Last year, it was announced that Under the Shadow‘s Babak Anvari had signed on to direct a new entry in the Cloverfield franchise. While we wait to hear more about that project, Anvari is busy working on another film: he’s now in production on a psychological thriller called Hallow Road, starring Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) and Matthew Rhys (Perry Mason).

Scripted by William Gillies, Hallow Road was commissioned and developed by London Film & TV. The story follows two parents who enter a race against time when they receive a distressing late-night phone call from their daughter after she caused a tragic car accident.

The film is being produced by Lucan Toh of Two & Two Pictures with Ian Henry of London Film & TV and Richard Bolger of Hail Mary Pictures. Financing is being provided by XYZ Films and Screen Ireland. Filming is taking place in Ireland and Prague.

The Hollywood Reporter can reveal that the British actress — who became a fan favorite for playing Margaery Tyrell across 26 episodes of Game of Thrones — is now in Cape Town, where shooting is due to start on March 6. Spanish media giant Atresmedia is joining forces with Portocabo, the production outfit behind Movistar Plus hit series “Hierro,” for a remake of Showtime drama “Your Honor,” starring Bryan Cranston.

The Spanish redo is currently at the script stage and initiating casting.

With an undisclosed number of episodes, the project production is scheduled to kick off this year.

The TV series release date is still unknown. But it would be logical for it to launch on platform Atresplayer Premium before airing on Atresmedia’s free-to-air channel Antena 3 primetime, a windowing strategy usually followed by the group with its new fiction releases since Atresplayer Premium bowed in 2019.

“Your Honor” is based on the Israeli TV drama “Kvodo,” created by Ron Ninio and Shlomo Mashiach, and aired first on Israel’s paybox Yes TV.

With Under the Shadow (2016) and Wounds (2019) under his belt, British-Iranian filmmaker Babak Anvari made a significant move into the larger budget stratosphere when his third feature film went into production with some Netflix coin. Starring George MacKay, Kelly Macdonald and Hugh Bonneville, I Came By is a neo-noir possible clash of the classes set in an affluent portion of London. Reteaming with Under The Shadow cinematographer Kit Fraser, this was co-written with Namsi Khan. Film4 and New Regency developed the project.

Exclusive: Under The Shadow and Wounds duo Babak Anvari and Lucan Toh of Two & Two Pictures have renewed their first look TV deal with AMC Studios.

The filmmakers first struck a deal with The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad network in 2017.

Two & Two, which is in post-production on Anvari’s third feature, the Netflix Original film I Came By, starring George Mackay, Kelly MacDonald and Hugh Bonneville, has also made two staff moves.

Bryan Sonderman has been promoted to Executive Vice President of Development. The company has also hired Sid Elbadawi as Creative Executive, based in London.

LA-based Sonderman joined the company in 2018, having met Anvari and Toh whilst working at Annapurna Pictures on Anvari’s second feature, Wounds. In his new role, Sonderman’s remit will be to source and develop material for the company’s film and television slate, reporting directly to Anvari and Toh.

The Wallflowers have announced their new album Exit Wounds, Jakob Dylan and company’s first LP in nine years. The band also debuted the first single “Roots and Wings” Thursday during a visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Exit Wounds, due out July 9th, marks the Wallflowers’ first album since 2012’s Glad All Over. Butch Walker produced the LP, which also features Shelby Lynne on four tracks.

Armie Hammer has dropped out of Lionsgate’s “Shotgun Wedding,” in which he was set to star with Jennifer Lopez, amid a social media firestorm about what the actor calls “bulls— claims” about him.

“Given the imminent start date of ‘Shotgun Wedding,’ Armie has requested to step away from the film and we support him in his decision,” a production spokesperson said. The role will be recast.

Zak Olkewicz wrote the script, based on the Japanese novel “Maria Beetle” by best-selling author Kotaro Isaka. The book centers on a group of hitmen and assassins with conflicting motives on a train in Tokyo.

Pitt boarded the project in early July. He had been weighing his options since winning his first acting Oscar for Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” for playing stuntman Cliff Booth. Pitt is also attached to co-star with Emma Stone in Damien Chazelle’s movie “Babylon,” which moved back the start of production to 2021, creating an opening in his schedule for “Bullet Train.

Zazie Beetz has joined the cast of David Leitch’s “Bullet Train” at Sony, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

Brad Pitt, Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry and Andrew Koji also star in the film that was written by Zak Olkewicz. It is based on the Japanese novel “Maria Beetle” by Kotaro Isaka.

Leitch and Kelly McCormick (“Atomic Blonde”) will produce the film through their company 87North, alongside Antoine Fuqua and Kat Samick. Brittany Morrissey is overseeing the project for Sony Pictures. Ryosuke Saegusa and Yuma Terada of Ctb Inc., who represent Isaka and the IP, are the executive producers on the project.

Although plot details are being kept under wraps, the project is described as a contained thriller in the vein of “Speed” and “Non-Stop” and centers on a group of assassins.

Beetz’s most recent credits include “Joker,” “Wounds,” “Seberg” and “Nine Days.

Every once in a while, someone likes to declare that the horror genre is dead, and so far, every one of those predictions has been wrong.

Horror movies have been around almost as long as filmmaking itself, and while the genre has always been cyclical in nature –dipping, sometimes drastically, in both quality and quantity from time to time — all it usually takes is a well-timed box office hit, a fresh new angle or a hot young filmmaker to reanimate it again.

Additionally, aspects of melodrama generated from the introduction of the female sect of monks offers an engaging perspective on the struggle with desire.
