The location (Clown Motel) for this film is an actual, purportedly haunted motel, in the desert town of Tonopah. It was featured on an episode of the reality paranormal show, "Ghost Adventures" (2008). It was S:11 EP:10 and aired on October 24th, 2015 on the Travel Channel.
A specific fear of clowns has sometimes been discussed in terms of a specific phobia. The term COULROPHOBIA is informally used, but is not recognized by the World Health Organization nor the American Psychological Association.
As of July 2017, the Clown Motel is for sale at $900,000. The new owner must promise to keep the clown theme.
