Exclusive: Here are your first look images of Oscar winner Russell Crowe (Gladiator) and Daniel MacPherson (Foundation) in martial-arts movie Beast In Me, which is in production in Australia and Bangkok, from a script co-written by Crowe.

They are joined in the cast by Luke Hemsworth (Westworld), Mojean Aria (The Correspondent) Kelly Gale (Plane), George Burgess (Land of Bad), Bren Foster (The Last Ship), Saphira Moran (It Will Find You) and Australian musician Amy Shark, who makes her feature film debut.

The Solution Entertainment Group is selling the project at the EFM in Berlin.

Pic follows Patton James (MacPherson), who abandons his mixed martial arts dream to support his wife, Luciana (Gale), and son. When his brother, Malon (Aria), suffers a serious injury and faces financial strain to underworld figures, Patton sets out to avenge him in a One Championship fight with the help of veteran trainer Sammy (Crowe). Firstly, the movies you won’t be seeing, but want to namecheck. Our rules were that we didn’t want to include films that had screened, but not made it to the UK yet (with the exception of British films). Hence – sorry Kevin – the next Horizon film isn’t on the list. There’s stuff we’re watching for release dates too: Above The Below, Mother’s Pride, All Of You, and such like. We acknowledge too that there’s a Michael Jackson biopic that you won’t find below. Plus superhero films that don’t really need our help, so we limited ourselves to one or two of those.

“How to Train Your Dragon” will be released in theaters on June 13, 2025. It is a remake of the animated film series that began with a 2010 animated film, produced by DreamWorks Animation. It is based on the book series by Cressida Cowell and, hopefully, it will continue the original movie’s legacy.

Everyone knows that Vikings and dragons have been enemies ever since they realized they live on the same planet, on the same isle. This is why the story of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III is so horrendous! He befriended a dragon. No Viking has even done that! It’s unheard of. It’s unacceptable. It’s impossible! Isn’t it?

Not impossible for Hiccup. Not only does he befriend the scary Night Fury dragon named Toothless, but he trains the creature! Who does that? Certainly not a Viking! It’s against all the rules of Viking society!

Exclusive: Magenta Light Studios, the recently announced production and distribution company of Crash producer Bob Yari, has acquired domestic rights from Arclight Films to Deep Water, a new thriller directed by Renny Harlin (The Strangers trilogy), which stars Aaron Eckhart (Sully) and Ben Kingsley (Gandhi).

The film, written by Pete Bridges (Aurora) and John Kim (Bait), will be released in theaters this year. It follows an eclectic group of international passengers whose plane, en route from L.A. to Shanghai, is forced to make an emergency landing in shark-infested waters. The terrified group is forced to work together and overcome their differences if they hope to escape their sinking plane and the frenzy of sharks drawn to the wreckage.

Lionsgate, Tucker Tooley Entertainment and G-base are moving a third film in the “Den of Thieves” franchise into active development.

“Den of Thieves 2: Pantera” opened in the No. 1 spot at the North American box office and has grossed more than $32 million at the domestic box office to date. The film launched on PVOD on Tuesday.

It is expected that Gerard Butler will return to star and produce through his G-base banner, alongside partner Alan Siegel, and Lionsgate is in talks with franchise writer-director Christian Gudegast to return to write and direct. It is also expected that O’Shea Jackson Jr. will co-star in the third installment.

Earlier this month, Jackson Jr. told Variety he was hoping for more “Den of Thieves” in the near future. “I’m not gonna sugarcoat it: I’m trying to Vin Diesel this thing. To quote Ryan Reynolds, I want to work with Gerard until he’s 90,” he said.

On January 1, 2024, the earliest versions of Mickey Mouse – seen in the animated shorts Plane Crazy, The Gallopin’ Gaucho, and most famously Steamboat Willie – became public domain… which, of course, means we’re now going to get multiple horror movies that feature characters inspired by Mickey Mouse. Sunday Am Writethru: It’s bound to be one of the lowest overall grossing weekends of 2025 with around $70.2M for all movies, and there’s not even a snowstorm to blame.

That’s how this part of the calendar typically swings at the box office. A year ago at this time, all titles counted $54.5M per Box Office Mojo, and that was the second worst weekend of 2024. For all the blah-blah from distribution heads that moviegoing can be a 52 weekend business, there are just some dead zones on the calendar. Today, it’s a run-up to the Super Bowl with Commanders vs. Eagles and Bills vs. Chiefs, so don’t expect any guys to go to the movies. Hopefully this weekend doesn’t come in lower than what we are seeing here.

