Jamie Foxx made his long-awaited return to the standup comedy stage in Atlanta over the weekend, where he opened up about his 2023 medical emergency in a humorous, but emotional one-man show.
“CBS Mornings” host Gayle King was backstage at the special, which was filmed for Netflix, and captured Foxx’s immediate reflections in an impromptu “interview” posted on social media. In the clip, the Oscar and Grammy winner is surrounded by a cheerful entourage who applaud his achievement. “You landed on the moon, man. Be so proud,” Foxx told the group as he opened a bottle of champagne to celebrate.
“I wanna know how you feel after three nights?” King then asked. “It was an excruciating time, opening those wounds every single day,” Foxx replied.

The hot talk of the town, Ana de Armas is all set to make her debut in the John Wick universe with her upcoming Ballerina – a piece that sounds like it could soon have her career skyrocketing even further. Over the years since she debuted in Hollywood, the Cuban-Spanish stunner has scored enough groundbreaking roles to establish herself as a prominent figure in the entertainment industry.

While this includes bagging some really top-notch roles, with her upcoming role in Ballerina another significant addition to the list, de Armas has also commendably managed to become an Academy Award contender during the mere first decade of her career in Hollywood. This, of course, means she has a substantial net worth as well, considering how quickly she has launched herself to become a household name in Hollywood.

Twitch really, really wants more streamers to make content together. And, to encourage that, it’s finally adding the feature that killed Squad Stream.
Let us explain: Twitch has been trying to get multi-creator streams to work since March 2019. That’s when it introduced Squad Stream, a tool that allowed up to four streamers to appear together in a single unified broadcast. Squad Stream seemed like a cool collab function at first, but it had serious issues, the biggest of which was that even though streamers were appearing together on one stream, their chats would be split. So, they’d each be focusing on chatting with their own individual audience while trying to group stream.
Twitch retired Squad Stream in late 2023, saying it ultimately had an adoption rate of fewer than 1% of Partner streams and attributing that very low uptake to Squad Stream missing a shared chat and other creator-desired features.

Based on a novel by Irish author A.M. Shine, writer-director Ishana Night Shyamalan’s The Watched — known as The Watchers in some territories — feels like a companion piece to her father M Night Shyamalan's Knock At The Cabin. Again, we’re deep in literal and metaphorical woods and a random set of strangers gather for momentous, ominous purpose. In Knock, things got less interesting the more was revealed. This goes the other way — to the extent that the premise sold in the trailer is rather underdone (little is made of the situation where abductees are on display all the time). But when the claustrophobia lets up, the story takes off in fresh, unsettling directions. It feels like a pilot for a series, setting out more mythology than it can explore.

It wasn’t the stylish action sequences in The Matrix that attracted Keanu Reeves. He revealed in 1999 that he was struck by the Wachowski siblings’ storytelling in the film. Reeves added that Hollywood films began lacking intellectually challenging stories back then, which many of them compensated with big-name actors and heavy VFX sequences. Reeves’ 25-year-old statement makes more sense today as people are tired of seeing the same stories from franchises like Marvel and DC.

In a world where superheroes, sequels, horror (thankfully) and anything IP related are king, it seems as though the risqué original thriller has gone by the wayside. Over the past ten years or so you’d be hard pressed to find anything other than The Invisible Man, You Should Have Left, Gerald’s Game, Gone Girl, or Knock, Knock that really fit the mold (albeit with some finagling) and each of those is either tied to popular literature or skews closer to the horror genre.
But the original thriller thrived in the 1990s. Also thriving during this beautiful time in Hollywood were action movies featuring two adversaries face to face on the poster and/or movie cover. Movies like Face/Off, Point Break, Demolition Man, Universal Soldier, and Broken Arrow. 1992’s Unlawful Entry combines both of these elements with two heaping sides of the stalker and slasher horror subgenres. They might as well pour champagne and pass out victory cigars at 30 Rock, because Peacock just had its best streaming week ever for movies. The NBCUniversal streamer’s success stemmed largely from success at the box office, giving more weight to the theaters-to-streaming trend that’s seeing cinematic exposure as key to driving viewership online.
Peacock topped Whip Media’s movie ranker for Friday through Sunday, thanks to the streaming debut of “Knock at the Cabin.” But the service also accounted for six of the top 10 most-streamed movies in the U.S. over the past weekend, according to Whip Media’s rankings, which it compiles using viewership data from TV Time, its TV and movie tracking app with more than 25 million global registered users.

