This story and production have few redeeming qualities. Bad behavior, wrong choices, senseless violence and an unimaginative plot. I managed to reach the end but was almost gone myself when I got there.
A bleak and depressing portrait of a teenage boy, who is physically abused by his stepfather (Sean William Scott) and who flees this suffocating homelife, accompanied by a hooker.
The good: the acting performances are solid, all around. Sean William Scott can really perform well in these serious kind of roles. The kid actor is good as well, but he isnt convincingly able to carry this movie by himself alone...
More good: solid photography and story.
The bad: this is a well made movie, I dont get the ridiculously low Imdb ratings at all. It is however not an excellent or riveting drama, because it is missing the necessary dramatic spark and punch.
Not great, certainly not terrible, probably best suited for a certain arthouse audience who can appreciate such a slowburning and bleak story.
