Resurrection of period films about the Maratha empire.
Remarkable attempt
Just seen 'Farzand'. Historical movies are rare in Marathi, especially on Great Maratha Warrior Shivaji Raje Bhosale. Hence I was eager to see this movie. The movie is good and must watchable to every Marathi person. But it has some weak points too. Though it starts with well action scene the movie trails then further for a long portion, taking us boring zone. Many scenes filming very filmsy and without logics. Battle sequels are looking fake at many stages and not up to the desired mark. Leading this make story not impressive as it is a brave story of Shivaiji Maharaj. Rajmata Jijamata looks like an average old lady rather that Royal old lady (see rajmata in bahubali). These are few weak points.
However, it is a appraisable attempt to make such movie in Marathi Film Industry. I salute to makers. Though it is average in technical department we must keep in mind that this is a Marathi movie. Otherwise they are expert in making love story movies, they should make hard work on such historic movie then one day they will be able to create a Bahubali !
Rest is OK. Must be seen by every Marathi man with family. Govt. Of Maharashtra also should have made this movie tax free.

A well-made Historical film in Maharashtra
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has always been a great source of inspiration for all of us, Maharashtrians and director, Digpal Lanjekar has brought a great gem to the Marathi film industry in the form of this film.
The Beauty of Lanjekar's creation is comparable only to the legendary Bhalji Pendharkar and Nitin Chandrakant Desai. Let's get on with the casting first,
(1) Chinmay Mandelkar makes for an excellent role as Raje. Even though he does lack some characterstics, He makes for a very accurate and amazing potrayal.
(2) Mrinal Kulkarni, is only seen in a few glimpses but all of them are really good to be honest.
(3) Ankit Mohan, even though not from Maharashtrian, really gives it his all in this film.
Sameer Dharmadhikari and Ajay Purkar also give their best in this film to make it so interesting. The songs and BGM is absolutely marvelous.

Jai Bhawani Jai Shivaji
I will give this movie 10/10 star. No this not the best movie but yet I'm giving it a full rating & here is why.....This movie has very good story line. I've read history of Chatrpati Shivaji Maharaj & yet I did't knew this history of Kondaji Farzand. I'm sure many of u who haven't watched this movie still don't. Movie have very nice songs. Acting, cinematography & execution in this movie isn't that great but that won't bother me much as this is not a high budget bollywood movie. This is Matathi movie & marathi movies don't have that high budget to produce big movies.
So yes I will recommend every indian to watch this movie just to know this beautiful history of this Maratha warrior.

A chapter in Maratha history
Film is just a chapter in Maratha history and tribute to Kondaji Farzand's bravery at winning Panhala fort back.
Just remove the scenes made too filmy and the film is 9/10.

A PLEASING BRAVERY TALE WITH GRAND CANVAS BUT AVERAGE EXECUTION
FARZAND REVIEW :
When i look at our Marathi History i feel like there are countless stories in there to make countless films but still our makers go for remakes and fresh crap scripts. We make films on society or some incidents but when it comes to making a film on a Personality then Chatrapati Shivaji is the Biggest Subject, the more you make the bigger you make, the less it looks. Farzand is based on One Chapter among the Countless Glorious tales of King Shivaji, of Panhala Fort. Entire script is based on how the journey of conquering Panhala begun and how it ended which was still Enough to make one solid film but somewhere that ordinary vision of director and compromised production value has spoiled the potential Extraordinary product. This script and Rajamouli's vision and i see Farzand as Historical Milestone in Marathi Cinema. Sadly there is only One Rajamouli available and i was expecting too much. Story is predictable as we have already read so many History books but still we want to see those glorious moments on screen, on big canvas so that we can relive those moments and keep them safe in our hardcore memories, and this has not happened here. Strong characterisation of all actors is commendable, every actor looks and literally lives whichever character they have got to portray. Shivaji, Jijau, Kondaji, Naik, Kesar, Tanaji and so many characters have been made look like alive on screen by the actors. Art work of Big sets by Nitin Desai is eye pleasing. Cinematography for the same is Good, all the natural stuff is captured very well by Cameraman. Amitraj's Music is like up and down, half the songs are catchy, half are dead. Though, Lyrics are meaningful. As it is a Historic film some important parts like Action Direction, Make Up, Clothes needs to taken care sensitively and all have been taken care perfectly. Dialogues are Clap Worthy, you get Goosebumps. If i have to blame one person as a failure then it has to be the Director, with this script and big canvas he could have made Bahubali of Marathi Cinema, but failed miserably. Still he deserves appreciation for taking a Huge task, taking a big challenge of living up to expectations of Proudful incident of Panhala Fort, he might have failed because of so much pressure of this Grandure task. I feel pressure even while reviewing film based on Shivaji, so big name it is, then Making a film must be so much of pressure thing. I gotto mention some minuses here, first- the unnecessary filmy and typical execution of scenes, second- loud and irritating Background Music for almost every important scene, third- an ordinary vision for an extraordinary tale, four- the scenes which could have been done so easily and simply are turned difficult, intentionally filmy. Remove these junks and Farzand would have been a much better film. As a Whole Farzand Glorifies the Glorious Tale of Mission Panhala, pleases the Marathi Attitude but does not end as a Memorable film. As a film it may be an Average one but as a tale this one is a must see for Marathas, we gotto admire a great attempt. All proud marathas, Take your childrens along and let them see & acknowledge our Bravery Tale. Rating 2.5/5*

Very bad action acting
Bollywood is best for drama and motivational movie, but man they don't know how to make a proper action movie, for once i wish to watch Bollywood action movie that has good acting.
Every fight, if you look at the background you can see actors just weaving the sword in the air, the main character get too many stabs and in later seen there is ZERO blood on him, they don't even know how to make the sword look real in action combat, they still use this method that the sword goes under the arm, and it's so visible that you will focus on that in every combat.
maybe this movie got high rating because of historical events or something but the action is so bad that i noticed myself forgetting about the story and focusing on how bad the production or combats are, basically there is no one move made by any character that makes you feel its real.
my problem with this is it's 2019 and they have been on the same place in movie production for decades.
