The Walt Disney Studios continued the effective marketing campaign for the new live-action family adventure Lilo & Stitch during the Super Bowl. You can now watch the Big Game spot and the previous two teasers online.

The marketing takes a page from how the original animated film was promoted. For that campaign, Stitch invaded other Disney properties such as The Little Mermaid (1989), Beauty and the Beast (1991), Aladdin (1992) and The Lion King (1994). This time he’s running loose at the Super Bowl, having some more fun with The Lion King and more.

A live-action reimagining of Disney’s 2002 animated classic, Lilo & Stitch is the wildly funny and touching story of a lonely Hawaiian girl and the fugitive alien who helps to mend her broken family.

As Lilo & Stitch is the latest Disney film to get a live-action adaptation, its worth revisiting all the franchises movies and TV shows from over the years. Lilo & Stitchs live-action remake is only possible because of the success and popularity of the original movie from 2002, which establishes the two titular characters as absolute Disney staples. Since its release, the Lilo & Stitch universe has expanded into multiple spin-off TV shows, animated shorts, feature-length films, and video games.

The first look at the live-action Lilo & Stitch is making audiences nostalgic. Lilos incredible friendship with alien experiment Stitch is heartwarming and teaches children that appearances arent always what they seem. Stitchs wacky escapades are still keeping kids and adults alike entertained, but some of his adventures are better than others.

Chris Sanders' and Dean De Blois' 2002 animated film "Lilo & Stitch" was released by Disney and was part of what might be considered a "low" period in the studio's history. Disney had a series of bangers in the 1990s, a period often referred to as the Disney Renaissance. That period came to an end in 2000 with the release of "Dinosaur," however, a technology experiment featuring life-like dinosaurs realized in CGI. That was followed by multiple expensive bombs, one right after the other, and almost all the films (from "Fantasia 2000" in 2000 through to "Bolt" in 2008) were costly misfires.

Only two from the period stand out. Mark Dindal's slapstick comedy "The Emperor's New Groove" and "Lilo & Stitch." The latter is deeply beloved by the children who saw it in 2002, and appreciate both its warmth and its weirdo edge.
