As far as classic trilogies go, Back to the Future has to rank at the top of the pantheon. Yet, it’s always felt as if their third film, Back to the Future: Part III, which features Michael J. Fox’s Marty McFly going back in time to rescue Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) from the old west, always went a little underappreciated by fans. Why?
Truth be told, as good as the two sequels are, neither quite manages to outshine the 1985 original, which ranks as perhaps the most impeccably crafted blockbuster of all time. For his follow-ups, Robert Zemeckis was ahead of his time in that he shot both movies back to back as one giant film, allowing him to release them six months apart, at Christmas of 1989 and the Summer of 1990. In fact, Back to the Future: Part II ended with a trailer for the third film.

Jacinda Barrett wasn't the only cast wife to make a cameo on "Suits." In case you missed it, Troian Bellisario, "Pretty Little Liars" star and Patrick J. Adams's wife Irl, played a love interest of her husband's character, Mike Ross, on the series. Portraying lawyer Claire Bowden, Bellisario appeared in several episodes during seasons four and five as Mike's former flame.
We're first introduced to Claire as a legal-clinic intern in a season four flashback scene, where she's seen meeting Mike, a bike messenger. As the two become romantically involved, Mike lies about being a law student to impress Claire, which she later discovers and subsequently breaks things off between them. In the present, Claire returns as the opposing lawyer in Mike's first case as junior partner and quickly finds out he's practicing law illegally. Though Claire nearly reports Mike as a fraud, Rachel Zane (Meghan Markle) ultimately convinces her to keep his secret.

Actors and the roles they play don’t always have much in common, but one Pretty Little Liars star shares a trait with her character. Troian Bellisario, who played the academically minded Spencer Hastings in the teen drama, was a lot like her character when she was at school.

Pretty Little Liars follows a group of girls who, after the mysterious disappearance of their friend Alison, start receiving threatening messages from someone known as “A.” This person seemingly knows all their secrets, and the girls work to figure out A’s identity.
The show was hugely popular, with millions of viewers worldwide tuning in to see if the characters could unmask “A.” Pretty Little Liars ended in 2017, but it has spawned a few spinoffs.

San Sebastian-based production-distribution outfit Atera Films has taken Spanish distribution rights to Inés María Barrionuevo’s “Camila Comes out Tonight” –sold by Latido Films – and Nathalie Álvarez Mesén’s “Clara Sola,” whose international sales are handled by Luxbox.
With the two new titles, Atera underscores its aim of discovering and making available to Spanish audiences young Ibero-American directors including those who explore Lgtbi+ issues. The buys build on two prior key acquisitions – Jayro Bustamante’s “Tremors” and “La Llorona.” A further Atera acquisition is Andrés Wood’s “Spider.”
“These new acquisitions confirm our main editorial backbone, which is talent, especially if young and feminine, and exploring women’s issues, as is the case here,” Atera’s Miren Aperribay told Variety.
“We’re always eager to bring to Spain films with a strong auteurist voice which premiered at the world’s foremost festivals,” she added.

Held online over Oct. 20-22, 2021’s Spanish Screenings-Málaga de Cine mark Spain’s biggest national cinema showcase anywhere in the world, its equivalent of UniFrance’s Paris Rendez-vous. 113 recent Spanish titles were made available to 218 carefully-targeted international buyers, distributors and fest heads with a record of screening movies from Spain. Such a spectacular smorgasbord also says much about Spanish production trends and the state of the international market at large. Six takes on this year’s screenings:
A Sign of the Times
Last year, Malaga unveiled 20 market premieres. This year, the number were way down, with screenings dominated by titles brought onto the market as finished films at Cannes, Toronto and San Sebastian. That’s a sign of the times. With a huge international distributor release bottleneck, sales agents used the Spanish Screenings to wring more sales out of the titles they did have, rather than bringing new titles onto a clogged market.

Directors’ Fortnight premiere Clara Sola has many aspects in common with a coming-of-age sexual awakening story — and yet the heroine of Nathalie Álvarez Mesén’s drama is 40 years old. A sheltered woman living in remote Costa Rica in the shadow of her religious mother, Clara (Wendy Chinchilla) appears to have learning difficulties that are never discussed or named. Clara is just Clara — her family and small group of neighbors accept her differences. But they may be also underestimating her, as well as exploiting her otherworldly quality when she is paraded as a healer in front of visiting tourists. Does Clara have genuine gifts? First-time feature helmer Mesén leaves this and more open to debate in an atmospheric film that blends magical realism with psycho-sexual drama.
Childlike Clara begins to feel sexual stirrings when she spends time with Santiago (Daniel Castañeda Rincón), the boyfriend of her teenage niece, Maria. He is...

Paris-based sales agent Luxbox has dropped a trailer for Swedish-Costa Rican debut feature “Clara Sola” from Nathalie Álvarez Mesén, screening at this year’s Directors’ Fortnight.
Set in a remote Costa Rican village, the magical realist story turns on middle-aged Clara, played by debut actor and award-winning dancer Wendy Chinchilla. In the community, Clara is well-respected as a spiritual healer who brings hope to the rural population. Having been dominated for most of her life by an overbearing mother, she experiences a delayed sexual awakening after meeting her niece’s new boyfriend.
With this new dimension of her personality exposed, Clara explores uncharted territories and crosses physical and mystical boundaries once seemingly unpassable. Through her journey of empowerment and self-discovery, she is able to break the co-dependent bond between herself and the community and start to heal.
In the trailer we are given a brief look at the ceremonies and...

Paris-based Luxbox has scored the worldwide sales rights to Swedish-Costa Rican debut feature “Clara Sola” by Nathalie Álvarez Mesén.
The magical realist tale set in a remote Costa Rican village follows a woman, known for her healing powers, who seeks to break away from the stifling social and religious conventions of her community.
“Clara Sola” has nearly completed its post and will be primed for key festivals. The titular role of Clara is played by award-winning Costa Rican dancer Wendy Chinchilla who makes her film debut.
“Álvarez Mesén’s debut offers an ambitious role to an exceptional actress. Despite her differences, Clara imposes the will of a strong character, in opposition with the conventions and the expectations of her family. These chopped gestures and her impulse turn into a ballet, celebrating a true driving force of life,” said Luxbox co-CEOs Fiorella Moretti and Hédi Zardi.

"I've always had the feeling that the universe can still surprise us." Screen Media has debuted an official trailer for the indie drama Clara, which premiered at the Toronto and Sitges Film Festivals last year. This indie relationship drama is about a hard-headed astronomy named Dr. Isaac Bruno, played by Patrick J. Adams, who is searching for life out in the universe. One day he meets an impressive artist named Clara, and their connection changes him forever, leading them both on a profound discovery within the cosmos. Troian Bellisario co-stars as Clara, along with Will Bowes, Jennifer Dale, Ennis Esmer, Gabrielle Graham, and Kristen Hager. This film reminds me quite a bit of I Origins, but with an eye on the cosmos above all else. It's a smart, lovely, fascinating film that I would describe as an indie gem worth discovering. Here's the first official Us trailer (+ poster) for Akash Sherman's Clara,...

Sony Classics bought the North American rights to the film during the Cannes Film Festival in May. The film, which will play in Tiff’s special presentations section, is a thematic cousin to Arcand’s Oscar-nominated “The Decline of the American Empire” and the Oscar-winning “The Barbarian Invasions” (2003).
Avrich returns to Tiff’s docu section with “Prosecuting Evil: The Extraordinary World of Ben Ferencz,” a portrait of the United States’ chief prosecutor during the Nuremberg trial. Stewart’s final film, “Sharkwater Extinction” will...