For better or worse, the past 25 years of horror movies have been massively affected by the work of M. Night Shyamalan. Films like The Sixth Sense and Signs led many to hail the director as a modern-day Alfred Hitchcock. But Shyamalan’s 2023 film, Knock at the Cabin, features something rarely seen in a mainstream horror film: a married gay couple.

(from left) Leonard (Dave Bautista), Adriane (Abby Quinn) and Sabrina (Nikki Amuka-Bird) in Knock at the Cabin, directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Like Dwayne Johnson and John Cena before him, former professional wrestler Dave Bautista started his Hollywood career with a lot of roles in action films, playing characters that relied more on size and strength than on emotional nuance. As his film career has progressed, though, Bautista has been working toward expanding his repertoire to include more “serious” roles. His new film, M. Night Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin, represents a big step forward for him, and he talked to us about why this role means so much to him. Super Bowl weekend has never been great for the box office, with only a few breakout hits over the years. This year, it was especially bad, and as usual, weekend estimates are exactly that: estimates, since it’s too early to determine how this year’s big game night affect Sunday box office.
Channing Tatum and Salma Hayek Pinault starred in “Magic Mike’s Last Dance,” the third and presumably final chapter of the male stripper franchise with returning director, Steven Soderbergh. Warner Bros. only gave the movie a moderate release into only 1,500 theaters, while reviews were not great, sitting at 46 on Rotten Tomatoes. Warners didn’t report the movie’s Thursday previews or Friday take, which was later reported to be 4.1 million. Based on WB’s Sunday estimates, “Magic Mike” only made 8.2 million this weekend, averaging 5,467 per location, which was still enough to be the #1 movie over Super Bowl weekend.

Paramount’s “80 for Brady” did decently on a rather quiet weekend for the box office, but beneath its 12.5 million opening weekend is one of several experiments that could change how much moviegoers pay for tickets based on what day they buy a ticket, what movie they’re seeing and even where they sit in the theater.
For the entirety of its theatrical run, tickets for all screenings of “80 for Brady” at national chains AMC, Cinemark and Regal will be sold at matinee prices. That exact price varies depending on location, but according to exhibition sources the average ticket price for “80 for Brady” was 9.79, about 21 less than the 12.30 average ticket price for the weekend’s No. 1 film, Universal’s “Knock at the Cabin.”
Meanwhile, AMC announced a pilot program called Sightline Monday, which will be introduced by the chain at select locations and introduce different prices for tickets depending on seating.

This weekend, M. Night Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin arrived in theaters and asked audiences everywhere – would you sacrifice someone you loved for the greater good or would you fight for your family? The trio of performers at the center of this conflict are Ben Aldridge, Jonathan Groff and newcomer Kristen Cui who play a family that must make an impossible decision about the fate of humanity, as poised by Dave Bautista, Rupert Grint, Nikki Amuka-Bird and Abby Quinn.
During a recent press day for Knock at the Cabin, Daily Dead had the opportunity to chat with both Groff and Aldridge about their involvement with Shyamalan’s latest feature, and the duo discussed the secrecy surrounding the project when they were first approached to audition, their experiences collaborating with Night as well as the rest of the cast, how Knock’s youngest cast member – Kristen Cui – repeatedly stole the show,...

This article contains mild Knock at the Cabin spoilers.
“Don’t you look away.”
That’s the one command a soon-to-be-executed man makes before he sacrifices himself in an attempt to prevent the apocalypse in Knock at the Cabin, the latest from director M. Night Shyamalan. It’s grim stuff, but nasty, ludicrous premises such as these have become the norm for Shyamalan, especially over the past decade. Ever since the once vaunted director’s Hollywood career stalled with famous flops The Last Airbender and After Earth, Shyamalan has found his footing again with a series of nasties, including the found-footage cheapie The Visit and the wonderfully ridiculous Old.
Despite what Newsweek proclaimed in a 2002 cover story (timed with the release of Signs), Shyamalan never became the next Steven Spielberg, especially when the genuine article is still making excellent movies well into his 70s. Instead Shyamalan has become something else—and something far more interesting.

