on the love story due to writer's block.
PLOT POINT 1: Light in the top floor barsati opp gets him to visit the room, bringing back memories of his love. Finds the cassette and stands there thinking of the past (Maana ke hume pyaar nahin in bg - rain sequence). Comes back to his typewriter with the cassette and types out (FILM TITLE).
ACT 2: Flashback as he writes the whole story with incidents and relevant explanations with voice over creating an impression that they are both falling in love with each other.
MID POINT: The accident that turns things around and subsequent drifting of the two lovers leading to (INTERVAL).
PLOT POINT 2: further negative incidents and finally the negative twist in his love, subsequent reactions.
ACT 3: Present day where he is finalizing the draft and tears out the last few pages as it is very unhappy. Novels don't have to reflect real life and real characters so he gives it a positive ending in the novel, that is communicated by --
ENDING: hands over the script copy to the female lead who is in the attic, reads out the positive ending of the novel. (CREDITS)

"Meri Pyaari Bindu" might be the long lost cassette you might be searching to play and listen to after all these years.
It is a well directed movie. It is engaging because of the narrative. The complex tale of feeling of love has been brought out beautifully. The songs sound even better with the narrative. The feeling of 'happy pain' lingers through even after the movie gets over, you shall know why. Ayushman and Parineeti, along with others have done a great job. Nothing has been overdone in this story. Even though one wishes an alternate ending, one knows it is quite a realistic take. Despite the liberty that the story writer has to kindle a ray of hope at least on the silver screen, this time the path taken does so but also says that it might just not go according to one's plans, for reasons good or bad. The best part is love as it looks to be the connecting point, sometimes becomes the very reason for the loved one's departure. One doesn't know if Bindu loved Bubla less or she just couldn't live a certain situation of it. Nothing is certain. People move on in real life too, and it is a conscious decision to do so, others stay with it. Some love stories are better preserved, than touched and lived by for over the years, they are destined to be like that. It is pristine that way. The constant feeling of certain kind of immense bonding between Bindu and Bubla resonates throughout the story and it is lovely. The bond undefined and unnamed is the best part. It is love of a certain kind, let's not go into working our ways through platonic love and all that, let's just not. This is love andit works. It is painful, it still is worth all the effort.
One time watch for old music and a good laugh
Ayushman never fails to impress. It was a light hearted love story with music from the golden age playing in the background

Poignant !!
It's a welcome breather from the drudgery of the typical north Indian love stories flushed with clichéd wedding scenes, conventional college boy meets girl plots and loud music force fitted with some Desi rap. The movie marvelously captures the magic of Kolkata through the eyes of Abhimanyu, the warmth of a close knit neighbourhood , the intimacy and casual flirtation among friends typified by the dumb charades scene and the liberal home dynamics where talking about boyfriends or sex for that matter doesn't come attached with a taboo. The plot continues to enthrall now collecting the best moments of a Mumbai life through a series of scenes starting with a Nariman point stroll, late night ruminations sitting at the marine drive with feet dangling precariously over the odd shaped stones, a multicultural bachelor pad fraught with late night pranks on a stunning balcony and an adorable proposal on the cosy streets of Colaba. And finally the climax where Abhimanyu is content with the amazing time spent with this incredible Bengalan and taking the best part of the relationship in his stride before moving on, unlike the vast majority of the audience who take Bindu's rejection of his proposal as a personal insult and a sign of defeat venting out their frustrations in the reviews.

Nice, But Parineeti Chopra was not good for this role
Nice Script, But what I felt is that Parineeti Chopra was not made for this role or wise-versa. In many places in the movie, she was not good at all. Ayushmann played his role brilliantly. Movie has the classic feeling, cassettes, old feelings, and .... i don't have words. 90's kids are going to miss this memories very much. Nice movie, Watch it alone. Don't Watch it with your stupid girlfriend, she will stray away. (Just Kidding). Watch it

Pathetic !!!
A waste of time and money !! I expected the movie to be at least a one time watch, but it was not even that. Many sub plots of the movie have been left midway. The makers have tried very hard to make the female lead character unconventional, but the way the movie ends make her the typical heroine of mainstream cinema.

Shaky Start Picks up a bit in the middle Ends Strong.
If you were born in the 80s lived through the roaring 90s and were there at the end of the century to welcome it this movie is for you, its a story of a bygone era much before internet and mobile phones and Ipads changed our life's for better or worse, its those days when Mithun Chakraborty singing and dancing to 'I am a disco dancer' would send anyone into raptures or anyone who has ever made a mixed tape for a girlfriend or when a girl would call you on your home landline and everyone would want to know who it was? its a story of a time when intelligent and smart meant how many books you had read not how you look or how many likes you got on Facebook or Instagram, its a story of Friendship Love Heartbreak Loneliness but most importantly Longing for something that you cannot have, its a story that will evoke memories that will take you to a place in time and just leave you there, its a story for people like us who have some fond memories to remember, this story had such a promising premise and it could have been so much better but alas it lacked the execution, parineeti is a good actress but she seems completely unconvincing from the start, looks like she didn't take to the story its only towards the end that she rescues the role given to her, personally i would have much preferred a Yami Goutam or Bhumi pednekar for this role, the director also doesn't do a convincing enough job to give the story an 80s or 90s feel which this story desperately needed and Ayushman does a decent enough job with what he is given but this movie could have been so much more then how it turned out, the story had its heart in the right place unfortunately the people involved couldn't breathe life into it, the only saving grace for this movie is that it does a great job towards the end and honestly one of the best endings in recent times, its leaves you nostalgic and in that moment you feel like you could forgive the people associated with this movie for not doing a better job, All in all it was a missed opportunity, this could have turned out epic if only it had better execution but Alas!
I wouldn't recommend it for everyone, if you are in your 30s or more this movie is for you if not stay away, most people who are dissing this Movie i can understand its not meant for the millennial generation who have grown up on a steady diet of Facebook Instagram Twitter or Tinder, you will probably have to wait for 10 or 20 years when someone makes a similar movie and maybe then you will understand the power of memories, just towards the end of the movie there is a scene where Ayushmann and Parineeti look at each other and there is so much said without uttering a single word, its just beyond amazing, that was the whole movie for me right there.
You have to make memories first to fully understand and Appreciate them.
