Hmmm...what to think? Made for TV is all I can say! I didn't want to give this cartoon 5 stars because I had some enjoyment out of it. But it was a mediocre Halloween cartoon. The animation is phenomenal and some of the dancing is pretty darn good considering it mimics Michael Jackson's dances and what he was known for. I did enjoy that part. And of course the music was nicely incorporated with a decent mix of MJ songs with one of Rockwell's songs called 'Somebody's Watching Me'. However, I don't remember seeing the moon walk done on this cartoon, but their legs were so skinny and I could have missed it. Everyone knows the moon walk, right? That was a certain memory of Michael Jackson in my opinion and for some reason, I either missed it or it wasn't all that pronounced. They did do a lot of spinning though....and Michael Jackson in a cartoon made his debut appearance. Neat, MJ!! Dancing in his spirit. Well, for what it's worth, it wasn't all that bad. The story line was a bit corny and halloween-ish, but I gave it some credit because it's all with the spirit of Halloween and what can you expect but a piece of fantasy. I truly got into the 'dog's' character though and thought that was a cool cartoon dog.
If this was a tribute to Michael Jackson, then it failed. Sure it had his music and it had him in it, but the writing was terrible and the integration of the music was forced. It didn't seem to have much of a moral to the story other than to dance. This is an entertaining movie for kids from about 4 to 6 possibly, any older and they might catch on that this show was pointless and sad. So much for honoring the King of Pop.

I don't think Michael Jackson would've approved this. Actually, I'm pretty sure MJ would've been offended by it.
Cheap animation, an extremely generic story with shoe-in characters and a terrible use of Michael Jackson music and references end up presenting one of the worst animated TV specials of all time. Stay away from it.

I am a Huge MJ fan and this upset me so much I almost cried and that's sad because I am 36 years old and wanted to cry like a baby. The movie didn't feature enough o his music and plus the main Halloween song that Michael was known for was not even featured. Also I like Jim Parsons but his voice actually had no business voicing the part that it did. Overall I was very disappointed this film did MJ no justice but I only gave it 2 stars because my son liked it.

I love Michael Jackson and I love Halloween, but this was... 😖😖
I know some bad Halloween movies can have enough fun campiness to be watchable, but this wasn't.

Instead of listening to the fans they really want were like yeah let's make some bizarre Halloween movie with a lame plot and bunch of Michael Jackson references and music throughout. I honestly don't know what happened in this movie... I don't understand.

I watched the show and was impressed with how the music was integrated into the video. It was clear the plot was about conformity and how doing what you believe is alright in order to change things. The animation was very good. The animated dancing pumpkin's performance of MJ's dangerous song was excellent. Some of the scenes reminded me of the plot in Captain EO. The animated Michael performing Thriller was super. At the end, the message from Michael was Believe In Yourself.

Very low quality. MJ would have never approved this production. Muted colors, bad animation. The cast roster is the best thing about it.

I'm giving 10 stars not only because I know MJ himself would absolutely adore this film but because it has a lot of unfair low stars from people who expected to see something more grown-up and less Disney-ish, I think. I worked with MJ's inner circle in the 90s and I know Halloween was his favorite holiday and that he watched a lot of cartoons in general. He would have loved the messages in this film, which totally reflected his values. MJ fans will notice the film pretty much has all his famous moves, many of his album covers or themes, and utilizes many characterizations from Ghost and Thriller. Not surprisingly, one of the executive producers is John Branca who is not only an attorney managing the Jackson's estate but who worked with Michael for many years. Branca has stated Michael always wanted to do just such a production but it was not realized before he passed. This special was created and produced by Optimum Productions, owned by Jackson's estate. It's a close as you'll get to something actually sanctioned by Michael himself.
So much fun, and it was easy to see that the cast had a lot of fun making it! A definite must see!

I was excited by the previews of this show, and for the most part it lived up to my expectations, with lots of MJ music, and a story line with a bit of a moral to it. The MJ references were cute, and while I get tired of seeing Michael depicted in his Thriller era guise, there were lots of other references to his later, more mature and (to me) exciting eras. This is a fun show for the kids, and entertaining for fans, so long as they are not expecting something like Thriller of Ghosts in animated form.
