"Only Trumpets" was a quite unusual film yet very good from the get-go, in terms of queer cinema. It deals with questionings and thoughts about sexuality and love life,
which sometimes never go hand in hand and the desperatly search many of us do for both things. Our main character goes through life with many sexual encounters with men but
it never fully satisfies him, he's always sad during and afterwards. Until a special being comes his way on a party night and...You gotta see it.
There isn't almost any dialogue here except the inner thoughts coming from our hero and it says things as if firing a machine gun with one reflective thought after another,
and we keep following his adventures in many nights out, even though are countless of short scenes there's some fine sexiness to them all. I like seeing those characters, who are
quite unusual in the way they express themselves and how they look - not your usual status quo types in terms of guys. And I could really connect guy in so many levels, the sadness
of going through trying and failing with relations, and how difficult it is to connect with another human being. Yet we don't give up. In time, we reach some enlightment and make a hard decision as to what we want.
Maybe it was a somewhat distractive feeling of mine when watching it or maybe because it could go longer, so it's a positive review but not a perfect one. Still a thumbs
up. 8/10
P. S.: why Danny Wylde's cameo was so bloody short and almost irrelevant? Anyway, that's how I got here in any case.
