Mel Gibson still plans to direct Lethal Weapon 5. It’s written, but Gibson admits the film is being held up, and he doesn’t know why.
Mel Gibson has been primarily staying behind the camera of late for his filmmaking, his assorted controversies leaving his leading man status pretty much irreparably damaged. As a director, he’s completed his latest movie – Flight Risk, which is due early next year – and he’s been juggling The Passion Of The Christ 2 as well.
But also, following the passing on director Richard Donner, he’s also announced his intention to direct Lethal Weapon 5, offering another swansong for the characters of Riggs and Murtaugh, as played by Gibson and Danny Glover.
It comes over 25 years after the rushed Lethal Weapon 4, and before he died, Richard Donner had been working on the film. Reportedly, before he passed, he asked Gibson to direct Lethal Weapon 5 instead.

Actor Jim Caviezel has been in the business since the early ‘90s. While he gained notoriety as an able supporting actor, he hit it big with The Thin Red Line and went on to perform in his most famous role to date The Passion of the Christ. The actor’s struggles while filming Mel Gibson’s Biblical epic is nothing short of a pop culture legend.
Caviezel has worked with a host of acclaimed filmmakers over the years. While he had early roles in Lawrence Kasdan’s Wyatt Earp and Gus Van Sant’s My Own Private Idaho, he gained prominence when he worked with the likes of Terrence Mallick, Ang Lee, and Tony Scott. Here are ten of his best roles in film and TV.

Mel Gibson isn't sure whether he will direct 'The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection' before 'Lethal Weapon 5'.The 68-year-old star is due to helm the follow-up to the 2004 historical drama as well as the next instalment into the action franchise but has now admitted the production schedules for both movies are up in the air. When ComicBook.com asked the 'Braveheart' actor which film he'd tackle first, he said: "I don't know, and that's the funny thing."I mean, there's various obstacles to getting any film up on its feet, and not just budgetary, but there's like, there's 1,000,001 reasons why something goes and why it doesn't. "So it's really kind of a c***shoot at this point what goes first and which came first, whether it's the chicken or the egg."In 2021, Gibson revealed he would be directing a sequel to 1998's 'Lethal Weapon 4...

Mel Gibson has been developing two high-profile sequels — Lethal Weapon 5 and The Passion of the Christ 2 — but he isn’t sure which project he’ll direct first.
“I don’t know, and that’s the funny thing,” Gibson told ComicBook.com. “I mean, there’s various obstacles to getting any film up on its feet, and not just budgetary, but there’s like, there’s 1,000,001 reason why something goes and why it doesn’t. So it’s really kind of a crapshoot at this point what goes first and which came first, whether it’s the chicken or the egg.“
Richard Donner directed the first four movies in the Lethal Weapon franchise, but after he passed away, the responsibility for the fifth installment fell to Gibson. “I’m going to direct the fifth film in the Lethal Weapon series. You know, Richard Donner, who did the other four, sadly passed away.

“Every man dies, not every man truly lives”, declared Braveheart’s William Wallace. But let’s be honest—how many of us can say we’ve truly lived unless we’ve had Mel Gibson by our side, lending a hand in the dead of night?
Gibson, a name that sends a tingle down the spine of movie buffs and historians of 80s and 90s cinema alike, isn’t just known for his legendary roles on-screen. He started with humble beginnings on the stage before gracing our TV screens in The Sullivans and Cop Shop.

And as luck would have it, even when he’s not wielding a sword or tearing through a post-apocalyptic landscape, he’s a road warrior in real life. In an old viral video, Gibson is seen lending a helping hand to a stranded citizen, showing that his off-screen heroism is just as compelling.

If there is one thing that we know about Hollywood it is that they love their sequels and prequels. While there is nothing wrong with it, fans of cinema would really like the studios to focus on new and original stories instead of making cash grabs that use nostalgia to bring in the audience. Now, Jim Caviezel’s The Passion of the Christ has become the latest victim to it all.

After years of discussion and development, the sequel to The Passion of the Christ is reportedly slated to begin filming in 2025. According to Italian news agency Italpress, director Mel Gibson is currently in Malta with a production team to scout potential filming locations for The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection, which will feature Jim Caviezel returning to play Jesus.
Other reported shooting locations include Israel and Morocco. Francesco De Vito, who played Peter in the original, is also expected to return alongside Caviezel.
The Passion of the Christ, which premiered in 2004, earned over $600 million at the box office and received three Oscar nominations. Since then, Gibson has expressed interest in continuing the story. The script has reportedly undergone multiple drafts and revisions by Randall Wallace, a writer who worked with Gibson on the original film and earned an Oscar nomination for Braveheart. In April, Wallace confirmed that the screenplay had finally been completed.

