Is there any actor in the business right now who’s having more fun than Richard E. Grant? Of the four remaining contestants on season 1 of “The Masked Dancer,” the Sloth is one of the best and he could well win the Diamond Mask. He had four judges rocking in their seats when he danced to “Twist Remix” by Neeraj Shridhar on February 3. That routine earned Sloth a slot in the Top 4 competing again on February 10.
We’ve rewatched all of Sloth’s slides across the dance floor including those from earlier episodes: “What I Like About You” by The Romantics on January 6;”Up Where We Belong” by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes on January 13; and “Ain’t That a Kick in the Head” by Dean Martin on January 27. And we’ve reviewed his four clues videos again.
We agree with the judges that Sloth is a professional dancer. However, we think they failed to nail his name in their guesses. Keep reading for all “The Masked Dancer...

Given the sheer strength in depth of the Mouse House’s back catalogue that includes Star Wars, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Pixar, The Simpsons and a wide selection of animated titles, not to mention the production line of live-action remakes based on the studio’s extensive roster of classics, there’s more than enough on Disney Plus to keep subscribers occupied for years.
In terms of original content, though, the platform is lagging far behind the likes of Netflix, Amazon and even HBO Max. Then again, that clearly doesn’t matter in the slightest when the customer count blew past 73 million in just twelve months, which is way ahead of even the most optimistic projections being made in the boardroom.

With dance, silent cinema and collage, Jacqui and David Morris tell the classic story as a scathing attack on capitalism
From Jacqui and David Morris, the brother-sister duo who brought us 2018’s authoritative Nureyev documentary, comes this dance-based adaptation of a classic. Any uncultured types who fall asleep during The Nutcracker need not be put off: the Morrises have combined contemporary choreography with Dickens’ timeless tale to create an enthralling and moving experience.
In a cosy Victorian family home, the children put on a paper theatre performance of Scrooge’s tale. As grandmother (Siân Phillips) begins to narrate, their theatre comes to life, with each character performed by a dancer and voiced by an actor. Simon Russell Beale’s Scrooge is embodied as a young man by Jakub Franasowicz, and as an old man by Michael Nunn, while Daniel Kaluuya provides a voice for Mikey Boateng’s Dalston disco-ready Ghost of Christmas Present.

From Shondaland, “Dance Dreams: Hot Chocolate Nutcracker” spotlights the career of award-winning entertainer Debbie Allen and follows her group of ingénues as they prepare for Allen’s annual ballet showcase, which is produced via her Los Angeles-based Debbie Allen Dance Academy (Dada). Directed by Oliver Bolkenberg, the documentary, which is now streaming on Netflix, follows Allen, her staff, students, and extended family as they prepare for what has become a beloved local tradition that stars more than 200 children and a few professional actors, including Allen herself.
The Houston-born dance icon and her husband Norm Nixon have operated the non-profit Dada for 20 years. It offers a comprehensive dance curriculum to mostly youth of color, regardless of financial status. While in attendance, the students learn from a slew of teachers who are tops in their respective fields, like former Houston Ballet principal dancer Lauren Anderson and tap superstar Savion Glover.

Exclusive: Ellie Bamber (Nocturnal Animals), Cailee Spaeny (The Craft: Legacy) and Erin Kellyman (Solo) are in negotiations for the three female leads in Willow, Disney+ and Lucasfilm’s upcoming TV series follow-up to the 1988 fantasy movie, with the film’s star Warwick Davis reprising his title role, I have learned. The new incarnation of Willow comes from Jonathan Kasdan, who wrote the pilot and serves as co-showrunner alongside Wendy Mericle; Jon M. Chu, who will direct the pilot episode; the original film’s director Ron Howard and writer Bob Dolman; as well as Lucasfilm, which produced the movie. A rep for Disney+ declined comment.
The Willow movie, written by Dolman from a story by George Lucas, starred Davis as a reluctant farmer who leads a ragtag crew on a quest to protect a special baby from a tyrannical queen who vows to destroy her.

Disney Plus is adding 10 new titles this coming Friday to end November with a bang. Before the Mouse House’s streaming service ushers in the holiday season in December, there are a few more exciting movies and TV shows on the way, including a new D+ original film, a batch of complete seasons to binge and, of course, the latest episode of The Mandalorian season 2.
To begin with, Friday sees the debut of Black Beauty, a modern day retelling of the classic novel by Anna Sewell. Kate Winslet voices the famous horse, with Mackenzie Foy (The Nutcracker and the Four Realms) as Jo, a spirited teenager who becomes Beauty’s best friend once she’s taken from her home and family in the American West.

Given the sheer strength of the company’s portfolio, Disney Plus is hardly going to shed many subscribers when the likes of Star Wars, Pixar, the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the extensive back catalogue of animated classics and their live-action remakes are all available at the push of a button, even if the lineup of exciting original content is relatively bare when compared to other streaming services.
That being said, the decision to launch Mulan exclusively on Disney Plus for a one-off fee is reported to have netted the Mouse House a huge amount of revenue, which will only infuriate those involved with the theatrical industry even more. Outside of The Mandalorian, though, there isn’t much on the platform right now that has the potential to capture the zeitgeist, but there are some major titles set to debut in December.

Updated with Bob Iger comments on Star Wars franchise and Disney+ content. The Disney+ streaming service, which launched in November, has 28.6 million subscribers as of February, the company said Tuesday as it reported fiscal first-quarter earnings after the bell. The sub number is higher than the 20 million-25 million anticipated. Disney+ had 26.5 million subscribers at the end of the quarter on December 31.
In announcing financial results, the media giant reported that revenue surged 36% to $20.9 billion. Earnings per share, excluding certain items that impact comparability, dipped 17% to $1.53. Comparisons were complicated by the $71.3 billion acquisition of most of 21st Century Fox last March.
At a conference call to chew over the numbers, Iger discussed the subtleties of Star Wars fandom around the world and why The Mandalorian will work in some markets while the Skywalker legacy might not, as well the new streamer’s broader programming strategy.

Can anyone even remember the last time Disney gave us an original live action film? Ok, fine, you could count Christopher Robin or The Nutcracker and the Four Realms if you really want to, but other than those, there hasn’t been a whole lot.
That can be blamed on the studio’s strong desire to take all our childhood favorites and give them the live action treatment in hopes of indulging in some ol’ nostalgia-based cash grabbing. To be fair, none of them have been particularly bad, but most of them do feel a bit unnecessary and uninspired.
The upcoming Mulan is hoping to break that trend though by doing things a bit different, straying quite a ways away from the original and one way it’ll do that is by not including Mushu. The tiny wise-cracking dragon brought to life by Eddie Murphy’s voice in the animated...
