This show was produced/written by many of the same team that worked on Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005) and The Legend of Korra (2012).
This is the fourth Voltron TV show.
The designers looked at the Gundam mecha shows for influence on Voltron's design.
Weird Al Yankovic appears as a guest voice in one episode. In his video, "The Compleat Al," (1985) there was a sequence where his entourage was getting his hotel room ready. They covered a classical painting with a large photo of Voltron.