A fresh report suggests that the long-gestating buddy cop sequel Lethal Weapon 5 will shoot next year, with Mel Gibson in the director’s chair.
We know that a fifth entry in the Lethal Weapon series has been in the works for a long time. The late, great Richard Donner – director of the first four films – was working on it before he passed away in 2021. Then, in the same year we heard that Mel Gibson, one half of the series’ leading duo was set to take over the directorial reins. Of course, a lot has happened in the world since 2021, with a lot of that turbulence directly affecting Hollywood film production. However, despite all of the uncertainty, Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman (via World of Reel) is reporting that Lethal Weapon 5 will shoot next year.

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph! This afternoon, a new rumor is sweeping across social media, suggesting Mel Gibson is ready to shoot The Passion of the Christ 2 later this year. To be absolutely clear, Jordan Ruimy, who writes for World of Reel, cites no sources for this exclusive information. According to Ruimy, Gibson is re-teaming with The Passion of the Christ actor Jim Caviezel for the sequel, The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection. The report suggests Resurrection has been developing for almost a decade.
Ruimy says The Passion of the Christ 2 focuses on “the twenty-four hours encompassing Jesus’ passion and the events that occurred three days between his crucifixion and resurrection.”
Regardless of this news not having been officially confirmed by Gibson, a follow-up has been rumoured about for years, with many wondering whether Jim Caviezel would be too old to reprise his role if they focus on the resurrection,...

Any movie based on a beloved book with a massive built-in audience that made over $600 million at the box office would instantly have the studio heads rubbing their hands in glee with dollar signs in their eyes and franchise potential on their minds, but you wouldn’t have thought those rules would apply to the Bible.
Never mind the fact that there’s only one book to mine for source material, but Jesus’ arc seemed to have a pretty definitive ending. That being said, faith-based movies have always done respectable business among the target demographic, and Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ was the biggest of them all after pulling in the kind of numbers that a $100 million action blockbuster would kill for.

Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ 2 will probably be his biggest project yet, but what can we expect to see from the long-awaited sequel?

Work continues on Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ 2, and if the words of its writer are any indication, the film will be even more epic than we originally thought.
After more than 16 years, Gibson is still developing his sequel to The Passion of the Christ. The original movie, which showed the final hours of Jesus’ life and crucifixion, became a heated topic of debate for many years after its release. The excessive violence in depicting torture, an alleged anti-semitic agenda, and the movie’s allusion to Biblical accuracy all fanned the flames of controversy. Not that Gibson cared much about any of them, mind you. Now, after working his way to popularity again with Hacksaw Ridge, the director wishes to tackle several fundamental Christian notions like Hell and the fall of Angels in the sequel.

It’s Easter weekend, in which we mark the anniversary of Jesus being nailed to the cross by dressing up as rabbits and exchanging chocolate eggs. And in this time of worship, there’s one name that often comes to our lips. I am, of course, talking about The Beaver star Mel Gibson, whose 2004 film The Passion of the Christ retold the crucifixion story in impressively gory fashion.
Jim Caviezel, who played Jesus, recently gave an interview where he revealed that he took a real-life beating during filming. And as a devout Christian, it sounds like he loved every painful second of it.
Here’s what happened during the scene where he carries the cross:
“As I went down, the cross… it actually struck my head and buried my head in the sand. And I bit through my tongue. Now, in the tape, you’ll see streams of blood coming down from my lip.

There have been countless literary adaptations over the years that have done huge business at the box office and gone on to spawn franchises, but it would be fair to say that a lot of people weren’t expecting the Bible to be one of them.
Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ was a global phenomenon when it was released back in 2004, and went on to earn over $610 million worldwide, with seemingly every member of the movie’s target audience heading out to the theater to see it on the big screen. Even sixteen years later, it remains the seventh highest-grossing R-rated movie ever made behind only Joker, both Deadpool flicks, The Matrix Reloaded, It and Logan, all of which were studio blockbusters with massive built-in appeal. That speaks volumes about how certain projects specifically targeted to a certain demographic can bring people out in droves, regardless of genre or content.