The Uncharted movie finally escaped development hell and has the rare distinction of being remembered as the first project from PlayStation Productions. The film has undergone a handful of changes from scripts, directors, and even actors until Sony decided to bet all its chips on Tom Holland, hoping his star power from his ventures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Spider-Man would convince audiences to see the film.

While the final product wasn’t perfect, it was serviceable and got the job done. The filmmakers knew that hardcore fans would always be on the fence due to inaccuracies in the source material; however, the producers slipped in a few good easter eggs for eagle-eyed fans to spot.

The 2025 box office has a new number one movie with Den of Thieves 2's debut, as the January 10-12 weekend figures are finalized. The studio known for counterprogramming found a great release date on the schedule and maximized it. The results here are better than 3-day of Gerard Butler’s last movie with Lionsgate, 2023’s Plane.

It’s interesting to note that the LA market, which is still under siege from the wildfires, still turned out a solid 8% of the nation’s business which is part with its 52-week norm of 7.9%. Los Angeles generated 10.4% of the box office for Den of Thieves 2, which is more than the market did for the opening weekend of the original Den of Thieves with 9.3%. Note the...

It’s no secret that Lionsgate’s had a rough year at the box office. The mini-major is in bad shape after suffering pricey flops like Borderlands and The Crow. However, they’re scoring a much-needed win this weekend, with Den of Thieves 2: Pantera expected to finish in first place with a $15 million opening (about $3 million more than we predicted). That opening is in line with what the first film made back in 2018 and is a significant improvement over the last two Gerard Butler action flicks, Plane and Kandahar. The general thinking is that if it were not for the tragic Los Angeles wildfires, the film would have opened even higher, but even still, $15 million is a decent start for a movie that should have a long life on streaming.

According to Deadline, Mufasa: The Lion King is a distant second, with $11 million plus, while Sonic the Hedgehog 3...

No. The show is skipping this week. I caught up with 2018's cops-and-robbers action movie "Den of Thieves" on a plane years after it came out, and had a great time with it. The film is trashy, sweaty, pulpy fun, full of macho swaggering and characters who couldn't possibly care less about morality. Along with things like "Plane" and the "Has Fallen" franchise, "Den of Thieves" was one of the projects that helped crown Gerard Butler the king of trash cinema.

Now the king is back in the amazingly named "Den of Thieves 2: Pantera," a sequel that picks up basically right after the first movie ends and shifts the action from the dirty back streets of Los Angeles to Europe. That title has nothing to do with the heavy metal band — although it retains a little of that grungy, stringy-haired, wild-eyed energy that I think the band might approve of — and instead refers to a real-life...

Den of Thieves 2: Pantera has now debuted on Rotten Tomatoes, and Gerard Butler's sequel is faring better than the original. After the success of 2018's Den of Thieves, Butler returns as Big Nick for follow-up that leaves the streets of L.A. behind for various locales across Europe as he joins Donnie (O'Shea Jackson Jr.) to steal from a major diamond exchange. With the sequel, directed again by Christian Gudegast, now playing in theaters, Den of Thieves 2 reviews are now pouring in from critics, and the movie is off to a generally strong start.

As reviews come in, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera has now debuted on Rotten Tomatoes to a respectable score of 65% from 23 reviews, as of writing. Though this score is sure to fluctuate as more reviews are added, the sequel is currently beating the original by a fairly significant margin, with the original only carrying a 41% score from 135 reviews.

As a movie star, Gerard Butler owns January the way Will Smith once owned Memorial Day and the “Meg” films own August. That Butler’s B-movie thrillers now hold sway over the frozen, box-office-lite oblivion of the early weeks of the year may seem a Pyrrhic victory, but at least he’s the king of something. And Butler’s brusque, beady-eyed, scowling-hulk charisma has aged well. A quick-fire actor in a caveman’s body, he has the ability to lift a piece of pulp so it almost seems like a real movie.

For much of its two-hour-and-24-minute running time, “Den of Thieves 2: Pantera,” the sequel to Butler‘s cops-vs.-crooks heist thriller from 2018, does a satisfying impersonation of a high-end crime film. Jurassic World franchise star Daniella Pineda is among the many Hollywood celebs to lose their homes in the L.A. wildfires, the actress seeing the first house she ever bought go up in flames.