Welcome to the weird world of theatrical movies, the weekly scramble to find a formula that fills seats. “Knock at the Cabin” returned Universal to #1 for the first time since October, despite several big hits including “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” and “M3GAN.”
“80 for Brady” closely followed, with most theaters (with Paramount’s encouragement) capping prices all day to matinee cost. It grossed 12.5 million, significantly above expectations, to take second place. After seven weeks at the top, “Avatar: The Way of Water” dropped to #3.
That meant three films over 10 million and its the first time that’s happened on this weekend since 2017. (This February weekend usually faces Super Bowl competition, which we’ll see next week.) In 2017, the #1 film was another M. Night Shylamalan title, “Split.” It also opened to 14 million; with today’s higher ticket prices, it would be around 17 million.

Before the weekend, it looked like M. Night Shyamalan’s thriller “Knock at the Cabin” would win the weekend quite definitively. But as numbers started coming in for it and Paramount’s new comedy “80 for Brady,” things were looking like it may be a tighter race for first place.
Universal released the former, starring Dave Bautista, Ben Aldridge, and Jonathan Groff, into 3,643 theaters with Thursday previews that amounted to 1.4 million and a Friday opening of 5.4 million (including those previews). By comparison, “80 for Brady,” which united Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Sally Field, and Rita Moreno for the true story of octogenarian besties with dreams of attending the Super Bowl, would be released into 3,912 theaters with 1.27 million grossed in earlier previews. That ended up with slightly less for 4.7 million on Friday, benefitting from theater chains offering reduced ticket prices for all showings.

Sunday Am: Universal’s M. Night Shyamalan movie Knock at the Cabin held up over Paramount’s 80 for Brady, 14.2M to 12.5M, even though the latter had discount matinee ticketing in most theaters coast-to-coast.
While the experimental ticket price drop didn’t exactly mushroom more bucks than Knock at the Cabin, 80 for Brady pulled in more people than Knock at the Cabin, 1.3 million to 1.1 million according to box office stat corp EntTelligence, which actually counts seats for the industry. The average ticket price for 80 for Brady was 9.79 to Knock on the Cabin‘s 12.30. So, in regards to Paramount and exhibition’s great team-up, something definitely worked here that bears repeating with subsequent films for older demos.

After eight weeks of release, “Avatar: The Way of Water” will likely abdicate the top slot at the box office this weekend, as M. Night Shyamalan’s thriller “Knock at the Cabin” and Paramount’s comedy “80 for Brady” look to open above the James Cameron film on domestic charts.
Universal’s “Knock at the Cabin” brought in 5.4 million on Friday from 3,643 venues, a figure that includes roughly 1.45 million in Thursday previews. The apocalyptic thriller is currently on track to open on top of the box office with roughly 14.5 million, though those estimates fall shy of the 15 million to 20 million range that had been predicted heading into the weekend.
Starring Dave Bautista, Jonathan Groff and Ben Aldridge, “Knock at the Cabin” follows a family who has their vacation interrupted by four strangers with visions of an impending apocalypse. The only way to prevent the end of the world, they claim,...

Numbers have begun rolling in for this first weekend of February and boy was I off with my predictions from Thursday! M. Night Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin should still come in first place, but it is opening softer than I anticipated with an estimated 15 million based off a 5.6 million Friday. I actually saw the writing on the wall for this one when I saw it Thursday night (after I had written my predictions) in a Dolby theater that was fairly empty. The opening puts it right in line with Night’s last film Old that opened to 16.8 million back in July 2021. That opening is a big reason I thought this movie would come in higher. Allow me to take you all the way back to summer 2021 when movie theaters were still struggling to find their footing and many people were still wary of going back to theaters. Since then,...

