Director's Note - One evening, a friend who was working as an anchor for a live TV show, got back from his work disgruntled. All day he'd worked with this topper kid, who was on the floor filming, without any food and rest. Just thinking about how pitiless the media can be really bothered me. And that was the real-life inspiration behind the story of Bultir Result.
We did try to get the film financed, but unfortunately we did not meet enough people who were as invested in the idea as I was. The potential financers wanted the film to have a more commercial angle or selling points like an action scene , or a romantic angle which will give scope of romantic songs or a huge star cast regardless of the requirement of the script.
But me and my wife Ritajaya Banerjee, the producer and editor of the film, we were not ready to compromise on to embellish Bulti's Story.
So, after going through a lot of rejections for years, we decided to the film on our own, with our bare minimum resource of one camera and our in-house edit set up.
As the project was now an independent one, the 1st challenge of the film was its huge cast list. Due to lack of budget, it was quite a task to get such a huge number of good actors on board as there are almost 80 characters in the film. But somehow, the script managed to impress a lot of good actors coming from television, film & theatre background and almost all of them were ready to work for free.
The 2nd big challenge was the location. Again, low or no budget filmmaking has no luxury of putting up set and the script demanded a very real & organic look. So managing all of it on real locations was a very difficult task. However, despite these challenges, the team managed to shoot the film with almost no budget and it took over 1 & half year to complete the shoot.
After completing the shoot and the first cut, the film got stuck in post production beacause all the funds were exhausted and there was no money left to do dubbing, vfx, colour correction, and sound mix master. That's when we decided to take help from all the film lovers all around the world who are willing to support independent filmmaking.
We came across successful crowdfunding campaigns by wishberry and decides to launch on for Bultir Result in the same. The film needed 8 lakhs to get completed it raised 8.57 lakhs creating history as it became the first ever Independent Bengali feature fiction to be crowdfunded by such a big amount.
The film was hugely acclaimed in film festivals in india and also globally. After being screened in more than 30 film festivals all across the globe in various countries like USA, Russia, UK, Japan, Bangladesh, Chile, Israel and India and winning more than 10 awards, the film has now streaming on Filmeraa app and is due for releasing in various other platforms soon as being distributed by Filmeraa.