Pineda detailed the tragedy in a recent emotional Instagram post.

“This was the first house that I ever bought. My very first. The fire broke out so fast all I could grab was my dog and my laptop and that was it. I lost everything else. There will be no new episode of Outlander season 7 released on Starz on January 10, 2024—so when can romantasy fans tune in for the finale? This second-to-last installment in the time-travel series kicked off on November 22, 2024, with new episodes released on Starz consistently at 8:00 Pm Est every Friday. However, Outlander is taking a break this week, leaving the season 7 finale to be pushed off. This comes down to the events of award season, but hopefully, it will all be worth the wait.

Season 7 of Outlander has taken Jamie and Claire through significant moments of the Revolutionary War, introducing them to figures like George Washington, the Marquis de Lafayette, and more. The ending of Outlander season 7, episode 15, which aired on January 2, 2025, saw tragedy strike as Claire got caught in the crossfire at the Battle of Monmouth. The episode left her fate uncertain as Quaker Denzell Hunter prepared to perform an intricate surgery to save her life.

After a strong holiday season, the box office seems set to slow down this weekend, with the only new release being Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, starring Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson Jr. The original film opened with a better-than-expected $15 million on its way to a $44 million domestic total. Pantera isn’t expected to open quite as well, and I’m predicting it will open in line with Butler’s own Plane, which made just over $10 million almost exactly two years ago (although that was the more lucrative MLK Jr weekend – which doesn’t happen this year until next week).

I’d expect Den of Thieves 2: Pantera to make about $12 million, and come in just behind Mufasa: The Lion King, which should make about $15 million. Number three will likely go to Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which will make about $10 million.

The other big new release this weekend is Better Man,...

The 2025 box office has so far been dominated by the final movies of 2024, but Den of Thieves 2: Pantera and Better Man arrive with hopes of potentially bringing the new year some early hits. Although the Robbie Williams biopic, where he's a CGI chimpanzee, received a limited theatrical release at Christmas, it only played in six theaters. January 10th marks the wide release of Better Man as it squares off with Gerard Butler and O'Shea Jackson Jr.'s sequel to 2018's surprise action/crime hit Den of Thieves.

The option for audiences to watch Den of Thieves 2 in theaters, and Better Man for that matter, is just what the box office needs at this stage. Yesterday evening, a rumour hit social media claiming that Marvel Studios is making moves to recast Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa. The news has received a mixed response, though many fans are eager to see the character back on screen.

After Boseman passed away, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever confirmed that T'Challa had also died. Shuri inherited the mantle and the sequel ended by revealing the hero secretly had a son with Nakia, a young boy also named T'Challa.

Exclusive: Plane and The Bricklayer actor Oliver Trevena has signed with Untitled Entertainment for management.

Trevena has most recently acted in Hotel Tehran (in post) with Liam Neeson and Zachary Levi, TIFF movie The Cut with Orlando Bloom, Mermaid with Mel Gibson, and Ice Fall, with Joel Kinnaman, for which he also served as executive producer.

Trevena was recently honored by the Rome Film festival with a Breakout Actor award from his Plane co-star Gerard Butler at the premiere of Trevena’s action-thriller The Paradox Effect in which he stars opposite Harvey Keitel and Olga Kurylenko. He also stars with the latter in Misdirection, which he also produced.

Jason Wong, the British actor best known for “Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves” and his frequent collaborations with Guy Ritchie, has joined the cast of Lionsgate’s action-thriller “Mutiny” alongside Jason Statham and Annabelle Wallis.

Being directed by “Plane” helmer Jean-François Richet, the pic is being produced by Statham through his newly-launched Punch Palace Productions banner alongside Marc Butan via his MadRiver Pictures.

As per the description, in “Mutiny,” after his billionaire industrialist boss is murdered in front of him, Cole Reed (Statham) is set up to take the fall for the crime — leaving him on the run as he works to uncover an international conspiracy. Wong will play Taran, Cole’s supportive loyal confidant whilst the action and drama unfolds.

Principal photography will take place this autumn in the U.K.. The film marks the latest collaboration between Richet, Butan, and Davis following “Plane” in 2023. Evan Powell will oversee for MadRiver.