A fan of Knock at the Cabin has spotted an Easter egg which could tie back to one of director M Night Shyamalan’s previous releases.
The film, released in cinemas this week, focuses on a family staying at a remote holiday cabin, who are approached by four members of what seems to be a doomsday cult.
In her four-star review for The Independent, Clarisse Loughrey described the film as “a (largely) single-location, narratively straightforward horror that unspools the tricky moral conundrum at its centre with inventive, Hitchcockian flair”.
“Hopefully, Knock at the Cabin will serve as a reminder that Shyamalan should be celebrated as much for his craftsmanship as he is for his shock tactics,” she added.
The film stars Ben Aldridge, Jonathan Groff as the parents of young Wen (Kristen Cui). The four interlopers are played by Dave Bautista, Rupert Grint, Abby Quinn and Nikki Amuka-Bird.

For Knock at the Cabin, M. Night Shyamalan presents audiences with an impossible decision through his adaptation of Paul Tremblay’s novel The Cabin at the End of the World where a loving family must choose to sacrifice one of its members or allow the world to go into full-blown apocalypse mode. Shyamalan changes aspects of Tremblay’s story to create a narrative that loses a bit of its impact in the last 15 minutes (even if I understand why he’d make these changes). Everything before that point is absolutely aces though, thanks to some fantastic camera work and an array of brilliant performances from the entire cast, but especially Dave Bautista, who is working at an entirely new level here.
And as a long-time fan of Bautista’s, both in and outside of the ring, that alone made Knock at the Cabin worth seeing even if you’re not...

This article contains spoilers for the film "Knock at the Cabin."
M. Night Shyamalan's new film "Knock at the Cabin," based on the novel "The Cabin at the End of the World" by Paul G. Tremblay, has a supernatural premise that is never fully delved into. And while obfuscating the finer mechanics of the film's fantasy setup certainly adds to its general air of mystery, what Shyamalan and his co-screenwriters Steve Desmond and Michael Sherman have chosen to leave in reveals some dark and deeply morally irresponsible things. By the end of "Knock," one might see a downright bigoted ethos being advocated. The ending is especially galling, given how much on-screen suffering the two lead characters went through.
Ben Aldridge and Jonathan Groff play Andrew and Eric, a happily married couple who are vacationing with their young daughter Wen (Kristen Cui) at a remote lakeside cabin in Pennsylvania. Andrew and Eric are happy,...

Though adapting Paul G. Tremblay’s The Cabin at the End of the World, M. Night Shyamalan’s newest film takes a different approach. Knock at the Cabin is an exercise in specified tension and single-setting thrills. It zips and zooms, looking as gorgeous as anything in the director’s filmography, even featuring one of the best performances he’s pulled out of an actor with Dave Bautista doing some tremendous work. Yet the emotional connection fades as terror grows, a fun time at the movies not being able to overcome a severe lack of attachment to characters who must die in order for everyone else to survive.
Knock at the Cabin begins with Leonard (Bautista) approaching Wen to catch grasshoppers with her. He talks in coded language, and once she’s sufficiently worried, the young girl runs back inside to her two dads, Eric and Andrew, played by a...

February is looking to be at least slightly better than January, in terms of new movies, if only because we’re getting a number of sequels to previous hits. This weekend we get two non-sequels, one from a popular genre filmmaker, the other an odd true-story comedy based around the biggest sports event of the year. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
The biggest new release of the weekend is M. Night Shyamalan’s thriller “Knock at the Cabin,” based on Paul Tremblay’s book “The Cabin at the End of the World,” and starring Dave Bautista, Rupert Grint, Jonathan Groff and Ben Aldridge, who recently co-starred in “Spoiler Alert.” The premise revolves around a small family of three vacationing in a cabin when a group of armed strangers show up with a proposition that could prevent Armageddon.

You have to keep your eye out for it because it is an action sequence with a lot of quick cuts, but there’s one rather peculiar object in the background of the convenience store shoot-out in “Grosse Pointe Blank” (which hit theaters 25 years ago). The items shot up and blown apart by contract killer Martin Blank (John Cusack) and the man who’s trying to kill him (Benny Urquidez) are your typical 7-11 fare: potato chips, sodas, sports drinks, breakfast cereals.

