The writing of this episode required significant exposition to explain the absence of several beloved characters from the series, including Detective Lynn Ligett-Smith; Roe's boyfriend Martin Bartell; and erstwhile juvenile delinquent-turned bird dog Perry Dell - all of this on the heels of John Queensland being written out of the series in Last Scene Alive (2018). Further altering the tone of this episode is the unexplained substitution of an unfamiliar actor playing newspaper editor Macon Turner.

Goofs
The murder weapon is pinking shears, not serrated scissors. no seamstress worth her stitch would ever refer to them as scissors. and no coroner, unless themself a subject of a premature postmortem. would ever confuse the wound made by pinking shears with that from a serrated steak knife.

Written out, and re-casted. A case of new faces.

This entry felt so weird with the beloved character of John being written off the show, Jason and Macon being recasted and the film pretending that it didn't happen, and Martin being explained off there was just so many changes that the tone overall felt off. It's not really a negative thing, it just felt very different.

Story wise I thought it was thin, you wouldn't need to think hard who the killer is since they can be already figured out from the start. Despite the multiple obvious strays they try and throw your way it was just pretty obvious who had the stronger motive specially if you were paying attention to the body language of the characters which I assume are very much intentional.
