The title, the characters -people who have nothing to do by contemplate their navel- everything will remind you of Eric Rohmer .I hate that kind of exponential feel good cinema but at least the first segment displays charm .
1) "L 'Amie Du Dimanche : more than Rohmer , the short recalls an old German silent film by Robert Siodmak (and collaborators) "Menschen am Sonntag " (1929) Two girls ,the first is fearless, self-assured , extrovert, her friend ,on the contrary ,is shy, introverted and afraid of the unknown .After experimenting water-skying , the instructor suggests he take them to a secret beautiful island ,but only the boldest agrees. But is she that much bold?Meanwhile , her coy friend meets a boy who wields the foil .... When they come home at night ,in an urban landscape ,they probably dream of the next Sunday afternoon ...nice cinematography , some humor, spontaneous acting.
2")Hamme et la fête nationale ": A Norwegian girl spends Bastille day in Paris. An "Auberge Espagnole" in miniature, it begins with a coarse prolog and ends with actual events which come at the most awkward moment .The connection between those rich privileged kids and the tragedy which struck France in Nice on Bastille Day escapes me,I fear ....Or perhaps it makes us think that their own problems are so futile ...