Pairing wine with movies! See the trailers and hear the fascinating commentary for these movies, and many more, at Trailers From Hell. This week, pairings for a few movies that may have escaped your notice.
The creative juices run dry for everyone now and then. Trailers From Hell is no exception. It’s not easy for us to come up with new and fresh ideas for this space each week. Fortunately, we have a few tricks to help us deal with theme burnout, and this is one of them. The old “more movies you never heard of” chestnut has saved us before, and will no doubt get our creativity back on track for the coming weeks. If it doesn’t, we can always fall back on “even more movies you never heard of” and “still yet more,” if the dry spell gets as bad as California’s drought. By the way,...

We might be stuck indoors this Halloween weekend, but thankfully, the various major streaming services are on hand to keep us occupied with a monumental mountain of new content heading our way over the next few days. As it’s both the end of the month and the beginning of November, the likes of Netflix, Disney Plus, HBO Max, Hulu and Prime Video are adding a mix of seasonal movies and TV shows today and tomorrow, and a whole load of freshly licensed titles on Sunday.
First of all, Netflix is dropping five new originals this Friday, October 30th, including a couple of horrors, like The Day of the Lord and His House. Disney Plus, meanwhile, debuts The Mandalorian‘s season 2 premiere today, along with a new episode of The Right Stuff and Nicolas Cage movie The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Like everyone else, Jeff Schaffer was skeptical about a TV show based on the life of rapper Lil Dicky, a.k.a. Dave Burd. Schaffer has been a go-to collaborator, writer, and director for Larry David on the later years of Curb Your Enthusiasm and was busy working on the last two seasons when he reluctantly took a meeting with Burd and record executive Scooter Braun.
“Two years ago, the internet was like 50 percent porn, 30 percent clickbait, and 20 percent Lil Dicky videos,” the Dave co-creator tells Den of Geek. “I knew who he was, but I didn’t know him. And when we started to talk, he really surprised me because his stories were all the kind of stories I like to tell.”
According to Schaffer, those stories were “Curb-like.” Burd’s neurotic tendencies, his background and appearance, and willingness to open the curtain to expose his insecurities made him...

Knock poker is a combination of poker and rummy and can be played by two or six players. But the ideal would be if three or five players participate in it. The hands are ranked as similar to poker. As the game starts, each player receives five cards, just like in the regular game of poker. The residual cards are placed on the table as stock. The opening player draws a card from the stock, and he can retain it or discard it. The other player can draw a card from the stock or from the discarded pile of cards.
Knock
A player has the option of a knock before discarding it. That is, he can call for a showdown. A showdown means other players can get only one more chance for a draw. All hands are revealed, and as a regular practice, the high hand wins the pot. If...

“Wash your face, brush your teeth, and say your Prayers.” Marilyn Monroe’s first plunge into a dramatic starring role casts her as a dangerously unstable babysitter in a hotel-set suspense thriller co-starring Richard Widmark and Anne Bancroft. Ms. Monroe may not be Ethel Barrymore (thankfully) but the role suits her well — to play a woman unhinged by low self-esteem and melancholy romantic reveries, she may have tapped personal experience.

Exclusive: Universal Pictures Home Entertainment (Uphe) Content Group has hired former Wild Bunch Germany acquisitions exec David Kehrl as Senior Manager, Acquisitions and Production, International, I have learned. Out of its London office, Uphe is also newly working with UK producer Louis Tisné (Hungry Hearts).
Kehrl is based in the London office of the group and reports to the division’s Svp of Acquisitions and Production Jasper van Hecke. Kehrl, who joined the studio this month, previously spent five years at Wild Bunch Germany, most recently as Head Of Acquisition & Co-Production. Recent releases for the German division of the French indie giant include Wind River and Omar Sy comedy Knock.
This was a sought after job among rising European sales and distribution execs as it brings consistent interface with the international industry within a studio context. Kehrl comes in to partly fill the space left by well-liked Universal staffer Amit Dey who relocated to L.
