Thelma is subjected to strobe lights in the hospital in order to provoke a seizure. This would not be a useful diagnostic procedure since only 3% of epileptics are photosensitive.
The first time Thelma goes on Facebook on her computer, everything is in English. In all subsequent social media on portable devices/phones, the text is in her native language.
